If you want a big life, there's something you have to do first.
Stop normalizing negativity and calling it reality.
This is a critical mindset shift because if it's not done,
you're never going to realize anything outside of what you've already seen to be true.
And you know what I mean. We do this all the time.
Maybe someone you work with has said to you,
oh, I'm going to quit this 9 to 5 and go out on my own.
You may have thought that'll never happen.
Or maybe a friend has told you they want to travel to a foreign country
and they plan on going by themselves.
You might think or say out loud, you can't do that.
That's dangerous. You have the best of intentions.
But what you're actually doing is tearing someone down and calling it having their best interest.
You know, someone has claimed to have your best interest before you felt torn down.
The worst part is that when we do this other people,
it's actually hurting no one more than it hurts ourselves.
Because projecting this negativity is just doubling down on the reality
that hasn't reflected a big life that you would have hoped has happened for you yet.
You don't see anything great happening for yourself.
So you get busy by trying to make sense of the ridiculous audacity.
Everybody has for a better life
and you could be using that energy for something far more useful.
We can't do this. We can't do this to ourselves.
We can't do this to our friends. We can't do this to people.
We barely know I have a few tips to help you avoid this mindset
and start attracting a bigger life something you can do right now a tool.
You can use a new habit.
You can create and a new approach to goal-setting first.
Let's start with something you can do right now.
I want you to decide on something that you want to be true for yourself in 20 years.
Some might just call this a long-term goal,
but I think of it as I want to be able to say about myself at some point X
and then you really start to be able to visualize something rather than just come up with an arbitrary thing.
What do you visualize for yourself to be true in 20 years?
The reason this is so important is that we get so caught up in short-term goals
and then when we don't see them happen get very discouraged that ultimately long-term visions never happen
because we don't think it's possible if something small cannot be
but in all actuality everything is a patience game for how we get to the long-term vision.
You have to stay true to that big thing
and be flexible in all of the different ways that can happen in that amount of time.
So for the person who wants to leave the job to start a business
and go out on their own their vision could be that they have a multi-million dollar Empire in 20 years.
Well going out on their own is a first step starting their own operation the next step
and to the person who wants to become a world traveler and visit a hundred countries,
then yeah, they're probably going to have to get started by visiting that first one
and not waiting for someone else to go along with them.
So think about the fact that what little things people want to do the little things that you want to do
they're contributing to a larger vision, but we have to know what that vision is.
So something you can have right now is knowing what you want to be true about yourself 20 years down the line
because it's going to start to make things a lot more clear of what you say.
Where do you make trade-offs?
Where do you say that's not a fit and this is knowing where you're headed no matter how long it's going to take
that's something you can do right now.
And I recommend you do it right now because without a vision a destination you could do anything at any time
for any reason and I think we're all here to have a much more intentional life than that.
Now, let's move on to a tool you can use.
I don't want you to get bogged down in the how it's going to crush you.
I know there's so many tools we have available to us that make things tangible and more possible.
But I think the most important one when you are so unclear of what to do exactly next is something that connects you with people.
So I want to introduce you to a brilliant way to do that start to connect with others and provide value for them.
And that's the sponsor of this segment of the video, which is our friends at ActiveCampaign.
ActiveCampaign is a must-have platform for intelligent email and marketing automation.
We hear a lot about marketing when we talk about business,
but it's basically another way of saying bringing awareness to what it is that you do to provide value.
So while companies get so much out of having a really effective marketing automation campaign,
so can an individual who is trying to connect with other people who could potentially be connecting them to their largest goals.
ActiveCampaign helps people get started right away with AI-powered automations that suggest, personalize, and validate their marketing campaigns.
So when you're making connections with people,
you don't have to take every single step manually yourself to build the relationship with them.
That's what ActiveCampaign can do for you.
Let me show you what I would do if I was just getting started with ActiveCampaign and using their AI-powered automations to build relationships with other people.
So the first place I'm headed in ActiveCampaign is automations.
What automations allows you to do is get people introduced to you automatically through your email marketing campaigns
so that they will get to know your brand, grow trust with you, and potentially help you build whatever it is your vision is.
Here in automations, it just helps you with direction so much.
You can look at all the things they can do, send targeted and effective campaigns, grow my list, and generate more leads, convert my current leads to customers,
automate my internal processes, nurture my contacts for action.
I really like that one because that's along the lines of what we're talking about here.
Try out these automations.
So we've got this one here, engage new contacts through personalized email series.
You've got an engagement campaign for a marketing team, engage potential customers.
Like I said, this first one is a great place to start.
I love this so much.
For those of us who are trying to get really techie but aren't, it's annoying.
But this is a visual representation of the journey someone's going to go on when they become a part of your community.
Now, obviously, these are arbitrary and generic because this is where you get to step in and customize the experience.
As soon as they subscribe, how can you get them that information?
Well, it's with this first automation.
This automation is going to go out as soon as you have them subscribe to your list.
No heavy lifting for you.
It's done and done.
So we're going to edit this email, and we want it to be a lot more personable.
Now, that's how I would start my emails off.
And then I'm going to go into this section and start writing a little bit about what I want someone to know now that they're here,
especially if I made them a promise on the page where they signed up.
I'm going to make sure that they know they're going to be made good on that promise, whether it's a free gift or something like that.
Of course, we might want to update our image here.
So we want to go to change image.
So obviously, if you don't have the photography, but you want to set a vibe, you can do that here.
Thanks to AI in ActiveCampaign.
And did we do that or did we do that?
This not only saves you time, this leaves a huge impact on people.
You'll suddenly get a reply to an email that you didn't even know went out because it's all based on when they subscribed.
And someone saying, thank you so much.
This was so valuable.
I love ActiveCampaign for making this happen because AI helps you with everything from building landing pages, having forms created, the automation, making your newsletters and emails just look beautiful.
It's all here.

Now on to a new habit to create.
You need to anticipate that you're going to have conversations with people that are going to trigger you.
It happens, right?
Things are going just fine.
And all of a sudden, somebody puts their big sunshiny rainbow dream on you when you're just not in the mood for it.
And you catch yourself going into the habit of that's never going to happen.
Oh my gosh, what are they thinking?
Telling everyone, you know, of their big audacious thought process, dreams and goals.
Like, how could they possibly?
We're going to create a new habit and that is for you to come up with your canned response.
Yes, kind of like in an email.
The canned response because you know, you're not your best self all the time, but you've pre-written an email for certain types of responses that happen a lot.
In this case, you're going to say this canned response probably to someone's face.
And you need to be ready with it.
So we're going to practice.
I came up with one that I really like.
Pretend like your coworker just told you that they are thinking about quitting their job to start their own business.
You're going to say, that sounds amazing.
I hope you do that.
Now, don't sound condescending because if you don't like this coworker, it probably won't reflect well.
But I want you to mean it.
That sounds amazing.
I hope you do that.
Imagine the opposite happened.
You told this person what you wanted to do and they said, that sounds amazing.
I hope you do that.
Did I just get a cheerleader?
Oh my gosh, the stakes are higher when someone says, I hope you do that.
It's like suddenly there's like a little bit of accountability, but also that somebody actually really wants something good for you.
Why can't you be that for someone else?
Because what's actually happening is the more you say stuff like, that sounds amazing.
I hope you do that.
What if you said that to yourself when you're reviewing your 20-year vision that you already came up with?
That sounds amazing.
I hope you do that.
These are the canned responses we need because we've already generated a whole list of them that is not helping.
That's ridiculous.
That sounds hard.
That's impossible.
No, you're not.
These are the things we're saying to other people and honestly projecting it from the fact that we're saying it to ourselves.
We write down these goals.
I want a million YouTube subscribers.
I want a big business.
I want to travel the world.
I want a huge house and you're like, yeah, but it's never going to happen because that's the canned response.
The habit you have to create is that you'll be so nice to someone else about their thing that it will hopefully bleed into what everyone thinks
and certainly what you think about your things.
So get into the habit of it.
If you don't like that phrase, pick another one.
This makes me think of Stephen Covey's fifth habit of highly effective people,
which is seek first to understand then to be understood because there's a phrase that he says to think and to use that has resonated with me for so long.
When you're having a conversation with someone and you're just not seeing eye-to-eye with them and you just need to allow the person to feel understood because otherwise you're not going to get anywhere in the conversation,
much less try to win it or be understood yourself.
The phrase that he suggests is if I were you, I would feel the exact same way.
That's true.
Like even if right now you're like, I don't know what the heck they're talking about and that's weird and I would never want that and I don't feel that way and I have completely different juxtaposition.
It's just like not even a thing.
But if you were them, you would feel that way because they just told you so.
So that's what makes me think like this.
That sounds amazing.
I hope you do that because you're basically saying that if I were in that position, I would want the same thing too.
And I hope you go and get what you want.
And that's all we all want.
We all just want to be understood.
We certainly want to be understood when we feel so presumptuous, but to share the things that are important to us that we hope happen at some point.
So get your canned responses ready.
That's a good one.
By the way, if I were you, I would feel the exact same way because you would be them.
I mean, it just is like the most makes sense phrase.
I think I have ever heard.
If you have not read that book, read that book.
It's a life-changing book, but get into the habit of having a more positive response.
That doesn't mean that you have to hold anyone accountable or hold yourself accountable.
It just means you're cheering for someone no matter what they want their life to look like because they only get one too.
And that brings me to my final tip, which is a new approach to your goals.
Now, I've talked about this before a little bit, but I like to frame goals as something that is possible because you can do it.
So something tangible that if you complete it, you are completing the goal.
So for instance, if your goal is that you want to visit 100 countries in your lifetime, cool, but that's sort of like, yes, that is tangible.
Like you just go and you visit them and it's done, but it's really, really big, right?
What is something that you can do that would contribute to that vision?
This is why we have that vision so we can figure out what the tangibles are.
So if the very first step is to get your passport, that's a goal.
Get your passport.
That's 100% within your control.
And that is what I like about goals.
The new approach I really want you to see in this one is that what's really happening is you have all these goals that contribute to the larger vision.
So they're annual, they're quarterly.
If you do the 12-week goal thing, like I really like, that's another example of it.
These are stair steps toward the vision.
But what's actually happening is when you take these stair steps, you're getting momentum.
And the momentum is coming from who you're becoming.
And in order for you to be coming, this person, there has to be a standard in place.
These mini goals, these annual goals, these stair steps are opportunities to set new standards.
So the new approach I want you to think of is when you see that vision, what is a standard that would have to be in place in order for that person to have that happen, for that to be true for them?
What's the standard?
Because the standard is probably going to illustrate something you need to do consistently.
And so rather than coming up with arbitrary annual goals or quarterly goals or weekly goals or whatever,
you can now break this down so much more easily into something that would need to become true about you today,
so that a larger truth can become true about you in 20 years.
So how you approach the standards for who you're becoming is what will give you the instruction manual for achieving your vision in the future.
And the best part is the manual is going to change.
Life's going to change.
Things are going to evolve.
There's going to be a fork in the road and suddenly something you thought you wanted is going to be a little bit different.
And you're just going to have this happen.
And with that clear vision, you can be able to say, okay, I can work with this pivot.
I can see why this is the case.
The world is changing.
Money is changing.
Technology is changing.
Everything is changing.
So you can pivot and not be thrown off enormously and thinking, oh, it's just impossible because you keep the vision at hand.
And the vision is never, that's never going to happen, or like, I can't believe you think that, or whatever those negative canned responses have been,
because you know you can point back to your current short-term goals and how they contribute to the standards of a person that you're working toward.
So first, you're going to decide what you want to be true for you in 20 years.
Then you're going to get the right tools on your side, like ActiveCampaign, to connect and provide value for people.
You're going to prepare your canned responses, not just digitally, but in person for those moments when you know cheering for someone else is actually a great reflection of how well you can cheer for your own self.
And you're going to choose the actionable goals that indicate the standard you're setting for the person you're becoming.
The amount this will change you will shake the earth.
This mindset shift will do it all.
And it will absolutely lead to a big life because not only will you have that vision, you'll be so open to the process.
The most insane things that you never could have imagined about yourself will come true.
And if you like the idea of setting unrealistic goals because you now have the audacity to think big, I have a great video for you to check out right here.
