Bruno, a devastating loss here at the stadium. What's your initial thoughts?
No, it's a very disappointing day for us. It hurts a lot because we had a big expectation
for this final, for this competition. We know it wouldn't change our season, but it will make it a
little bit brighter and it will make us look at the future in a different way. Not just us,
but the fans, everyone around the club, and obviously it's a very tough one.
From your point of view, what was the difference today?
We conceded a goal, we couldn't score, we tried, we had some chances, but
that's the difference in football sometimes. I don't think they had that many chances,
but the one they had, they were successful and we couldn't get our goal. And obviously
it's very painful. It's difficult because, as I said before, we had big expectations,
not just for ourselves, but also for our fans. We wanted so much to give something back to them,
and unfortunately we couldn't do it today. You've mentioned the fans there. There are
fans that have supported you all throughout this entire season, travelling up and down,
fans that have driven 30 hours a day, took about five planes, they've done everything.
What would you like to say to them to thank them for how much they've supported you all
through this Europa League journey? I really feel so much that this season has been
very tough on them. More than on us, very tough on them. It's very difficult for me to put into
words or to say something that will make them better, or to make them feel better. It was not
our season, but we will come back next season. Diogo, a heartbreaking result. How do you feel?
Heartbreaking. I think that's the word. Frustration. You come here with an expectation
to win a game, to have something for you to grab, some positivity from this season,
but in the end it's hard to take. A really tough result, obviously, not being able to
win a trophy that could give some joy, especially to the fans. Seeing them at the end hurts a lot,
so a really tough night. How do you assess the whole game then? What would you say is the story
of the game? I think it sums up a little bit our season. A rollercoaster of emotions during the
game. We started well, I think, controlling the game. Even emotionally we were in control. Then
you concede a goal, you want to fight for the result, sometimes a little bit too anxious,
but we kept fighting until the end. You could see we were on top of the final third,
trying with crosses, trying with everything. They do goal line clearances, so it just sums up
what we've been doing this season. Lack of scoring goals, and that ultimately
could push us to different results in a lot of games, and today was one more.
We've seen how much this defeat hurt, with the look on every player's face there.
This hurts deep, and it means so much. It's because you care so much for the fans.
And it has to hurt. If you don't feel hurt, if you don't feel disappointed, if you don't feel
that this is nowhere near the standard that this club is and should be, you cannot be here.
We need to be tired of having this feeling of not winning. We need to be obsessed about changing
things, obsessed about winning more, being able to match the standards of the club.
It hurts when you see the fans like this. They've been with us every single time, even after the
poor results that we had and the difficult season that we had. They don't deserve it,
and if it doesn't hurt you, if you don't feel it, then you should not be here.
If it hurts, it's the first good sign, I would say, for things to change,
because this club cannot die and will never die. It's a time for reflection. Everybody needs to
reflect, and when it's time to make decisions, make decisions. When it's time to act, we act.
And when it's time for us to go on the pitch, we have to win games.
I think that's the ultimate change that needs to happen.
