And each time I said someone else that I wanted to stay for,
I just kept going out and out and thinking, I'm still dying. I'm still dying.
And an interesting thing was that I felt like myself. So it's hard to describe, but my
insight from that experience was that we all have this unique self. We all feel different.
So the way you feel watching this video is different to how I would feel watching this
video. And there's this sort of fingerprint of your soul or your essence that is you.
And no one else in the world has that. I felt that. I felt my own fingerprint of who I truly was.
My name is Ash Pero, and I'm a coach. And I help people with their social media,
as well as helping people to connect with their heart and do the work that they love.
So today I'm going to talk about my near-death experience. And before I had my near-death
experience, life had lots of beauty in it, but it was very hard. So my health wasn't great.
I'd had post-traumatic stress and depression, and relationships were challenging. I was in
a relationship and we had a blended family, but the relationship wasn't working. And I wouldn't
leave the relationship, even though my intuition kept telling me it's time to finish. It's time
to move on. This isn't working for you. And I just wouldn't do it. And so life was beautiful,
but it was challenging. I was always trying to work it out. Like, how does life work? What do
I do next? How does this, why can't I get my stuff together? So about 10 years ago, I was going
surfing, and I was standing at the edge of the water. And as I was looking at the water, I heard
a voice in my head, and it said, if you go surfing today, you're going to hurt your back. And I'd been,
I didn't like my job. And I decided that, well, you know, if I hurt my back, then that meant I
didn't have to go back to my job. And so I said in my head, bring it on. And I grabbed my board,
and I started paddling out, and the surf was very big that day. And I went through the first wave,
and then as I went to duck dive through the second wave, I popped two discs in my back. So
what happened was that the discs between the vertebrae, they slipped and they were contacting
the nerves, excruciating pain, just absolutely excruciating pain. And so I managed to make it
back to shore, and somebody helped me back up to the car park, and it took a long time to get back
to the car park. And then over the next year or so, I was trying to repair my back naturally,
acupuncture, Pilates, and yoga, and things like that. But the pain was getting worse and worse,
and I couldn't do my shoes up. I was on opioids, and so I was still working a lot and trying to
take care of my family, and it just wasn't getting better. So I made the decision to go into a
hospital and have spinal fusion. And spinal fusion is where they take the discs out and put in these
little plastic discs, and they, instead of having little vertebrae like this, they all connect up as
one big bone. So that's what I have in my back now is there's three vertebrae that are all fused
together, so it's like one bit of bone. And during that operation, the surgeon tore a vein. He didn't
know that he had torn a vein. And they stitched me back up, and I went back to the ward. And during
the night, I was in a lot of pain, and I kept pressing the buzzer for the nurses and telling
them, I'm just really hurting. And they said, you're okay, just press the pain relief button
and just keep doing that. So I kept doing that. And then the next morning, around 10am, the physio
came in, and he said, it's time to get up now and start doing rehab. I sat on the edge of the bed,
and I looked down at my leg, and my leg was about twice the size of what it would normally look like.
Of course, now I know it was full of blood, because I'd lost so much
inside my body, and I'd been laying down, and the pain had pulled into my leg. And
I said to the physio, it's not like that. He said, oh, you'll be okay, just hop up.
And so I stood up, and then I became very faint, and then I collapsed on the bed.
He pressed the red emergency button, which they call it in medical terms, a code blue.
And so the alarm went off, and the medical team rushed in, and they started to put a mask on me,
the oxygen mask, and they were trying to attach the ECG monitors, and they wouldn't attach because
I was in this cold sweat. And I kept thinking, I'll be okay, I'll be okay. Then they started
talking about my blood pressure, and saying, he's not breathing, he doesn't have a pulse.
And they were saying to me, stay with us, Ash, stay with us. And at that stage, I was still
thinking, I'm okay, I'm okay. Then I heard them say his blood pressure is 52 on 36,
which in blood pressure, basically, there's no blood moving around your body when your blood
pressure is at that low. And I thought to myself, oh, I'm dying. This is dying. And I felt so sad.
I was so sad that nobody I loved was in the room with me. I just felt this immense sadness that
here I am dying, and not one person, not one person I love is with me.
And then I started to black out. And I remember just before I blacked out, I saw the physio
standing in the corner. And he was very white and pale with fear. And I thought, oh, you poor
guy, you think you've me. And then I blacked out. And my experience of blacking out was,
I became ripples. So instead of just blacking out and fainting and having no memory of anything,
I became ripples. And so it's like if you drop a pebble in a pond, and the ripples go out and
out and out, and there's lots of ripples. That was me. And the ripples were me. It was like there
was no separation between them. I was, instead of blacking out, not thinking, I was very, very aware
of what was happening. And I knew that I wanted to stay. I had a, at that stage, my daughter was
10 years old, and I didn't want to leave my daughter. I really wanted to stay. I didn't want
her to be that 10-year-old whose dad died in hospital, and she would have to go through the
rest of her life with that pain of her father dying when she was young. And I started to say I
want to stay. And each time I said someone else that I wanted to stay for, I just kept going out
and out and thinking, oh, I'm still dying. I'm still dying. And an interesting thing was that I
felt like myself. So it's hard to describe, but my insight from that experience was that we all
have this unique self. We all feel different. So the way you feel watching this video is different
to how I would feel watching this video. And there's this sort of fingerprint of your soul or
essence that is you, and no one else in the world has that. I felt that. I felt my own fingerprint of
who I truly was. And I started to say I want to stay for my partner. I want to stay for the
children. And I was still going out and out and out like the ripples. And then I felt this warmth
come over me. And I said, I want to stay for the work that I do and walk the planet from my heart.
And the moment I expressed that, I came straight back into my body.
Immense pain. And I heard the surgical team say, we've got a pulse. He's breathing. His eyes are
open. And I started moaning and screaming because the pain was so bad. I'd lost so much blood that
in my body it was pressing on my organs. And it was causing excruciating pain. But I was also so
grateful to be alive. And so from there, they rushed me down to, I'm not sure what kind of scanner it
was, because by this stage, it was very difficult to stay conscious and stay aware of what was
happening. But they were scanning me to try and find where I was losing blood, because they had
no idea where I was bleeding from. And then I ended up in ICU for four or five days. I
was on morphine. And they started putting saline solution back into my body to bring my
blood levels back up or blood pressure back up so that the oxygen could move around my body. And I
was very, very ill. And it took me eight months to get back to full-time work because
I'd lost so much blood. And there was complications that followed that event. And
I was so grateful to know what that level of suffering was like. I remember thinking,
there's people around the world who are suffering like this every day of their life. And here I am
just having this accident that's happened. And I get to know what their suffering was like. And I'd
never experienced anything like that. And I started to think, well, I went through this
near-death experience. And it was when I said I want to stay for the work that I do and walk
the planet from my heart that I came back into my body. So I wasn't living from my heart. I was
being kind and doing my best and doing work that helped other people. But that wasn't my path.
I needed to change the path that I was on. So after that, I started to think about, well,
what's it mean to live from my heart? And so that's what I've been doing for the last eight
and a half years now is doing my best and learning to live from the heart. And that's changed how I
operate in the world and the work that I do and how I spend my time because I've learned so much
about what it was that I actually wanted, what my individual fingerprint wanted. And instead of
ignoring that and ignoring the voices that like the intuition that tells me what I want in my
life and what I should do next. And I learned in that moment of being on that other side of life
that there's so much more to life than the physical life that we have.
So it was an extraordinary experience to go through. And it's not to say that life is easy.
There's still challenges and I'm a human being and I have human emotions and I have
conditioning from the past, the ways that I was brought up. And I was lucky enough to
experience myself without the conditioning. So that when I talk about that fingerprint,
it's like without the training of being brought up in this life, I experienced myself without that.
Did I see any entities in the other side? No, I didn't. My experience was blackness and that
the ripples, that was my biggest experience. I didn't have anybody come and give me advice,
but I did feel like when I was asking to stay, at the very end, I felt like I was talking to
my soul or something. And it was like, no, this is the lifetime that I really want to
live the life that I'm meant to live. And yeah, so I didn't have voices, but
I definitely listened to the voices that come into my head from intuition. I'm much better
at listening to them now, especially after the surfing accident and then after the near-death
experience. What I see the future of humanity doing is that I think we're in for a really hard
time for a while. I think that it's going to be very challenging and that it needs to be
challenging so that people can awaken to their true nature and to what's important in life. So
that we awaken to being connected to each other and being connected to our creativity and being
connected to our strength and to understand that something about humans, our nature, is that
we have to give that up first. We have to know what it's like to not have power. I had to learn
what it was like to not live from my heart to then go and commit to the difference. So something
I see with planet Earth and the environment is that humans, we're not working it out. I'm 51
years old and I remember 40 years ago learning about what we were doing to the planet and people
are still doing it. And it's maybe even worse than it was then. And my perspective is we haven't
suffered enough to make the changes to do what we need to do on the planet for our children and
for the Earth and the animals and the plants that are such a gift. But we haven't suffered enough.
So I see humans suffering a lot more, which is not what I want for humanity. But until we wake up
and do what's right for ourselves and for our planet, that suffering is going to increase.
For example, when I didn't listen to my intuition and I went surfing and I hurt my back,
we're doing the same thing with the planet. And with technology, I see that we're going to have
AI, we're going to have all these things that are making our life easier, but then there's going to
be like a vacuum. What do we do with our lives? And the remedy for that, what I see happening is
greater human connection. So those people that are good at connecting to other humans,
those people that are good with technology, they're going to thrive. Those people that
aren't good at connecting to people or an awareness of their emotions, they're going to
find it very hard because technology is going to very much change what's happening. And of course,
it's changed what's happening on planet Earth for tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of years.
And so this is that process, but there's going to be some suffering before we come out the other
side. And I know in Tibetan law, there's an idea of the Golden Age and that the Golden Age will
take 250,000 years. I used to think, gosh, we need to get it together in this lifetime.
Whereas now I have a much better understanding of how long existence is, not just life, but
existence and the things that exist in our universe and however many other universes there are.
It's been around for trillions of years. So this little snapshot of humanity,
it might take 250,000 years before we work it out, but we still exist through the whole process.
We still have consciousness. We still have awareness. We get to come back and try things
out and get better and better and better. And so, yeah, that's my experience of that. That's
my beliefs around that. I think we will definitely go through a Golden Age. It's going to happen.
And it's likely we're already in the Golden Age, but we just don't realize it.
Because we are consciousness, not the bodies. We experience the body and have a connection
to the body and the pain and the joy and the touch and the sensations of the body,
but we are not the body. And so the Golden Age is already happening. But also because
now we can have thought patterns that take us away from truly experiencing things. And we've
needed those thought patterns to survive as humans and survive as people growing up and
get through life the way that we've needed to. But at some point, it's like in life we put on
these layers to get through life. And then at some point in our life we realize, actually,
we need to change the way that we're living. And so you might find you start to take off the layers.
Ah, who am I? Why do I have this? And you start to take them off. And underneath that is yourself.
And so the Golden Age is already here. It's already here. It's just covered up. And so
it might take, as Tibetan law, it might take 250,000 years for the layers to come off and
us be truly aware of our own greatness and awareness and ability to transcend
the human experience and reconnect with our consciousness and who we truly are.
So in the short term, my desire is that everyone will be thriving. But I think that we need to
suffer more. I think that there's going to be a lot of hard things that people have to go through.
And that's so that they can learn to stand up for themselves. That's so they can value themselves
and reconnect with the love that they have for themselves.
So the mind might say, these are bad things that are happening. But I like to say that the bird's
eye picture. So the bird in the sky looking down can see so much more than the human standing on
the ground. And so the bird's eye picture is that these things are happening for us to reconnect us
to who we truly are and how powerful we are as humanity. As a group of people, we are allowing
other people to take away things that we should have access to. We are allowing people to make
us slaves. We are allowing bad things to happen as a group of people. There's people that are
operating trying to stop that. And I think in the short term, more and more people are going to
become aware, which I've seen happen in the last six years, that more and more people see how
they're being manipulated and enslaved. And I think that that's part of the process is that
there's probably still more suffering, but I hope not. I really hope we've turned it around
and we're coming back towards that golden age of humanity in a positive way rather than
going through the suffering. I think that somebody can have a spiritual practice without being aligned
with a particular religion through connecting to themselves, through listening. So for example,
meditation, what it does is it shuts down that busy, busy mind. And then we can hear our intuition,
we can hear our heart. And so for me, that's a spiritual practice. I don't need to go to church or
have somebody tell me that. It's always there. And so it's up to me to take care of myself and
have the discipline to do the practices, eat well, sleep well, exercise, be loving, do my best,
so that I feel more connected to myself. And meditation is part of that for me. I meditate
daily and it's very important because it helps me reconnect with myself as well as nature,
which I think is one of the real travesties of what's happening in the world,
is that we're destroying nature. And what does nature do? It enthralls us, it makes us present,
it brings us back to ourselves, and also teaches us that we're just these little humans. There's so
much wonder in the world. And so you can see people go to a zoo and they're just captivated
by the animals. Yet as a species, humanity is destroying that. I believe that every soul has
a purpose and that we make a commitment before we come to the earth that we want to live out
that contract. Now, we might not live out that contract and we might have to come back again,
or we come back anyway. This is my belief, right? We come back by choice. But everyone has their own
purpose. And my purpose was to learn how to be happy, how to trust myself, and how to feel my
heart and work from that way. And also share the message of that, so that other people can live
from their heart. So in my near-death experience, when I said I want to stay for the work that I do,
I had a little download that happened, like images. And part of that was this message that I had to
be myself and share myself. The last eight years, it's been, okay, what are these experiences from
the past that stop me from being myself, right? But they don't stop me from being myself. That's
a choice that I allow them to stop me. And it's been amazing to live life from a very different
place, living from the heart. I think we have rich people and poor people and happy people and
miserable people and healthy people and sick people, because there's something that we want
to discover about ourselves or our souls, or that we want to have a different experience of life.
So maybe in this life, I have a curiosity around what it would be like to be an artist.
And so then the next life, I get to live the life of an artist, or I have a curiosity around what it
would be like to be really unwell. What would I learn about myself if I was really unwell? What
would I learn about myself if I was really poor? What would I learn about myself if I was rich?
And so that this understanding of experiencing ourselves, but also coming back to who we truly
are. So my experience when I had the near-death experience, I felt that. I felt who I truly was.
And I've felt it many, many, many, many, many times now in my life. There's a sense of inner power
there and inner peace. And I think for all of us, it's okay, hard things happen in our lives.
You know, there's hard things that happen in my life. Can I feel myself, feel my emotions, be present
with myself when those hard things are happening, as well as the good things? Can I still be present
and here and loving and kind and live life fully, no matter what's happening in my world? And I think
that for a lot of us, and I've seen this when I travel the world, right? I see people that are
poor, but I see them that there's like happiness that they have. And I've worked with wealthy
people that aren't very happy, but what they want to do is connect to their heart and be happy.
So there's something there for all of us where we choose the experience to reconnect with our
inner power. Do I believe in karma? Well, yes, I do believe in karma. I think that that's part of
how the universe works, is that we're responsible for our actions and that everything is in balance.
So if I perform a good action, something will happen to bring me back in balance. My mind
thinks that life's not fair. My mind thinks that these unfair things shouldn't happen. Whereas the
truth is things happen all the time. It's what I make them mean that means if I make them feel
hard or not, if that makes sense. So there's a balance. And if we can stay in that balance and
know that, well, if I treat people well, good things will happen to me as well as bad things.
That's the balance. But I know that I have my own internal measure of what is good.
My intuition tells me what is good. And so if I live that good life, I have a better experience
of life. If I ignore what my intuition tells me, my karma is that I have a harder experience of life.
So me being the most fulfilled and empowered version of myself, that's part of my purpose.
Because if I take care of myself, I love myself, I listen to my intuition, I do the work that my
intuition tells me to do and live the way that my intuition tells me to do, then that adds value to
everybody else. And so that's my purpose. And before my near-death experience, I wasn't living
that way. I was putting myself last. I was putting my health last. I wasn't listening to my intuition.
And so I wasn't able to serve the world the way that I meant to serve the world,
because I wasn't doing those things and taking care of myself. So
to me, that's part of the Dharma, shall we say, is that I'm here to do what's right by myself
or for myself. And that's also right for everybody else. In my opinion, there's ultimate forgiveness
after death, because those emotions of hate or resentment or regret or grief or sadness,
they're part of the human body, right? They're being put on as I've grown, as I've been living
my life. These resentments and these perceptions of wrongdoing have been put on. So when I leave
my body, I don't have them anymore. I return to that pure state of love and consciousness.
And so when I say consciousness, there's this aspect of our self, which never goes away.
If we're living or dead, it never goes away. And that's consciousness. And you have a consciousness,
I have a consciousness. And together, all these consciousness, they make up the fabric of the
universe. They make up what is actually true. And that the material world, it appears true,
but it's not, because the truth is that we exist after we leave our bodies. So yeah,
very, very interesting experience around that. If you're wondering how to live from the heart
without having a near-death experience, which I recommend finding it out before getting to the
point of having a near-death experience, you've got to listen. You've got to learn to listen to
your heart, because your heart, it's like this whisper. The mind can be like a shout and it's
getting in the way of the message. Your heart is whispering to you. And to hear that heart,
you just have to trust yourself. You have to connect in with yourself. You have to find that
part of you that's always guiding you. When you start to listen to that part and then do what it
says, right, so there's listening and there's taking action, when you do that, your life will
change. Doesn't mean it's going to be easy, but it's going to change and there's going to be a
lot more reward in your life than just operating from here. So use this as a tool. Use your heart
as the guide. So thank you for listening. Thank you for watching. It's such an honor to share
these thoughts with you and I appreciate that you've stayed till the end. And if you want to
reach out, feel free to reach out. I'm so happy to help people and there's lots of resources that
you find if you just search for my name.
