So we're taking paint techniques and making into cake decorating techniques.
Whew!
We had to make a lot of mirror glaze for this video.
When making mirror glaze, do not use a whisk.
It causes so many bubbles.
What you should use is a spatula or a spoon.
It minimizes the bubbles so you have a nice glossy finish.
To make the mirror glaze more like paint, I added more white chocolate and less gelatin.
This made it a lot thinner and it looked just like paint.
You have to move fast when working with mirror glaze because once it sets, it's so sticky.
As you can see, mirror glaze can be pretty messy.
So I recommend doing this over a sheet tray or a tarp.
We also made a ton of buttercream on this video.
A hack to make your buttercream colors more vibrant is to use an immersion blender.
So essentially the immersion blender heats up the buttercream, allowing the color to
be a lot more vibrant while also using less food coloring.
We used Swiss meringue buttercream because it's silkier and it has a glossy finish that's
super similar to paint.
Just remember, it's abstract, so have fun, don't take it too seriously, and it will all
come together in the end.
Thanks for watching Above the Hands.
Now wash these hands, flip this cake.
That was awesome.
