He showed incredible skills, and that at only 17 years old he can play on par with much more experienced volleyball players!
Simeon Vladimirov Nikolov , Bulgarian Симеон Владимиров Николов (born November 24, 2006 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian volleyball player , playing as a setter , representing the country .
His father is Vladimir Nikolov , one of the most successful representatives of Bulgaria.
His mother's name is Maja and he has 2 brothers: older Aleksander , a volleyball player playing as a receiver in the Italian club Cucine Lube Civitanova , and younger Filip.
In September 2023, he received a call-up from the coach of the senior Bulgarian national team Plamen Konstantinov for the intercontinental qualifying tournament for the 2024 Summer Olympics , being just under 17 years old.
In January 2024, the Bulgarian national team won the match against Turkey in the Balkan qualifiers for the European Junior Championships (BVA), where the volleyball player scored as many as 18 points. Nine of them were aces, four were blocks and the remaining 5 points were second-ball attacks and tip-ins
Free ball, okay.
Oh my goodness!
Simeon Nikolov nearly burst the ball,
dented the floor and knocked the venue down.
Wow!
Dimitrov.
Up spinning serve, Karol Klos meets it.
That's recycled by Fornal.
Goes the same way and the block is big.
Simeon Nikolov alongside Alex Drozdanov.
Fornal can't find the second solution,
had a good recycle.
Nikolov.
Oh, what a service!
Nikolov picks up an ace.
It is his strongest serve, this serve to 6-1.
Though statistically this ball shouldn't be going to Libero,
Kuba Popivchak.
The fans are close,
close to the court as Kordech serves.
Into Nikolov, scoops it over on the second.
He loves that play.
And he executes it well that time.
And at 2-0-7 that play can come pretty easily.
He can just stand there and take a small move.
And the change in timing because his hands are already above the net
buys him just enough.
Maybe the fire started to burn.
Asparov receiving, Asparov off the hands.
Fornal sets, Kordech swings and the block
is massive.
Oh, there's a net touch in the middle of it though.
So is Nikolov high?
That might be Asparov.
Yes.
Just on the bump, the elbow catching.
If we do commit to it, be full in our action.
Kors got his back in the way and Petkov
sides out.
Janusz.
Good first touch by Janusz.
Another roll into Nikolov.
So Bozhelov has to set and Asparov.
Oh, Petkov does brilliantly.
And Asparov again.
Kordech there, Kuba,
Slivko and a free ball.
This a good rally.
Needs a positive outcome from Dimitrov
and gets it.
Really nice job by both sides,
staying in this rally, staying aggressive,
being able to keep the ball in a position
where they can swing strong.
Fornal.
Oh, they blocked him again.
They have blocked him again.
Bulgaria are tucking in Tom Fornal.
Good reception here,
maybe a chance to go first tempo.
Oh, the block touch and Kurek
can't get there.
Bartosz Kurek a little bit flat-footed
on that one and Bulgaria
hit the overdrive button
towards the end of that first set
and take it 25-21.
Well, they were good.
Poland were a little bit sluggish
and they were made to pay.
We talked about
Poland, the big names,
but the game has to be won on the court.
It's not about what name is on the back.
Here he is serving Huber.
Into Bozulov.
That goes.
Confided low.
Off the top and again Kurek.
Not able to get there, I think,
is the easiest way of describing it.
Here is Kurek.
A bit more conservative on the serve.
That side.
Oh, that is sensational from Popivčuk.
And then they don't get it over.
Poland, you owe it to that man
to return that ball.
Huber Popivčuk.
Fantastic defensive play.
Just over-eagerness.
Dimitrov.
Unloads on Kurek.
Spun off.
This hits the first touch.
Still alive.
Free ball, OK.
Oh, my goodness!
Dimi and Nikolov
has nearly
burst the ball,
dented the floor
and knocked the venue down.
Wow.
Shorter again.
Zubachinov right out to Dimitrov.
And that's the side-out they needed.
Zubachinov, good touch.
And a great save.
And this time it is returned.
Oh, he's done it again.
Simeon Nikolov
keeping them guessing.
Brilliant reflexes.
High volleyball IQ.
We like that a lot.
We like this a lot, too.
Great scramble by Slipknot.
I think he's changed his mind there
because he was thinking about
burying that for a second,
wasn't he?
Sort of.
And when you're 207 and high,
you have the time above you.
Yeah, yeah.
Kurek.
And Zubachinov
rescued.
Oh, yes!
Tatarov!
There is some volleyball being played.
Really good choice.
Pipe behind.
Passes way back across the net.
Polish block doesn't have time to be rescued.
Doesn't do extra.
That's really nice of Tatarov.
Lovely tempo.
Tatarov does a great job
getting his feet to the ball
so he can step on it,
get inside the sideline
and swing into the seam of the block.
One-point game again.
But the intent is there.
Cross.
Oh, that is class from Dimitrov.
One out of the Slivka playbook.
Excellent solution.
Nikolov drops it inside.
Great facial as well.
Slivka sending Tatarov back.
Dimitrov.
Kurek.
Popivchuk.
Of course he's there.
And Fornal can set it over this time.
Now to level it.
13-13.
Game on.
Bulgaria on the move.
Dimitrov has provided a really good outlet
from the right side of the court for Bulgaria.
And not just trying to play his...
Dimitrov.
Tidies up.
That takes him up to 10 points.
He is flying.
Slivka.
Excellent.
Excellent by Pulchinov.
It was a brave effort on the slide in.
But that is the deftest of touches.
He's just almost brushed it past Kurek's ear.
For Nikolov there, it's just make the easiest play
and let your hitters find the solution.
And load from the service line
and create a three-ball opportunity.
Another go here then for Bulgaria.
Off the hands it goes by Petkov.
Offer Nikolov.
Cannon.
And Bulgaria lead.
Really nice patience again from Bulgaria.
They're getting these multiple attempts.
Pulchinov is out there primarily to stabilize their reception.
That's his best skill.
Huber can go again on to Pulchinov.
Back the other way and Dimitrov.
Poland not too far away from going back to back.
This is a wonderful blocking front row for Poland.
Kurek can really lock down his side.
Krokanovsky is so fast.
Finishes so well.
For the set.
That's on it.
So that is a very good first action.
A very good last touch by Dimitrov.
Thanks for watching.
