Tina, the tiny turtle, saves the day.
Tina the turtle was the smallest in her pond.
She was kind, curious and careful.
But the bigger animals often ignored her.
You're too tiny to help, the ducks would quack.
Too slow to matter, the frogs would croak.
Tina didn't argue, she just kept being kind.
One hot summer day, the stream that fed the pond stopped flowing.
The water got lower and the pond animals grew worried.
We need to find out what's blocking the stream, said Gary the goose.
But who can get through all the thorny bushes, the beavers asked.
Tina took a breath.
I can try.
The others stared.
You?
Tina nodded.
I'm small enough to fit.
So she crawled carefully through the bushes, under brambles and over pebbles,
until she found the problem, a pile of fallen branches blocking the stream.
She pushed and nudged and slowly pulled the smallest ones loose.
Water began to trickle, then flow, then rush.
Back at the pond, the water returned, cool and clear.
The animals cheered as Tina waddled back, tired but smiling.
You may be small, said Gary the goose, but your heart is big.
What is the moral of this story?
No act of help is too small.
Sometimes the littlest ones make the biggest difference.
