As I make my way into the Monashee mountains, the rough roads take a toll on my bike...
It's being held on by one bolt
My journey begins at North America's most northern drivable point
The plan is to ride through Canada and America before crossing over to Europe from there
I'll make my way across Asia and down to Australia
New Zealand's southern most drivable point will mark the end of my journey
I'm calling it the big spiral and this is act three across North America
So there's been a change of plans so as you may have seen in my last video I was in Alberta
I lost my license plate and I had to drive into BC to the nearest town three hours away a
town called Valemont
so I'm like a couple mountain ranges over from where I was and
And I've been thinking well
It doesn't make a lot of sense to drive all the way back to do the Rocky Mountains along the Alberta BC border
And there's a lot of great mountains here in BC. So here let me show you in the map what I got planned
so what I'm gonna do is drive south from Valemont and
just past
Blue River I can go into the mountains here
and I saw there's like a road that goes really high in the mountains here and
It seems like there's maybe a mine or something
So I'm just gonna go in there and check it out
it looks really cool and then I'm gonna head down all the way down here to the north end of Adams Lake and
then I'll go across to Seymour Arm and
Then I'm not sure where I'm gonna exit, but probably I don't even know how to say that Crag-a-la-chee
Crag-a-la-chee and
Maybe end up in Revelstoke. To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what's all in the area
But I'm kind of excited for it and to be honest, I'm a little more excited than the Alberta route
Maybe it's just because I'm from BC. I don't know but to me it seems like a lot more rugged unexplored area
Whereas the Alberta side is I think
You know, it's it's it's literally called a highway. Whereas I'm gonna be riding for service roads and logging roads all day. So
Yeah, for me, this is gonna be a little bit more of adventure
So maybe this whole license plate thing is gonna turn out to be to be a positive. So anyways, let's get going
I have about a hundred kilometers to do before I get to the gravel
All right
Let's head south from Vail Mount
Oh God, shift it
So
I'm gonna head to Blue Lake and fill up on gas and then a couple K after Blue Lake is the turn off
For the FSR that I gotta hop on to and go for a bit of explore
But oh my god, what a beautiful day for it. It's not a cloud in the sky
No smoke
Today feels like a no-pressure day for me because I know if I just go into the bush they're
Interesting things are gonna happen. I'm gonna see beautiful things
Cuz you know some days are like
Okay, I'm gonna ride across this area. That doesn't seem like a lot going on. I gotta find something to
one entertain myself with
but also
Entertain you with but today's just a lot of back roads logging roads
and
I'm pretty excited. It's
Yeah up this one road. I don't know. It just it looks like it goes right into the Alpine
But I've no idea what awaits me. So
Look at that glacier up there. I don't even know what about that is, but
Sure is cool
my gas light just came on and I still like
I might have to go back to Vailmont. I thought I should be at least be able to get
500k, but it's not looking good
58 kilometers
31 kilometers I
Have to turn around
Yeah, I don't have like I'll explain let me just turn around
This bike doesn't give you a distance till empty
So you just have to go the mileage and I figured I could get 500k, but I guess I did all this highway
If I keep going as possible, I'll run out of gas if I go back to Vailmont, then I'll
Okay
Go back to Vailmont I have a better chance of getting gas
I knew I should have filled up. I was just being lazy. I was like, oh, I just want to fill up once
Yeah, there's no fuel gauge is just a light when it's low so like on your car
You'll have like a little gauge give you you know, three quarters full one quarter. This is just difficult by mileage
so I think on fancier bikes, you'll have like a
number of kilometers you can do but I
Don't have a fancy bike
All right, I made it I
Got 19 liters and the tank is 18. So yeah, I don't think I would have made it to Blue River. I
Got lucky I think any further I would have run out of gas
All right, here's our turn off
Time to climb
This road is pretty fun
It's trying to get some views already
That mountain the glacier hanging off of it on that nobody drives here this bridge
Yeah
Plates still on still on good. All right back to the main road
Well, I'm getting down to the river now boats across it
BC I love you BC. I haven't seen a single person on this road yet
This road is amazing
According to my map
There's a big lake down to the left. I have not seen it yet. It's a river from Blake. Oh
It's a dead end Oh
Close to landslide. Oh
I really wanted to go up there
Closer to the last night. Yes, it's clear. I don't think you need the sign. Oh
Oh, it's
Could maybe drag the bike through here, but oh
Yeah, it would be a mission to get the bike through here
I'm sure
You see those hard Enduro guys, you know
That's this is what they would love to do
I don't think I'm good enough to go through here
So I saw the map that this road goes really high and I was like, oh it looks amazing
This is where I want it. This is the one fork I wanted to do
But I guess not
So I guess we're gonna keep going south then
Man, if I was a better rider, I could probably get through this but I'm not a better, right?
Okay, well that's disappointing I guess I've got to turn around then
All right. Well, I want to go look at the lake then
Because it's here and I'm a little bit hungry and the lake I think will be a good spot to have
lunch
although it's a little late for lunch, but
There's a little
road here
Down to the lake
And a picnic table
Perfect
So now we're heading south
So there's a bunch of lakes along this river
so the river is called Adams River and we're gonna head to
We're just gonna pass by a lake called Adams Lake
And we'll head to a place
Called
Seymour Arm
Looks like a tiny little community. I have no idea anything about it
Yeah, and it seems like they might even have gas there
You knew what you wanted and you fought so hard
Just to find yourself sitting in a golden cage
Left turn
My case is moved
No
My case moved, okay
It's being held on by one bolt. I thought I heard something rattling
But the bike often rattles, so I was like I'll ride over
And I also wear these noise cancelling earbuds, so I don't hear a lot. I'm just because I want to protect my hearing
Maybe I should take this case off
It's I'm still in my shakedown phase at some point this bike is going to become bulletproof
You know what I do have
These bolts on my license plate. I
Do have those
That might solve my problem actually
This thing doesn't want to come off so easy
Thing is both both halves are moving so it's hard to get them to line up
Come on little guy
There we go
So here's a problem
There's I have four bolts
Holding this plate, so this is like adapter plate which attaches to the case
I have four bolts and
Two of them are completely missing. I have this one, but all the hardware underneath it. It's gone and
This one is still holding true so now
I might have lucked out because these
might fit in those holes
Alright, let's take the license plate off the thing is I locked headed them, so
It's not gonna come off so easily
This one's moving
Okay, so will they fit in the hole?
They fit in the top hole, but not the bottom one
That sucks
Okay, maybe
Maybe I can just zip tie the whole thing down
Maybe that's the solution here. I
Have lots of zip ties. Okay, I put this back
It's just all the vibrations it's just so hard on all the things
like the bike itself should be able to handle it, but
Everything I've done to it a bit of a question so I
Was having so much fun on that road, too
And whenever I'm having fun the bikes like not too much too much fun to be had
Watch these zip ties. They're gonna last like hundreds of
kilometers
I've always worried about this because it's like a lot of leverage in that
The box is fairly heavy because it's got all my
computer stuff in it I
Think the setup is okay. I just need to lock tight everything
I think that's the key with the vibrations is lock tight
five per side maybe
Nice them to cut these holes in this plate. I
Don't think they were meant to be used like this though
One two, three, four five. Okay one more on this side
Got to keep it got to keep the hack balanced
man
It's on there pretty good now
All right, let's put this case back on. Let's see
Lots of dirt, oh it's fouling now, but if I force it it should go on
The problem is there is a
spacers in the bolts
So lift the plate up a little bit off the the mounting surface and now the spacers are gone. So it's fouling
More leverage
It's on oh
I'm glad there's no bugs out
All right
So I don't think I'm gonna make it the Seymour arm
today
and I don't even sure if I should try to go there, but
just the lake is just over here Adams Lake and
I looked at my map. There's two rec sites on the lake and
How's that doing back there?
So far so good
So, yeah, I'm just gonna camp there tonight cuz yeah, it's already six o'clock I think so
By the time I get to any town like I'm still a ways out, you know, I'm in the middle of nowhere here so I
Just want to go fast but
All my computer and camera stuff is being held on with zip ties right now, so it's maybe
Better to take her easy
But yeah, my past experience with zip ties with the license plate couldn't even hold the license plate on so
Well, we'll see how it goes
All right, there's a lake and I think there should be a rec site
That it
Still in the Sun a little bit nice I smell smoke
Someone parked here already
I guess there's
One site
Maybe that's alright
Well as usual things always go a bit wrong
but they also go right as well and
There's a great day in the mountains and my neighbors here are actually super friendly
They gave me some tips on what to ride tomorrow
It sounds fairly advanced and so I'm not sure if I can do it because of the situation with my case
but
I'll try my best to see if I can do it sounds like it heads up into the Alpine and it's pretty pretty epic trail
so
But anyways, thanks for watching and hopefully I'll see you in the next video
