White Sox vs. Cubs full game highlights from 5/16/25
I got some goosebumps already as we get ready to roll Chicago White Sox taking on the Chicago Cubs game one of this
Crosstown series here in Wrigley and the fans got out here early excited for this one.
The Cubs take the field. There's the hop from Kane Horton.
The right hander making officially his first major league start.
His big league debut Saturday against the Mets.
His four innings really just a one bad pitch into that groove path of Brett Beatty.
But overall five strikeouts, no walks, he was excellent.
Slaps this one to left center field.
Coming in is Suzuki and it'll drop in front.
So, my drop with a single to get this Crosstown series started.
Here goes the runner. Pitches a strike, throw to second, tag out in second.
Will Venable saying, please hold.
Oh, they're going to look at it.
Chris Conroy is the home plate umpire. He is the crew chief.
He was calling everybody together before Sox decided to challenge him.
So, he's got something else on his mind that he wants to talk to his boys about.
After crew consultation, obstruction occurred at second base.
The runner is awarded second base.
This play is not reviewable.
Conversation runs.
His foot is in the front corner of the base as he's receiving the ball.
You've got to give him a lane, but I don't have a problem with a swing and a miss.
It's scored, by the way, and caught stealing in an E4.
There's that sweeper.
Miguel Vargas, 25 years old, has turned himself into one of the best hitters on the team right now.
Lifted high in the air, back goes to left.
Miguel Vargas gets the Sox on the board.
Yeah, that's how we get it started.
A two-run shot here in this first inning.
Sox with a 2-0 lead.
Well, we told you the power's coming.
There's an example of it.
Vaughn, another guy struggling, hitting .189.
Line drive.
Caught it.
Gorgeous play.
The Gold Glover laying out and steals a hit from Andrew Vaughn.
Shane Smith going to the mound for his ninth start.
He's been brilliant.
He already just over two.
Four-seam fastball he uses a lot.
Backed up by a very good change.
The slider comes third.
How many curves?
How many sinkers?
Swing, a line drive, and Robert will make the catch in right center.
Nice jump and route to make that look routine.
That's a dangerous thing.
When you start giving up extra outs, blocks and errors are deadly on a day like this.
Hopefully Horton can pitch his way out of this.
To the right side.
Cornered a second for one.
Are they going to say interference?
They are, and both guys are out.
Absolutely.
They call the double play by the runner hitting Dansby, going by
and not sliding directly into the bat.
His slide took him past the bat.
Bush at first.
Nobody out.
Two and two.
Towards left center field.
Sink in with a touchdown and bang up against the wall.
Will stop.
Into the Ivy.
Well, J.D., this would be a nice time for the first big league hit for Moises by Asteros.
There's the fan.
They're here, ready to celebrate.
Here's a big jump toward first.
Heading home and scoring!
Here's Michael Bush.
Fielder's choice, RBI.
So the first RBI for Moises by Asteros.
Yeah, see families, man, they're fired up about anything.
First loud foul, they're going to be jumping up and down.
This is the swing.
Ground ball.
Oh!
The spike!
Yikes.
Game of adjustments.
Boys and girls, we move on.
Runners at first and third, one away for Nico Horner.
On the ground to short.
Safe as Theis dropped the ball.
Fielder's choicing the heck out of him here in the second inning.
So, in a sense, the infield-in strategy has paid off twice in that they've gotten ground balls
or they had a chance to record an out at the plate.
First time it was a great slide.
This time, Theis had him dead to rights, didn't catch the baseball, didn't hang on.
Two down, back to the top of the order for Pete Crow Armstrong.
Three-two.
That is hammered down the line.
If it's fair, it's trouble.
That one is.
Free run, Homer, Pete Crow Armstrong, right down the line and right.
Gone by plenty.
Cubs lead five to two.
Line drive out towards right center field.
That's a bird shoot.
Towards second.
He's thinking about third.
Cubs have hit for the cycle in the inning.
And here's Seagal Suzuki.
He's the ninth man to bat in the inning.
This one drilled out towards left center field.
And in to score is Tucker.
Suzuki cruises into second.
And the Cubs have taken a 2-0 deficit and turned it into a 6-2 lead.
Cade Horton will work with the lead for the first time today.
Young right-hander.
And the next pitch, swing and a miss.
Strike three.
High fastball got him.
Theis chasing.
Two down.
That will bring up Vargas.
On a day where you can tell guys would love to get the ball in the air.
This one well hit to center field.
Crowe Armstrong looking up.
And that one is out.
Two home runs for Miguel Vargas today.
Accounting for all three runs for the Sox.
It's the Cubs' sixth.
Vargas, three.
It's clear the bench noticed something.
And Tyler Gilbert is not going to leave this ballgame.
Brandon Iser.
He's got the NCAA up there.
And a hitter's count.
And a man on third in the infield end.
Here's a 2-0.
Foul ground right side.
And the scorer is Nico.
And Pete's looking around like, wait, what just happened?
That's what happened.
The sky happened.
The wind happened.
Wrigley happened.
Third hit of the day for PCA.
In the air.
PCA makes his way to third.
Tucker with a single.
Drive center field.
Robert coming up.
Makes the catch.
Tagging for third.
Pete Crowe Armstrong.
And he's in.
Sacrifice fly.
Say it, Suzuki.
It's a three.
Good feeling for a hitter when PCA's down there at third base.
You don't have to hit it very deep to get that sack fly.
Hit hard.
Vargas gets to his feet.
What a play as he flashes the leather at third.
That's about as good as you'll see.
And now with two outs, you get two men on.
Second and third peak for Armstrong at the plate.
He has had a very nice day with three hits.
Four RBIs in the game.
In the air.
Center field.
That'll fall for a hit.
And PCA has knocked in two more.
It's a four-hit day for Pete Crowe Armstrong.
And it all comes here at Wrigley.
Here comes the 1-0 to Kelly.
He pops it up.
Shallow right center.
Not routine.
Going out.
Rojas.
And that's in there.
The throw to second is wide.
Everybody is safe.
That's about the third or fourth one today that you knew it would be a hassle.
And nobody got a glove on it.
Here we go again.
Right field.
Palacios.
They're able to pull it down.
Say it will tag and score.
Bush will tag and move up to 90 feet.
It's a sacrifice fly.
11-3 comes on top.
We just need to knock for Moises here to check a lot of boxes here this afternoon.
The 2-2.
Wide drive.
Base hit.
Right center field.
Moises Ballesteros first major league knock.
And it produces a run.
That's what I'm talking about right there.
Yeah, Mom.
That is awesome.
A liner to right center.
I love it.
3-2.
Chopped too short.
There's Moises.
And safe at first.
Nico down the line.
And the run comes in to score.
One away in ninth inning.
And the batter is Baldwin.
Comes for a six spot up in the second inning.
To the right side.
They get one there.
To first.
Two.
And that's the ball game.
