Hello everyone, and welcome to Let's Speak Korean.
I'm your host, Lisa Kelley.
And of course, next to me is our wonderful friend, Steve Revere.
안녕하세요.
저는 스티븐입니다.
Wonderful to be with you all again to teach you more Korean.
Okay, and of course, we can't leave out our wonderful students, Miriam and Jason.
Hello Lisa.
Hello Steve.
안녕하세요.
저는 미람입니다.
안녕하세요.
저는 제이슨입니다.
I'm looking forward to another day of learning more Korean.
Great.
Well, Stephen, I'm very impressed.
You are a man of your word.
That's right.
I'm here on time.
I know you were talking about how I was late last time.
No, no.
I'm on time.
Okay, and that's...
But I do have a small problem.
What's going on?
I can't seem to find my cell phone.
Your cell phone?
Yes.
Could you guys help out?
Mr. Unorganized.
Under the table.
There it is.
Under the table.
Okay, now, Mr. Unorganized and tardy.
Okay, enough of this.
Let's go and check out what expressions we're going to learn today.
Let's do it.
꽃이 어디에 있어요?
책상 위에 있어요.
All right.
Well, you know, these days I'm actually suffering from shortness of breath.
어디에 있어요?
Which means, where is it?
어디 is where.
Okay?
어디에 있어요?
Would you like to try it out?
어디에 있어요?
Yes, and I'm sure you may have guessed from our awkward introduction there that we're
talking about prepositions of place as well, right?
Under the table, on the table.
So first of all, in the introduction I would have said, 제 휴대폰이 어디 있어요?
Well, where's my cell phone?
Right.
And we were trying to force the situation there earlier just to give you an example,
and I'm afraid we're just such bad actors.
So awkward.
Sorry.
Going back to what Stephen said.
휴대폰이 어디에 있어요?
It means, where is my cell phone?
So to answer this, we need to learn all the on, under, beside, you know, and next to.
So let's try these out.
탁자 is table.
탁자 위에 있어요.
위에 is on top of, or on.
Okay, let's try them out.
탁자 위에 있어요.
Right, it means on top of the table.
탁자 아래 있어요.
It means under.
탁자 아래 있어요.
Okay, 탁자 옆에 있어요.
It means next to the table.
탁자 옆에 있어요.
And under.
All right, so obviously we're learning where things are today, so we need to learn first
how to ask.
어디에 있어요?
If you say this, it means where is it?
어디 means where.
Okay?
어디에 있어요?
Try that once.
어디에 있어요?
Right?
Okay, and then the hard part is, you've got to throw the object in the front.
In other words, if you're looking for your cell phone, which is 휴대폰, 폰, 폰,
not bad, you'd say 휴대폰이 어디 있어요?
Okay, well we found it for you earlier.
All right, and we found his cell phone under the table, but we'll do that last.
Let's go, let's start with on top of the table.
탁자 means table, 탁자 위에 있어요.
It's on top of the table.
탁자 위에 있어요.
Good, and how about next to the table?
탁자 옆에 있어요.
Okay, behind the table, 탁자 뒤에 있어요.
탁자 뒤에 있어요.
Underneath the table, 탁자 아래 있어요.
탁자 아래 있어요.
And in front of the table, 탁자 앞에 있어요.
탁자 앞에 있어요.
And finally, next to the table, 탁자 옆에 있어요.
탁자 옆에 있어요.
타자 옆에 있어요.
Okay, great.
That's a lot to worry about, isn't it?
Here, let me give you a couple.
You have to make sure and differentiate between 앞에, which means in front, 앞에 있어요,
in front, and 옆에, next to, 옆에 있어요.
Remember that.
Remember to differentiate between those two.
And people worry a little bit, 아래 means under, 아래에 있어요 is the original
way to write it down, but people don't really pronounce it that way.
They usually just say 아래에 있어요.
You put two of the same vowel next to each other, they usually just get mashed together,
right?
아래에 있어요.
Okay, well let's practice, put this into real use, okay?
Let's ask where is the cup.
컵이 어디에 있어요?
Try it out.
Yeah, my cup.
There's my coffee cup.
Lisa's coffee cup.
컵이 어디에 있어요?
컵이 닥자 앞에 있어요.
This is our 닥자.
And it's 앞에, it's in front of the table.
Good, Mary.
Jason, where is it now?
컵이 어디에 있어요?
컵이 닥자 위에 있어요.
위에 있어요.
Great, it's on top of the table.
Alright, somewhere else.
컵이 어디에 있어요?
닥자 옆에 있어요.
Very good.
It's next to, beside.
지금은요.
닥자, 컵이 어디에 있어요?
컵이 닥자 아래에 있어요.
It's underneath the table.
And finally, 컵이 어디에 있어요?
닥자 뒤에 있어요.
Or in my mouth.
Great, great job.
Just practice these a little bit.
That's my coffee, thank you.
And let's review what we learned in Wrap It Up.
사과가 어디 있어요?
냉장고에 있어요.
연필이 어디에 있어요?
필통에 있어요.
In the animation, we got to review what we kind of learned.
We said, where is the apple?
And we said it was in the refrigerator.
And we also saw, where is the pencil?
And the answer was, it's in the pencil case.
That's right, 사과.
But I think he was supposed to say,
사과가 냉장고 안에 있어요.
And 연필은 필통 안에 있어요.
Right, because we learned in.
But in both sentences, he was missing the 안에 part.
Right, yes.
Very good, our wonderful students.
We actually didn't go over in.
In is 안에.
We didn't go over that yet.
안에 있어요 means to be inside of something.
You could say, 냉장고 안에 있어요.
But it's not necessary.
When something is in something like a refrigerator or something like that,
they just say, 냉장고에 있어요.
You don't have to worry so much.
Don't forget, we learned two words.
Refrigerator.
냉장고.
And apple.
사과.
Very good.
That's great.
One last time, what we learned today.
어디에 있어요?
Where is it?
어디에 있어요?
Okay, let's say on top of the table.
탁자 위에 있어요.
Well, I hope you keep these in mind
and do practice them before you come back next time
and we'll have a better and more satisfying show
ready for you next time.
Thank you for being here again.
Thank you.
Thanks.
Okay, bye-bye.
See you next time.
Bye-bye.
