Somebody's downstairs doing her morning recording.
Happy morning! I'm a little tired today. How did I put makeup on this morning?
I didn't. I decided to get a permanent tattoo on my eyes. Eyeliner. And I am
loving every minute of it. Is this supposed to last about three years?
We'll see. Good morning from day four. We stayed at the most
lovely little albergue, Casa Matriz. This place we stayed in was lovely. Not
the best sleep because I was really hot last night.
I love to live in this house. It's a castle. Rita, the lady that owns it, is
amazing. She left us these little shells. Today I
think it's going to be a little shorter because we're both really tired. I'm
looking forward to the next walking. We're going to tie these
onto our pack. We get these little trinkets
at a lot of the places so we're going to start tying them on our pack. It's a
beautiful day. This is just really incredible so far.
Getting to share it with the lady holding the camera there
makes it all the better. I'm looking forward to seeing the route we're taking
and how we're going to hit the road. Catch you a little later. Off we head into day four
following a girl with a shell and a frog hat.
Such an amazing experience already. I've probably said that a million times.
It just keeps getting better really. We got the last hotel room in all of
Pavoa de Varstim apparently and then we just happened
on this albergue that turned out to be absolutely incredible.
She was so sweet. I'm just, I'm blown away.
All over Portugal they absolutely love their ceramic tile and they are really
good at it. Cobblestones and ceramic tile. It's pretty
but not always fun to walk on. So many gorgeous flowers of all different
types all along the walks but look at that
gorgeous flower right there. It's our first show of the day.
Bone coming. This steel bridge is from 1892 and it's still going strong.
This is the most beautiful purple morning glory.
It's already getting toasty warm and it's only 9 a.m so good thing we did not
hang around too long this morning before we got started.
Don't forget to like and subscribe.
We have seen more beagles here. They're adorable. The single most popular
dog in this area is a beagle. At least 60 percent of the
dogs we've seen have been beagles. And then a mix of other stuff. You can hear
the beagles all over. Currently walking to Esposende
just north of Pavoa de Varstim. There are two routes for the Camino through here. One goes
through town and the other one skirts around the coastline.
We've taken the coastline skirting route and it was a really good choice.
Beautiful boardwalk. The scenery just keeps getting better.
Esposende looks like a pretty neat little place to check out. And then you
turn a corner and you're back on a cobblestone road
next to a eucalyptus and pine forest. Gotta look all over for the little arrows
because sometimes they're almost hidden but they're always there.
It's gorgeous but as we've probably mentioned a few times the cobblestones
are a bit brutal. I got a little overheated today and
Chris is carrying my pack a little bit. He's so sweet.
I don't believe I have ever seen a more varied mix of two-wheeled motorized
vehicles traveling together. Looks like they were having fun. And of
course there's always one car trying to cut in the middle.
Been going about two and a half hours. Time for a foot break.
And to try to dry out my shirt a little bit break. These old walls could be a
hundred or a thousand years old. This is such an epic experience.
That little white dog over there is a legend. Katie saw it and said oh look at
that little guy. And then he developed a limp to walk down the road to us. I look
up at him with these sad eyes. Now he doesn't have a limp again. Smart
dog. We have breaking news. Continuing on this
episode of A Thousand Ways to Die in Europe.
I just heard something go. I turned around and this huge snake
had come out at me and tried to stab at me. He
went back into his hole. There are two venomous snakes in Portugal.
One of them is Soane's Viper. We just looked it up and that is what just
struck at Katie. Holy ----. We won't be walking next to
that wall. The first guy wakes him up. The second guy makes him mad. The third
guy gets bit. Well I woke him up and he struck at Kate. So stay on your
toes around Portugal. To our Aussie friends.
Not the only ones. Somebody's looking out for us.
You can just stop here for free. It says walkers are welcome home to take a break,
have a drink, take a shower, or spend the night.
If we were ready to stop we would take them up on that but I think we still got
another hour or two left in our legs today.
Besides which, check out what we're walking through now. Gives you energy
just going through it. Something that's really cool is with the
topography and all of the scenery is changing so much
and then there's cool stuff. Two paths diverged in a yellow wood. Which one did
you choose? This one. This is beautiful. I wasn't
expecting this. I really wasn't expecting this forest
type walk. I thought it would be a lot more in
the city but this is incredible. It reminds me of
walks I used to take as a kid. I love it. Just when you think there's no
arrows, there are. I don't know why she's going off trail.
Watch for snakes. I had no idea that Portugal had these gorgeous
eucalyptus forests. They smell good. They're beautiful.
This is so amazing. Hey you. I love bridges. I was bent over
because it's hot walking up the hill and this
lady next in the house came over and said come come.
I'll give you water. You can rest here. Here's...
they filled this up. They were so sweet. Had a great talk to our French family
that moved here like 20 years ago. This is awesome. Another great Camino
experience. We've been coming up here for about two
miles. I'm hoping we're almost at the top. We
were all, oh this is great. Just skirting around here through these
valleys. Oh boy. It's nice and flat along the ocean they said.
It's gorgeous though. This is such an amazing experience all the way around.
The top of the hill is right there so we can't be going up much further.
Unauthorized rest break. I think it's authorized.
All right seriously. At this point the Camino is just taunting us. It's like hey
it gets a little higher over there. Go up there too. We got a little motivation
because this young person flew by us this morning. We just passed
them. That's pretty cool.
All right off we go. Oh tally ho.
Yeah. We are definitely heading downhill away from the peak.
What do you think about them downhills Katie? Love them.
Have a nice trip. See you next fall. Two paths diverge in a yellow. Wait a minute
that joke's getting old. This wild calla lily is brought to you for
my mom.
That's why sometimes walking uphill is awesome. What a view. Some of us can see
it. Some of us are too short.
Well you can see the video. Okay.
This is awesome. There's old chariot tracks here. This is an old Roman road.
Hey who's that up there? Bon Camino. That's another day down.
We walked from Fowl today. It was beautiful.
One of the best walks we've done so far. It was through the mountains
and all lots of little trails. It was beautiful. We stopped for lunch
about three o'clock and I was wrecked. And Chris
saw a little brochure on the walk. You'll see a whole bunch of people advertising
for places to stay. And he walked in but they
didn't have any. But the lady that we were having
her restaurant said oh her cousin had a place.
So we walked over there and we had the whole place to ourselves. There's one
other people, person, room. But it doesn't look like
there's gonna be anybody in it. And she's
letting us do our laundry. Really sweet. I'm gonna take a nap because
I am wrecked. It's a buen camino kind of dinner.
This is amazing. Catanga dos Sabores. Kate got an absolutely fantastic kebab
box. And this pizza is incredible. Portuguese
linguiça on their homemade bread crust. What do you think of your kebab?
Oh it's excellent. And coming home after dinner.
Yeah we got a great surprise. We've got the place all to ourselves tonight.
And our hostess is amazing.
Oh yeah we didn't really show you our place. Lights are off.
Dining room. Bedroom. 40 euros for the both of us. Good night.
Join us tomorrow when Katie almost dies. Oh wait that was today.
Well I'm sure tomorrow will be fine. Keep drinking this coffee.
Leave the thumbs up and subscribe. Oh no that was good.
That was good. That was good.
