Palo Duro Canyon State Park is one of the most underrated destinations I've EVER been to! It's the second-largest canyon in the United States and is a quick 45-minute drive from Amarillo. There's some awesome RV camping in Palo Duro (we stayed at Juniper campground), the hikes are absolutely STUNNING, and the mountain biking trails are epic.
That's it right? That's freaking huge.
What is the plan for today? So today we are going to Palo Duro which is, first of all, I don't know
how I've never heard of this place. It's basically, it's the second biggest Grand Canyon in the U.S.
behind the Grand Canyon and it's called like the Grand Canyon of Texas and we're going to pass
through Amarillo on our way through New Mexico to Arizona and my great aunt, she lives in Texas
and she was like, well why don't you just go to Palo Duro? So we looked it up, it's so cool. We
booked a campsite last night for like 25 bucks and we're staying in the canyon tonight. It's about
seven hours away of a drive so we're gonna be driving all day to get there. The goal is to get
there before sunset and then we're gonna go hiking tomorrow.
Bye!
You said drive. Road trip! Road trip. Yeah!
Hi. Hey, um, front seat bag that you took out, all hers got left here. What did?
That, um, that bag that you took off, what clothes and stuff you had in your cooler.
All right, we're on our way back. No, no, no, no. I'll wait y'all. I don't, I don't need it that bad.
Yeah, y'all, y'all can't be that far. We're, we're at exit 645 on the 82.
Okay, I'll, I'll head that way and meet you. Thank you. I'm so sorry. It's okay, I'm glad we caught it now.
This is our home for the next 30 minutes on the side of the highway. I feel like this happens to
us way too often. Well, at least we have a bathroom in the trailer because obviously I have to pee
already after 30 minutes. Good job. Thank you. Secure the bag. Bye!
His aunt came, she's a queen, and gave me my stuff. It was like a 30-minute drive, so. 36.
Thank you. 36-minute drive, so I have all my bathing suits. Yay! Oh, I dropped everything.
So now we're en route and we're now gonna probably get there, what, 6 30 you think?
Yay!
So Dylan has chosen this Flying J because it's two cents cheaper than everywhere else.
Listen, at the end of the day, it adds up really quick.
So in honor of camping at our first, like, natural area of the trip, I'm busting out
the propane stove. And I was not on YouTube when I was car camping, but last fall I car
camped all through Colorado and Utah for two months and I literally, like, did not spend a
day without opening this propane stove and cooking on it. So this is very fun for me.
We're gonna have just some pasta tonight. It's a really clear night, or it's gonna be a clear
night, so I'm gonna set up the Eno and look at the stars. But hopefully the bugs go away because
it's very buggy right now. Vibes are great. We're very happy to be here. We're literally
in the center of the canyon right now. Like, just in the canyon. We're, like,
five minutes from all the trails. It's very exciting. All right, so I already filled this
up with water and we got pasta, sauce, spinach, and salt. Hello? I hear you. All right, she's on.
And usually this thing is, like, super powerful,
like, more powerful than a lot of stoves I've used. This thing will start boiling in, like,
a couple minutes probably. I forgot the spoon. Dylan's getting it for me.
Thank you, sir. I'm always so bad at Enos. I don't know why it's so difficult.
Okay, put it down a little. Not entirely sure.
Oh, yeah. All right, you're never moving, are you? All right, it's done, everyone. All right,
I'm gonna strain this in the grass. Is that bad? Nope. Okay. Just water. Oh, wait, I need to turn
the burner off. There's currently a drone in the sky. Usually it's just us with the annoying buzzing
drone. We have another filmer somewhere in the park. Oh, my goodness. Oh, that's very warm,
I can feel it. This is probably bad. What if I fall? What if you fall? Should I put it down? Yes.
Watch, we're gonna have these, like, pound and a half.
This is the weight that puts it over the edge. This is not the side we're gonna be sitting on.
as we hike. I know. We'll put it in the next video if we can figure it out. Our next hike will. Yes.
This is where the hike truly begins. The last, like, quarter-ish of a mile.
Basically, like, straight uphill up these rocks. But this is the fun kind of hiking that I like,
so I'm not complaining. We made it. There she is. Is that it? That's it, right? That's freaking huge.
So we made it to the top. I'm enjoying my breakfast. I always make overnight oats
before my hikes. It's a tradition that I have. Basically, Palo Duro, I haven't really explained
it. It's nicknamed, like, the Grand Canyon of Texas because, as you can see, it kind of looks
like a lot of people mistake it for the Grand Canyon. It's actually the second biggest canyon
in the U.S. The canyon's actually 120 miles long and 800 feet deep, which is pretty cool. We are on
Lighthouse Trail and this is the most popular trail in the park because it leads to the
Lighthouse Rock, which is the most popular rock in Palo Duro. So the rock is actually 300 feet high,
which is why we decided to come at sunrise. And there's, like, we only saw maybe four people the
whole time and we're up here by ourselves, which is awesome. But yeah, this is a really cool park.
Definitely recommend. It's right outside of Amarillo, about 45 minutes to an hour outside
of Amarillo. And it's actually really accessible. You can drive your car through the whole canyon
in about 45 minutes. And so, you know, you don't have to, like, hike it. You can actually drive
through it if you're just passing through, which is really cool. So yeah, very cool spot. Very glad
we came. Highly recommend. So we just got back to our campsite and pull up and there's, like,
a turkey just chilling. Do you want to be a friend? Friend?
So yes, there is a dump here, in case you were wondering. Grew so funny.
