Welcome to Life After Life Channel, where we delve into the profound theme of the ""end"" - an exploration of life's closeness and transitions. Join us on a journey to gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies and meanings of life through a unique perspective on endings and new beginnings."
We're starting to move out of that old state,
that state that's kept humans in suffering,
in greed, in competition, for so long.
Hello, my name's Damien Horton.
I am a teacher, author of the book Limitless,
Reconnecting with the Infinite Power Within,
and a mindset coach and professional musician as well.
And I'm here today to share a message
about my near-death experience,
and talk to you a bit about my book, Limitless,
Reconnecting with the Infinite Power Within.
And I'm looking forward to this interview with Mia.
Very grateful to be part of the podcast today.
So I grew up in South Australia,
and my parents parted ways when I was three years old.
And as a very young boy, I had a lot of self-worth issues,
a lot of dark depression,
and I really didn't cope with not having that father figure,
with not having a dad around.
And probably around about the age 10 or 11,
it collapsed into depression.
So my life before my near-death experience
was colored by a lot of mental health issues,
addiction, and self-worth issues,
just believing that I wasn't worthy of love,
that I wasn't worthy of having that family unit
and a dad that cared about me and loved me.
So I was extremely lost for a long period of time,
and I had many dreams or heart's desires
that were burning away inside me,
but I always just believed that I wasn't capable
of pursuing what was in my heart,
and I believed I wasn't good enough to follow my passion,
to help other people,
to follow my passion to write music
and share my music with the world.
And so I guess, for me,
the night of my near-death experience was August 12, 2007,
and that was my dark night of the soul,
where all the different roads had sort of converged
to this point in time where I knew
that I couldn't continue anymore.
I couldn't go on any further with the depression,
with the addiction and the lifestyle that I was living.
And I found myself at a crossroads, quite literally.
It was late at night.
I was in my car all by myself, and I reached the bottom.
There was literally nowhere else
I could turn to.
There was nothing else I could do
to take away the hollowness that I felt inside myself.
And I found myself literally at this intersection,
these three roads ahead of me,
and my hands were sort of slumped over the steering wheel.
And as low as you can go, as bad as you can get,
it was that moment in time,
and I had tears streaming down my face,
and I said to the universe
that I won't go on any longer with this pain.
I won't live one more moment in self-hate.
And I promised, I promised in every cell of my body
that in the morning, I would get it right.
In the morning, I would change,
and I would finally find a way
out of all the darkness and all the self-hate.
And I sent that intention out, and I promised.
And 45 seconds later,
I was going around a bend far too fast in my car,
and the car slid out,
and my head smashed into the steering wheel,
and I had critical head injuries,
complex panfacial fractures,
and multiple skull fractures,
and broke my spine in six places.
So the situation was critical.
And the emergency services saved my life that night.
They cut the roof off my car and stabilized me
and got me to the emergency room
at the Royal Adelaide Hospital within an hour.
And I was in a coma then for over a week.
While they performed radical reconstructive surgery
on my face,
they had to surgically cut my face from one ear
all the way over to this ear,
and surgically remove my face
and rebuild it with more than 40 pieces of titanium.
In this coma, my mom was cautioned
that I would probably have permanent brain damage,
probably be blind,
and they thought I was also gonna be in a wheelchair
for the rest of my life,
because the testing that they did on my legs and feet
didn't show a normal response.
So they carried out marathon surgery
and put my face all back together,
and then I came out of the coma,
yeah, a little over a week later.
And I guess in many ways,
that was sort of when my life began.
That was the start of my life.
The experience I had during those seven or eight days
was a profound experience
that was so real,
it's hard to even put into words.
For everyone else,
seven or eight days had gone by,
and all my loved ones, my family were in so much turmoil
and worry about whether or not I was gonna be okay.
For me, I instantly just found myself
in a space where there was no identity
of Damien Horton anymore.
So everything that is unique to me,
everything that I would say I can feel or find in my heart,
that existed there as consciousness.
So rather than I am Damien Horton,
I am insert your date of birth
and the story of your past in there.
It was just consciousness, just I am.
And I had a profound spiritual awakening
where I was given a choice, ultimately.
And the choice was to either return to pain
and to return to my suffering,
to return to my addiction, or to choose love.
And I was almost being set up.
It's very hard to explain,
but there was a scene where I was being tested, I guess,
or tempted to make a decision.
And I remember clearly that I could feel infinite
and immense love pouring out of my heart.
And in the coma, I chose love.
I chose the same promise that I made before the car crash.
So there were people within the coma,
but none of them were separate from me,
which is extremely hard
in our normal state of consciousness
to comprehend all the visions
and all the people within that space.
They are all extensions of yourself.
Because what I found is we go from this world of polarity
and the many varied expressions of life
that we see all throughout the world,
but we go back to unity,
where, as I said before, that I am Damien Horton,
I am Mia, all of the beliefs we hold to be true
and the story of our past
and the conditions that we've put on life,
all of that lifts off.
And what's left is consciousness.
It's infinite, loving, and eternal consciousness,
but it's all unified.
And that's very hard for many people to comprehend
because the way our five senses interpret reality,
we see, feel, hear, and touch,
and there's me, and then there's not me.
There's me and all these other people out there.
But ultimately, where we come from,
which I would refer to as source consciousness,
in that place, there is no polarity, there's no duality.
Everything is unified,
and everything is one where we come from.
And that's the place we all came from before we were born,
and it's the place that we all go back to
when the physical body dies.
But it's only the physical shell which gets old
and eventually dies.
It's like a vessel that we're using to experience form,
to experience this physical reality.
But the consciousness that we are, that's eternal.
It doesn't have a start point,
and it doesn't have an end point.
And it's that consciousness that gives life to the body.
For example, the brain.
The brain as an organ by itself,
it's just a lump of tissue.
Until consciousness starts moving
through neurological tissue and animating the brain,
we don't have mind, we don't have the ability
to have thought, conscious thought.
So the best way to explain it is
you can witness a thought in your head,
and we can become aware of feelings in our body
or stress or a charge in the body.
But ultimately, we are the observing consciousness
that's having that experience of a thought in the head
or of an angry feeling in the body.
And that's who we are, that's the true self.
When we die, as I said before,
when we die, all the things that we've identified with,
all the beliefs and the arguments we've had
and all the thoughts that we think,
all those conditioned states of consciousness
go from the I am, Damien Horton,
I am an author, I am a musician,
and here's the story of where I came from.
All of that just returns
to infinite, eternal, unified consciousness.
And it's the coming home of all coming homes.
It's the most familiar place,
and we just remember.
Ultimately, death is just the changing of form
from being completely focused on this physical world
to opening up to infinity, quite literally.
And we just basically remember who we are.
You remember exactly where you came from.
Okay, so how do we and how quickly can we
change the world for the better and create a new humanity?
It's about each one of us taking responsibility.
Each one of us is playing an integral part
in the collective consciousness.
And humanity's being trapped in an insane cycle
of action and reaction of I believe this,
you don't believe me, and then we move into war,
we move into violence.
And this is where we see the racism,
the sexism, the bigotry,
all of it is born out of one dysfunction,
human beings not being able to feel
that we are one consciousness,
the ultimate truth,
which everyone can experience for themselves.
And you don't need to have a near-death experience.
You can do it through meditation,
you can do it through martial arts,
through breath work, through many different ways.
So the answer for us all is to take responsibility
for how we are adding to the collective karmic wheel.
How we are all adding to this unconsciousness
and this dysfunction in the world.
And then for us to do all we can to cultivate inner peace
and to live in non-reactivity.
Because every single time we react
and every single time we point outward
or we feel hatred towards another person
because of their color of their skin or their religion
or their sexual preferences or their political views,
each time collectively,
we're keeping humanity trapped
in this insane cycle of action-reaction.
So quite literally, the answer
is for all of us to awaken.
Once you know where you came from
and you can feel that shared unity,
compassion and joy are naturally there.
You don't need to do anything.
You're not trying to be a compassionate person.
You're not trying to find happiness in the outer world.
Joy, compassion and love are naturally there
as soon as you awaken consciousness.
And in that state, we don't continue to hurt
and pollute the earth and one another.
So you honor life.
And once we can all begin to awaken
and start to honor life,
this entire world will change.
And this was the vision
that so many spiritual teachers have had
and have taught about this for thousands of years.
Well, it's available to us all now,
but we have to stop pointing outward
and we have to stop making enemies
and hanging on to pain
and instead look within ourself.
And that's when you return to love.
And that's the answer.
So after I came out of that coma,
a few incredible things changed.
One was just this feeling
like an electrical source had been plugged into my heart,
like 240 volts had just been plugged straight
into my chest.
So I was able just to move into deep gratitude
and compassion and love just instantly.
And jealousy was taken from me completely.
So I haven't experienced jealousy or enemies
since I came out of that coma.
And I haven't experienced boredom either.
I'm actually just writing a chapter about this
in my second book right now.
That boredom is literally a disease of the mind.
And once you awaken consciousness,
you start to disidentify with your thoughts.
They don't become so heavy.
They're not so real anymore.
And because you can feel that immense joy for existence,
the idea of boredom is, it just seems insane.
So yeah, jealousy, hatred and enemies
and boredom were taken from me.
And it's just opened my life up to so much beauty
that I didn't used to be able to see it.
I couldn't feel it all around me.
And as soon as I came out of that coma,
the smallest thing, watching nature, watching a butterfly
is able to leave you truly in awe of how beautiful
and how sacred this world is.
But as I said before, in the unawakened state,
the unenlightened state of consciousness is dysfunctional.
And we're always trying to take from the world.
We're trying to take from the outer environment.
This is like the corporate greed
and the destruction of rainforests
and the pollution that we see in our environment.
This is all a extension or a manifestation
of human beings not being able to feel the true self.
And so our inner pollution is then reflected
everywhere outside with an outer pollution as well.
But the biggest thing for me has been being able to know,
not believe, but know and feel that this life is a miracle.
It's a sacred miracle
and all expressions of life are precious.
So yeah, the wonder returned times a billion.
It just flowed back into my body
and it felt like it energized
all of the 70 trillion cells in my body
just felt like there was more energy, there was more love.
And it's been the greatest gift I could ever receive.
The greatest blessing I've ever had
has been all of this pain
and ultimately then being reborn from that place.
And so my mission now with my new business,
with Limitless Initiatives,
with the workshops that I run
and the motivational speaking that I do
is we can either awaken from pain like I did
or we can awaken from love
and a deep responsibility for life.
And I wanna see more and more people
being able to feel that so that we start to see change
without the need for pain and suffering
because the way I did it is the old way.
It's the unintelligent way.
It's going through so much pain and so much suffering
that you finally awaken.
But it's not necessary anymore.
As more and more humans start to expand their consciousness,
we can all begin to change this world from a place of love
and the suffering becomes less and less important.
Like in my story, in my path, it was crucial
and I don't wanna change that.
But now one of the first things I said to my mom
when I came out of that coma and I was only 42 kilos,
I was emaciated.
I said to mom, I have to help, I have to teach.
I've gotta show people that there is a far higher truth
than what we were told on the television
and what we learned at university or college
or what we find out about on social media.
There's an infinitely greater truth
that's accessible to all of us, not just some of us.
It's our birthright, every one of us.
You know, not the guru that we need to worship,
but you, you and me, all of us, Mia.
So that's my message for the world.
So what's my feeling about the future ahead
for humanity and for this world?
It's extremely positive.
I felt very alone
when I awakened and came out of this near-death experience.
And I have seen over the last 12 or 13 years
a rapid expansion of consciousness.
I've seen just, yeah, people all throughout the world,
on YouTube, people I meet day-to-day
when I've been traveling, running my live events
and speaking, that this collective consciousness
is starting to expand just naturally.
We're starting to move out of that old state,
that state that's kept humans in suffering,
in greed, in competition for so long.
You know, it almost felt to me like
there was a big expansion of that, you know,
with the 80s and the 90s and the whole corporate mindset.
And I mean, now we're even seeing conscious corporations.
We're seeing conscious businesses.
We're seeing more awakened people move into even politics.
And so what I see is very, very positive.
It's very inspiring.
And I believe in my heart that there's gonna be
radical changes taking place.
They're already taking place,
but especially over the next 10 to 20 years,
it's gonna be a vastly different world
that we move into, which is beautiful
for the next generation.
It's beautiful for these kids coming through now
that we're gonna hand them a more sustainable world.
We're gonna hand them a way of living in harmony
with nature, where there's more equality,
there's more prosperity,
and there's more compassion for one another.
As I said before, we are all one consciousness.
So if I wanted to harm someone or I attack another person,
it would be like attacking or harming myself.
Once you awaken, it becomes impossible to have enemies,
to wanna harm another human being.
It's just not possible.
It's just love, Mia.
It's just love, I promise you that,
infinite and eternal love.
Ultimately, I know that we are creating our experience.
Consciousness creates reality.
Matter does not exist until consciousness gives life to it.
So our thoughts and our feelings and our beliefs,
they travel forward into our future
to manifest the world we inhabit.
There's a beautiful quote that says,
the future is not some place that we're going,
but one that we're creating.
So the paths aren't to be found.
You're not trying to find your way.
They're to be made.
And the act of making plans changes both the maker
and the destination.
We are in a co-creation with universal consciousness,
having this experience.
And it means we're powerful beyond measure.
So the idea that everything's predestined,
I personally have experienced that that's not the case.
And that's just a belief,
that's a mindset that ultimately disempowers human beings.
And it very quickly leads to apathy.
Because, oh, what the hell?
Everything's predetermined.
And ultimately, the most important thing
for everyone out there is your state of consciousness.
This is the most fundamental thing that we have
is our own state of being.
So as we talked about before,
every time we're in stress or we're reactive
or we're hating another group or another religion,
we are adding to the problems
that humanity has faced for thousands of years, okay?
We are contributing to the problem.
So the most fundamental thing we have
is for us to always look in the mirror first
and always maintain that state of inner peace and inner joy.
And the more consciousness you have,
the more you can respond to life
rather than constantly reacting and reacting to life.
And the more we live in stress,
the more we turn off our immune system.
So there's a direct link between stress, anger,
and reactivity and whether or not
we have a normally functioning immune system.
So Dr. Bruce Lipton, he has published about this
and written about this,
that it's standard medical practice for doctors
when you go in for an organ transplant
to administer the stress response.
They will actually inject you with the stress response
to turn off your own immune system.
So this foreign body, this foreign tissue
that they're trying to transplant into you
doesn't get attacked by your immune system, okay?
So the medical establishment has known for a very long time
that when we are stressed and when we react,
we start to compromise our health.
We start to compromise the health of the cells,
the vitality of the cells.
And the most important thing for us to do
is to nurture our body.
It's our temple, okay?
And take responsibility for that.
And it's not just sort of good enough to say,
well, this morning I did yoga for 25 minutes
or this morning I meditated for 45 minutes.
If you then go to work and go about your day
and you're constantly angry
and you're constantly judging other human beings
or feeling stressed.
So the most important thing we have is our state of being,
is how we carry ourselves throughout the day
so that we can collectively contribute to humanity
and so that we're not harming our own precious body
because stress is linked to every known major disease
that we can experience.
