Hello TP
Nestled in the heart of Central Asia, Kazakhstan boasts breathtaking mountain ranges and pristine
slopes. Skiing in Kazakhstan offers an authentic, unknown experience that's hard to find elsewhere
and with better value for money than a lot of European locations, this country is becoming a top
destination for skiing enthusiasts. Let us know if you'd like to hit the slopes in Kazakhstan
The mountains of Kazakhstan, including the Tian Shan and Altai ranges,
dominate the landscape with their majestic summits soaring into the heavens.
With elevations reaching over 7,000 meters, these snow-capped peaks create a picturesque
panorama that will leave you breathless and provide an awe-inspiring backdrop for an
unforgettable skiing experience. The region experiences rather cold winters,
creating ideal conditions for powder skiing. With an average annual snowfall of over 4 meters,
you'll find yourself floating effortlessly down the slopes, leaving behind your tracks in the
untouched snow. Not many are aware of the fresh powder in Kazakhstan, but the country is experiencing
growth in powder-seeking visitors. The best skiing conditions are often between December
and early March. One of the biggest frustrations for skiers and snowboarders is the long wait in
queues and overcrowded slopes that can sometimes take away from the pure joy of gliding down the
mountain. But fear not, because in Kazakhstan's ski resorts you'll find a refreshing escape from
the hustle and bustle. One of the best-kept secrets about skiing in Kazakhstan is the abundance of
space and the absence of large crowds. Even during peak times and weekends at the most popular
resorts, you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised by the lack of queues. Now you may wonder which
ski resort should I visit in Kazakhstan? The obvious answer is Shimbulak Ski Resort,
located in the northernmost section of Central Asia's Tian Shan mountain system.
There are other smaller ski resorts in the country, but Shimbulak Ski Resort is by far
the largest and most modern of them all. From its humble beginnings to hosting royalty and
Soviet Olympic athletes, Shimbulak has a rich history that adds to its allure. Notably,
it has attracted thrill-seekers and even caught the attention of Prince Harry.
While Shimbulak may be smaller in size compared to renowned destinations worldwide,
it more than compensates with its exceptional offerings. The resort's roughly eight slopes,
stretching over 20 kilometers, provide the perfect playground for skiers of all levels.
Beginners will find solace in the four kilometers wide and gentle slopes, creating an ideal
environment for stress-free and enjoyable descents. Skiers and snowboarders with an
intermediate level can enjoy 10 kilometers of slopes, while advanced riders can challenge
themselves on the toughest six kilometers of slopes. As you navigate the breathtaking slopes,
you'll appreciate the resort's modern facilities and amenities. Shimbulak proudly boasts rental
shops, terrace bars, restaurants, alpine chalets and a tiny snow park. Additionally,
English-speaking ski instructors are available for those eager to learn or enhance their skills
on the mountain. Although many ski resorts in Kazakhstan may be small, they provide access to
incredible backcountry skiing opportunities. Kazakhstan stands out as one of the premier
destinations for backcountry skiing. It boasts breathtaking landscapes, minimal crowds,
reliable snow conditions and remarkable affordability. You'll find a range of guided
ski tours tailored to various budgets and experience level. These tours primarily take
place in the Alatau ski regions near Almaty and the Kazakh Altai in the eastern part of the country.
Kazakhstan ski tours encompass a wide spectrum, ranging from half-day excursions near popular
resorts to multi-day wilderness adventures. Backcountry yurts are a favored form of
accommodation, providing an authentic and cozy setting for evenings spent between days of
exploration. It doesn't get more authentic than living in a yurt in the mountains.
Another benefit of skiing in Kazakhstan is the price. Compared to most other ski regions in
the world, Kazakhstan is extremely affordable. A one-day ski pass on weekdays for adults will
cost you around 11 British pounds, which is roughly 14 US dollars. On weekends, it's 17 pounds.
In the Alps, a one-day ski pass costs on average 39 pounds or 48 US dollars. If you want to rent
out equipment at the ski resort, it's between 9 and 16 pounds a day. That's a massive difference
compared to ski resorts in Europe or North America. Skiing in Kazakhstan definitely won't
break the bank. The overall cost of living is also lower compared to many western countries.
This means that not only will you find affordable ski options, but you may also
enjoy lower prices for food, transportation, and other expenses during your trip.
You will also save money on drinks, since the concept of apres-ski is not widely embraced in
Kazakhstan. The majority of mountain bars close well before sundown, and the options for continuing
the party within the ski resorts are limited. It's all about skiing. If you're someone who enjoys the
post-ski excitement, you'll probably have to venture beyond the resorts to the nearest town.
However, it's important to note that you shouldn't expect to find lively establishments with shot
skis, lodge-themed bars, or skiers dancing on tables in their leg warmers. So what are you
waiting for? Unleash your adventurous spirit and embark on a journey to the mountains of Kazakhstan,
where extraordinary skiing adventures await. Thank you for watching. Remember to like and
