Flocks of people will be celebrating the final day of the holiday weekend at the Jersey Shore
As he just pointed out, today is
Memorial Day. While many are using the
day off to take a trip to the beach or
maybe have a family cookout, the true
meaning of the holiday is to honor those
brave military members who made the
ultimate sacrifice as they defended our
country. Special services are being held
across our area today. One of those will
be at the Seapport Museum at Pins
Landing. That'll start at 10:00. Ocean
City will also hold a ceremony
recognizing gold star mothers at
Veterans Memorial Park. That event will
also pay tribute to a 102-year-old World
War II vet from Ocean City. Of course,
as usual, families are flocking to the
beach on this Memorial Day weekend,
which marks the unofficial start of the
summer season. Sky 6 is looking live
down the shore in Ocean City. It looks
beautiful out there. You can see the
bike riders and people strolling.
Despite the wind and some chilly
conditions, people still continue to
enjoy the sand and the boardwalk. They
were top destinations. Action News
reporter Jessica Cartalia is live in
Ocean City where folks will squeeze in
one final day of fun. The sun has risen.
Feel a little bit warmer out there yet,
Jess? Yeah, it is beautiful. And we just
saw all of these dolphins going behind
us. Getting a great start to the
morning. A lot of walkers, people out on
their bikes. Travel up 3% this Memorial
Day weekend. And so many people from our
region are coming here to the shore with
some clouds and wind. People were more
bundled up this weekend than actually
beachy. In Atlantic City, there were
more people on the boardwalk than on the
sand, but people are still making the
best of this weather. It's a beach day
after all. The water still pretty chilly
if you're going to venture in, but Beach
Patrol is keeping a watch over those who
are brave enough to take a dip. In
Wildwood, the mayor expecting more
families this weekend than usual as
well. And that 10pm boardwalk curfew is
in effect for the kids. We've been
preaching about the security. We've been
preaching about we're not going to
tolerate the the stupidity of of young
some young kids on the boardwalk and
what have you.
But so far, no major problems have been
reported. If you are planning on driving
back today, the peak travel time between
4 and 700 p.m., but TripleA is saying
the AC Expressway is expected to start
getting a little bit slow, that heavier
traffic right around noon. So, get an
early start and then get on the road.

Coffee and one of those famous Ocean
City donuts on the beach and then you'll
be ready to jump in the car. Yes. Thank
you, Jessica. Here's some more travel
tips for the return home. AAA says the
best time to drive is before 2:00 in the
afternoon. The worst time between 4 and
7 in the evening. That's when holiday
traffic is expected to peak. With that
said, the national average for a gallon
of regular gas is 3:18, which is the
lowest Memorial Day average since 2021.
If you stay closer to home, there are
plenty of family-friendly events in and
around Philadelphia. The National
Constitution Center has free admission
and special programming to mark the
holiday. The Museum of the American
Revolution is offering free admission
for veterans, active military members,
and their families.
