Good morning, guys. Welcome back to my
garden diaries. My name's Emma. These
are my home gardening diaries. I put
these up every Sunday on my YouTube
channel at 9:00 a.m. And for the rest of
the week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday,
I vlog all about my a lotment plot in
South London. So, if that sounds like
your jam, please subscribe to my
channel. Follow me along. Hope you're
enjoying these garden videos. I think a
lot of you are, which is why I'm
carrying on doing them. I'm absolutely
loving it. I love just being able to
pick the camera up whenever sort of
throughout the week and then just vlog
bits and bobs. We're about to head out
to the garden center. I just wanted to
show you super quickly the state of our
front room. This is one of the reasons
why I'm so happy that I've worked so
hard on my garden this year and that the
weather's been nice as well because I've
got an additional place to sit at the
moment. Our front room, we're getting it
all sort of redone, stripped back to the
wall, replastered, all the rest of it,
and it's unusable at the moment. I'm
very grateful that we're actually
getting all this done because it really
needed it. It's an old Victorian house,
so it is all like lam plaster, I think
is the word for it, where we've got like
horse hair in the plaster. So, it's all
been taken back to brick. We're getting
it all redone. Got all my paint. Got all
my paint ideas on the wall over there.
We've got a new wall being built over
here. Just a bit of a mess at the
moment. And we just don't have anywhere
nice to sit. So, that's why I'm really
glad we've got the garden. Right, we are
off to the garden center. I don't want
you to think that all these vlogs will
start with a trip to the garden center,
but I need to pick up some ericacious
soil and some bedding plants. So, that's
what we're going to do. Right, let's
head to the garden
center.
Right, here we go. Ericacacia soil. This
is what we need for the
hydranger apparently. So, I'm going to
dig it in around my hydranger. It's from
Westland. Right. I'm looking for bedding
plants now. Just plants that are plants
that are quite small kind of like
bedding plants. These little garden
cocktails. And these are $11.99 which is
quite good quite good price. I think
these are
probably are these for hanging baskets?
These I normally see these little are
these patunias. They're normally in
hanging baskets, aren't they? So maybe
not them. And I'm not a big fan of
beonas, but if you are lots of bagonas
here. Geraniums are always quite a good
choice. I think they are perennial. Are
they perennial? Am I wrong with that?
That doesn't look salmon. It says it's a
salmon color. This looks more salmon to
me. Apple blossom. That's quite pretty.
Or maybe we'll just do the classic pink.
All right, let's get one of these. Some
lovely little
geraniums. These are nice colors. These
tuners, aren't they? Isn't that
gorgeous? And these
ones names are very sweet as well,
aren't they? Sweet junior starfish.
Gorgeous. And then this one is the queen
of
hearts. That is very, very sweet.
This plant's called
Dracula. I wonder
why. This is what we're looking for.
Summer bedding
plants. Lots and lots to choose from. I
don't actually know what these are, but
they do look beautiful. Right, let's get
some of these
Right, that was a shorter trip, which is
a good thing because it means it was
more concise and I did not buy too much.
So, we got some bedding plants, got some
aricacious soil, and I will show you
more when we get back. Um, but that was
quite successful and it's not too busy
today, which was lovely. Right, back
home.
Right, like I said, I'm back from the
garden center. I'm going to show you the
plants that I picked up. So, I was
really looking for something to go in my
borders um as sort of bedding plants.
And a lot of you did suggest deraniums,
which are very hardy. Um are they hardy?
Yeah, I think they are. I think they're
perennial. I think they're quite hardy.
A lot of you suggested deraniums, um
which make a really good border plant. I
think they're quite hardy as well and
they have lovely flowers. I went with
the pink one. So, that should be nice.
They are very small at the moment, but
I'm hoping they'll grow a bit bigger
over the years. I'm, like I said, I'm
happy for things to sort of take their
time in my garden to sort of grow and
get bigger over the years. And aren't
the leaves lovely? Look at the two
different colors. Isn't that beautiful?
Picked up some of these because they
were on offer. I've never seen these
before. I'm not going to lie. They are I
don't even know how to pronounce that.
Osteo Osteopro
Pyramum. Not even going to try. the
blue-eyed beauty and we've got a double
steel blue and then I picked up this one
which is called sunshine beauty. So just
the three colors that they had which I
think would be quite nice in containers
at the back. So these are going to go
into pots. Couldn't resist picking up a
couple of cosmos. This is the what's
this one? This is called carmine and
it's a really deep pink which is
beautiful. And then this one is the more
sort of traditional looking cosmos and
it is called pink. Oh, it's just called
pink. Cosmos pink. How lovely. They are
pricey.
They're7 $7.99 a pot and I know that I
am growing them from a seed at the a
lotment plot, but you know what? I don't
have them at home and they're already
really well established plants. I think
they're going to look lovely in the
borders. And I also picked up a little
chive. I've been trying to grow this
from seed for ages and it keeps failing
on me. So, I picked it up as a pot. I
know, I know. I really should try again
from a seed, but it does keep dying. And
I really want this in a pot and I wanted
to flower because I think the flowers
are beautiful and edible as well. Also,
a lot of you said I need ericacious soil
for my hydrangeanger. So, I did pick up
a little bag of ericacious soil, but I
looked it up on Google when I got back
and apparently it just affects the color
of the hydrangeanger flower. So, if you
want the flowers to go to blue, use
ericacious soil. And if you want them to
stay pink, don't. I'm sort of quite
happy for them to stay pink if I'm
honest. But what I actually do have is a
blueberry plant in a pot which has not
had ericacious soil ever. So I might top
it up with that and see how that does
this year. But that's what I got from
the garden center. Not too much. I
didn't go too
crazy.
Okay. Right. I'm going to put some
geraniums along the front here.
Um, all the plants that I've got in this
uh this little border here. So, even the
hydranger and whatever this is behind, I
can't remember what it is, but these all
get really big. So, eventually the the
deraniums will need to be moved, but not
this year. Not today. So, they're going
to go in here now.
I think these are probably going to get
a lot bigger than what they are right
now, which is excellent. That's exactly
what I want. Kind of want all the plants
in my garden to grow away like crazy.
And you know, I'd like my gardening
problem to be that my plants are too big
and I've got to move them. That would be
a great problem to have. That's an
excellent problem.
Right. I actually think that this bed
here is a little bit empty. I've got the
wisteria at the back and I've got some
lavender at the front, but as soon as
all these forget me knots die back, I
think it's going to look quite empty.
So, I'm thinking cosmos. It'll add a
nice little pop of color just in there.
Yeah, it will. Look at that.
I think this is three plants planted
into one pot. Should I divide them? All
right, I am going to attempt to divide
these cuz I think they will do a bit
better if they're their own plants. I
think otherwise they'll become crowded
and stuff. Yeah, they're coming away
quite easily. So that's one plant then.
That's one cosmos. So I've got three
cosmos plants for $7.99. That's not bad,
is it? Yeah, it is. It's three plants.
Great.
Okay. And then we'll also put in the
three remaining geraniums into here as
well. Little bit of continuity in the
garden, you know.
Young
driver an old
Right. And again, this cosmos also seems
to be three plants. So, should I just
break this one up as well? I think I
will. I think I
will. So, then I can have three of them
down this border, which look really
nice. So, I have like one
here, one up near this way. Or is that
too close to the dia? Maybe up over
there. And then this one nearer to the
front. Cool. Okay. Don't know if I've
broken them up correctly or what, but I
don't see why they wouldn't grow
nicely. I don't know to be honest. I
really don't know. We can only try. But
from my gardening limited gardening
knowledge, it does look like three
plants in one pot. So, you know what?
Maybe that's why it just looked so big
and bushy and vibrant. It made me buy
it.
Maybe I sort of subconsciously knew I
was getting a really good bargain.
Bargain of the century. You know what I
will do? I will put some more compost in
here. Actually, let's grab some. I'll do
everything I can to keep them alive, I
think. So, this is just some compost
going into the bottom of the hole.
Sugared the roots. A nice little head
start
hopefully. I don't quite know the
science behind it. You don't always need
to. Right in he goes.
It looks like a very healthy little
cosmos plant. I wonder if they pinched
it out.
Woohoo! Woohoo!
Why are you so unbothered? Look what
your mother did. You got two in red.
It's amazing.
Right, guys. It's a beautiful day today.
So, I'm going to plant those other
flowers that I got into some of the
pots. Now, some of my pots are kind of
finished. They've had bulbs in them,
basically, and the bulbs are finished.
So, I'm going to take the bulbs out, put
them somewhere else so I can plant them
out next year. and then replant them.
All these lovely flowers and things that
I've got. So, this one here had some
blue bells in it, I think, something
like that that sort of going to seed
now. So, I could take all of that out.
This one here has some daffodils that
unfortunately didn't flower at all. So,
I'm not quite sure what's going on with
that. And then just behind here, I have
another little pot here that I can uh
sort of take the things out. So, let's
do that.
And that way all the foliage can die
back. And um hopefully I can replant
them next
year. God
Heat. Heat.
These are my Jackby little pumpkins in
here. I brought them all outside to the
outside greenhouse and they're all doing
very, very well. Loving all the
sunshine. I think I might get these out
in a couple of weeks time at the aotment
plot. I might just risk it because the
weather is so good and we are not having
the slug problem we had last year. But
yeah, some of them are getting really
big, really, really good. So, they're
doing really well. Also got lots of
other plants in here. Let me show you
all the sweet corn that we putotted on
in the last video uh last Sunday. It's
all doing really well. Getting nice and
big. The brassacas I want to take out of
these trays and pot them on and grow
them on a bit bigger because they're not
going out yet. And the tomatoes are
desperate to get out. I think I'm going
to plant a couple at home. And in fact,
we could do that now because some of
them are just honestly really needing to
come out. The corette is going to go at
home as well. And that is going to go
Where are you going to go? Oh, in my
vegetable planter at the front. And then
the lettucees will come back to life and
they're doing amazing. So these will
need to go to the a lotment plot
soon. Right. So just putting the
tomatoes into these big plastic pots
which I think will be fine for them.
I always end up with a bit of an
overspill of the veg from the a lotment
plot just because I grow so much and I
grow it in such big
quantities. But you can never have too
many
tomatoes. Right. What I'm going to do is
this.
Yes. Very good.
Right. And then I think I'm going to
stick this corette into here. The idea
is to have it around the sweet corn. And
I know the sweet corn looks really small
at the moment, but the corette can kind
of grow in between it. That's sort of
the idea on a smaller scale. And anyway,
I've got nowhere else to put it in. So,
we're going to have to go for it.
Right, apologies for this guys. I've had
to move to my phone for the end of this
vlog because my vlogging camera has
finally completely died on me. To be
fair, I do put them through quite a lot.
Um, I always like put them in the mud
and I drop them and Einstein lands on
them and and they hit rocks and stuff.
So, it did really well to hold on as
long as it did. But, it is finally dead.
So, I've just had to order a new one.
What I'm going to do today, it's Friday
morning. It's beautiful sunshine. It's
honestly, it's just amazing today. It's
going to be highs of 25, which is so
different than what it's been very
recently. I'm going to take advantage of
it. I'm going to clear some of my
borders from the forget me knots. The
forget me knots have kind of come to the
end of their life. they're not looking
as good anymore. So, I'm going to clear
the borders and spruce it up a little
bit. And that's what we're doing today.
You see what I mean by they've just sort
of um had enough. All the flowers are
finishing now and they look a little bit
messy. In fact, I know they will
selfseed and they always do. So, it
doesn't matter when I take them out. I
will always get forget me knots because
they just come back every year. So, I'm
going to take them all out now.
No. Oh no. I shouldn't have done that.
Oh, that was really
annoying. Oh, sorry, Dia.
Right. It does look a little bit bare
now. I will admit that. But it is
looking neater and they can't stay in
forever. Apple tree looks a lot better,
doesn't it? And also because I've got
things like the cosmos in now and some
sunflowers, the forget me knots are in
danger of becoming slug and snail hotels
because they can hide in them easily.
And now that I've cleared it, I feel a
bit better about it. And I do think
there's some room for some more plants
along here, which is never a bad thing.
Let's be honest. We like lots of plants.
I did decapitate a bit the dia, but you
know what? I think it will recover. Um,
so yeah, it's looking good. Sorry, mate.
That was my bad. Hopefully he'll just
sort of grow back now.
Bet you're wondering what this is for.
This is going to be a run for my rabbit.
I've got a house rabbit called Pippen.
We usually put him out in a smaller run,
but it's too small for him and I wanted
something a bit bigger and this was
perfect online. It's actually made for a
dog. It's like a dog pen or something
like a play pen for a dog. Um, but
perfect for a rabbit as well.
There he is. Look, I've got a sheet over
it. So, he's got some shade. I have to
bring the water out in a minute cuz it
is getting very hot. He's loving it in
there.
Right, that's it for me today. I hope
you've enjoyed watching. I'll see you
again at the aotment plot on Monday and
I'll see you back in my home garden next
Sunday. Thanks for watching, guys. Bye.
Pippy, say bye.
