And Soto fouled out his first
time up the door at second with
one out and Soto takes a slider
down ball one let's check in
with Steve Gelb Steve Gary last
night we documented how Juan
Soto is getting exponentially
better every time he sees a
starting pitcher throughout the
course of a game each passing
time and you know it's not by
accident the improvement
obviously he's got a lot of
natural talent can take a lot
of information in with what he
is seeing and transmit it to his
next at bats but in between at
bats when he's not in the field
he will go down into the tunnel
he will look at video trying to
figure out what pitchers are
trying to do to him and then he
will sometimes go into the cage
and actually take batting
practice during the game working
on specific things really.
Yeah.
And Jeremy Barnes the hitting
coach he likened him actually to
J.D. Martinez what we saw from
him last year very proactive with
his at bats during games of
course the difference is J.D.
Martinez was a D.H. Soto does
this will also play in the
field.
Well it's interesting it's a
different world and that curve
ball balloons up by three and one
to Soto with Alonzo on deck.
He is having issues with his
secondary pitches especially the
curve ball he's living up high
and that slider gear which I
thought was a change up.
He's missing the low with it.
So as a hitter OK he's not
getting his breaking ball over.
I'm sitting on the fastball
rainwater Soto and he checks the
swing takes a strike three to
Steve he's still with us.
Yes I'm here.
Yeah I'm wondering when you talk
to Jeremy Barnes about that are
there other position players who
take swings during the game.
Yeah they're playing the field.
There are.
But I don't think anybody I
shouldn't say I don't think
anybody but it sounds like this
is something that Soto does more
consistently than others.
I asked Lindor about it he said
he you know it's not part of his
routine but this is something
they've noticed from Soto from
day one.
This is a part of his daily
routine.
He will go down in the cage
during the games and take some
constant hacks usually it's the
D.H. is that that go in and try
to do they don't go out in the
field and stay active to blast
one out to right back goes
Hernandez he takes a look and
it's out of here.
One Soto with a two run homer is
a limit for the year to get the
Mets back within a run five
straight games with an extra
base hit for Soto this one a two
run homer into the pavilion.
Well whatever he did between the
first and second at bat paid off
handsomely.
Yes it did.
And he got a fastball here three
and two count and it's right down
Broadway.
And he almost went down to a knee
on that swing.
Number nine Brandon Demo.
