Not what I expected in Canada's pristine Rocky Mountains... 🇨🇦 | S1E40

Oh my god, what's going on here? Super scary Oh boy Yeah, it's like an office I guess Yeah, someone important because they got the bed just over there And then the office here I feel like I'm in a video game. I should find some important documents My journey begins at North America's most northern drivable point The plan is to ride through Canada and America before crossing over to Europe from there I'll make my way across Asia and down to Australia New Zealand's southern most drivable point will mark the end of my journey I'm calling it the big spiral and this is act three across North America Good morning So today i've got some pretty interesting plans That I don't know if they're going to work out but in it involves glaciers and the rocky mountains Let me show you what i've been up to and what the plan is for today So last time I updated the map I was in Seymour Arm And what I did is I went something like this I think and then I went up this mountain and went down This way to near Sycamuse. So today i'm going to head towards Revelstoke up past Glacier National Park And then towards Golden, but I won't go all the way to Golden So instead i'm going to go up here up this valley Towards the Rocky Mountains and right around here is the Columbia Glacier Now normally you'd have to go into the National Park to see the Columbia Glacier But you can actually see it from the BC side So the thing about going to the Columbia Glacier from the BC side Is that it's not in the National Park so I can fly my drone and as you might know, I really like flying my drone I Love to get really cool shots and things So I think if I go to the BC side, I'll have an opportunity to get some pretty amazing shots So yeah I think it'll be a lot more of an adventure And it'll be an angle that you don't usually get to see of the Columbia Glacier And for those that don't know the Columbia Ice Field is the largest ice field in the Rocky Mountains It's really really really massive. So I'm, really excited to check it out and i'm really excited to see this kind of unique angle All right So now heading to Revi If you remember in my last video I had a little issue the case I have not fixed it yet I haven't fixed it yet. So I need to uh, I'm gonna go to a hardware store in Revelstoke and uh Fix it there. It should just be a couple bolts and And things like that so it shouldn't be too hard, but Busy today, well, I guess this is highway one goes all the way across Canada Oh, yeah, maybe it's my turn now And so the other reason I kind of want to check out this Columbia Ice Field from the BC side Is because there's that wildfire in Jasper That we saw a couple videos ago And basically because of that wildfire everything on the highway is closed So you can't really stop anywhere if you you can drive the highway But all the pull-offs to seal the sites, they're all closed At least that's how it was when I drove through Jasper so Yeah, uh, it'll be cool to be able to see from the BC side from a unique angle And actually be able to stop and have a look. So All right entering Revelstoke If you like to do anything outside This is probably the place to do it this is You know, it's kind of out there. It's surrounded by massive mountains And uh, and the mountain biking is absolutely amazing here but now I'm going to the hardware store Which is I have no idea where it is actually Uh, but i'll find it Oh There it is All right that turned out to be a bit of a mission uh So when I took everything apart, I found two more problems That I had to fix and so it took a bit of time sorry, I didn't film it because it's just Sometimes things get a little stressful when you start working on stuff and uh All your mental energy has to go into like figuring out the problem but uh, we're good now and we can get going so Let's head on towards golden over rogers pass fairly fairly famous pass here really high Pretty amazing views up there Oh my god, what's going on here? Super scary Oh, i'm glad to get out of that tunnel, holy man You're kind of trapped in there if there's Someone comes tearing in and crashes into the row of cars And I guess this is the cause of it accident scene well Someone's having a bad day. That's for sure All right, we've left the highway I hit it was a beautiful one at that And it rogers passes. That is one of the the best Drives I get in north america. It's got to be And now we're heading up this valley Rocky mountains to the right of us really curious to see what's up here just poking around on uh google earth and it just it looks just epic up here, so Chatter creek All these rec sites, oh, isn't that awesome So bc is so awesome for its rec sites like, uh in alberta yukon They have campsites, but they're all paid but bc Just is covered in these recreation sites, which is basically straight to gravel awesome It's basically just free camping And the way I think it works is because we have so much logging in bc You know the logging companies are taking out a lot of value from the province So I think one of the things they do to give back is to create these rec sites And if you saw that sign, I don't know whether it was there seven or eight just down this road Perfect for an outdoor type person, you know So yeah, i'm gonna head to a rec site. It's a little late in the day And uh tomorrow morning we're gonna head into some of these really Majestic, you know deep cut valleys glacier cut valleys I think the camp rec sites down here. Oh, it's a popular one And I can see why it's popular This is cool All right, it's the next morning let's go find some glaciers And in fact, i've already found one right over there I think there's at least two or three up there But we're looking for bigger glaciers than that and I think that's on the other side of the valley this way so Let's get going All right, I gotta escape my little island here little boat there This morning i've already heard even before got light out there's Sounded like logging trucks Going by so Gotta be careful That looks dusty over there All right pretty gravelly There's my first logging truck, oh boy Oh boy I think i've come to the right spot Surprise truck So many trucks All right, I think I Not on a logging truck road anymore. It doesn't look as well used But it should be a little safer now Big yellow thing over there. Let's go have a look. It's like an abandoned camp Wow Okay, I have to have a look right? Mattress there Oh, it's really Kind of collapsing Yeah, the roof is starting to cave in it's all soaked in the water Lots of mouse crap. Oh, there's even a coke machine In here it's funny all the doors are like as if they're freezers I'm not sure if it makes any sense to do this. But yeah, even from the inside you have this push button Oh someone got all the coke out already I wonder if this was a mining camp or logging I think someone ripped out that ac machine in there. There's There's someone squatting in here firewood. Oh, this must be the kitchen Broken plates dishwasher cooker Baking soda anybody looks like it's still Still got some in there Oh, it's still full even It's brand new baking soda What a mess like it's just Completely Actually, I just realized So I just realized that each side of this is a portable and then they just used a bit of metal to make a roof Very cheaply built This must be someone important's room because it's got a bigger bed in it and its own toilet Yeah, it's like an office I guess Yeah, someone important because they got the bed just over there And then the office here I feel like i'm in a video game. I should find some important documents Oh, what year is this Is this calendar Oh 20 2004 Okay, so it's not that old it's about 20 years old in here it's kind of sad that this didn't get hauled out of here, but I think often what happens in these cases is that The company goes bankrupt And then it's just the government or whatever that's stuck with cleaning up and I imagine that's probably what happened because otherwise they would have been made to clean everything up Yeah Even a big propane tank here makes you wonder if it's That sounds pretty empty Looks like there was a logo there at some point a couple outhouses over there Whoever cut that window Did not cut it square looks like they didn't even finish the building to be honest they built it and then Just gave up Yeah, the whole floor's rotted out. There was never a roof on here it's a funny thing, you know, like If it's old enough it becomes interesting If it's too new, it's basically garbage So yeah this from 20 From 2004.
