Let's turn to Manchester United talking about an evolution of the squad and Marcus Rashford.
Everybody now knows he wants to go, but will he?
Marcus Rashford is a major problem at Manchester United because he's not playing. Let's see what
happens today. But the fact that he hasn't been training in recent days suggests he's going to be
out of the picture yet again. He did come into the matchday squad for the Newcastle game,
but maybe that was because of a lack of bodies. Manchester United are open to his exit. He,
judging by his public comments, is open to it as well, which is potentially a very sorry ending for
a homegrown boy who's come through their academy, done such great things for them, and is an immense
talent. But things have gone wrong, clearly. Ruben Amorim has wiped the slate clean for all players.
He's judging them by the same standards on and off the pitch, and he clearly feels Marcus Rashford's
training performance and maybe even his attitude are not up to scratch. There has been scrutiny
over his social life. That is something that Marcus Rashford's camp strenuously
deny. But what are the options? In January, it's going to be very difficult. He signed
a massive contract in 2023 that goes on to 2028. He earns in excess of £325,000 a week. Who is
going to be prepared to take that on? I'm told that reports of offers being turned down from
Saudi Arabia are not really accurate. Saudi have pushed back on that and said there are no offers.
There have been reports of a swap deal with Viktor Osman if he was brought back to Napoli
from Galatasaray, but I think that's going to be very complicated if at all possible.
The door is still open at Manchester United for him to re-establish himself,
but his levels are going to have to come up to satisfy Ruben Amorim. If a departure is going to
happen, a sale in particular, maybe it's more likely in the summer, but it would represent
pure profit, something we hear about so much because he was an academy graduate in the same
way that Kobi Mainu might be. He's out of contracts in 2027, no news on a new deal.
Alejandro Gannaccio too. I don't think anybody in that bracket is off the table. Who is,
is somebody like Lenny Yoro, like Ahmad Diallo. I think they are untouchable. In terms of Amorim,
Manchester United's hierarchy, they fully support him. They back him to lead this
transformation of the club. They know there's going to be pain. It could get worse before it
gets better, but they're backing him to be at the heart of it. It's not a good time for Marcus
Rashford or Manchester United, but that doesn't mean to say some solutions can't be found in
January or definitely in the summer. Wow, a swap deal for Osman would be quite the deal.
David Ornstein, as always, thank you so much.
