I started this channel quite by accident, I was recording my games to do film study and get better. I did not have time or money for lessons from pro pickleball coach, so I started watching all my screwups. People that I was playing with started to ask if they could watch too and I said sure. That helped all of us a lot to improve our game, strategy, mental toughness, and techniques. Now we have new pickleball videos published several times a week. We occasionally have pro pickleball players on the channel. Mostly its non pro pickleball players on their quest to 5.0 pickleball. We have all levels come through the channel, but we concentrate on the 4.0 pickleball, 4.5 pickleball and up to 5.5 pickleball with the pros.
All right, everyone, welcome to our MLP event at the Crush Yard.
We are here.
This is my good friend, Scott.
Hello, Keith.
You guys know him from the channel.
This is Scott Graves.
He's one of my friends, and we're going to get started here.
On my right here, what's the teams we have over here on the right?
You got the ... Is that the Crush Yard Dog?
No, just Yard Dog.
Just the Yard Dogs.
Okay.
They're off to the races.
A little bit out.
So we got the Yard Dogs.
This is Brittany Levinich and Gianna Southwick, and we also have on the left side, we got
Ellie Kingsley and Valerie Simon.
You'll see the paddles they're playing on the right side here.
We got Brittany and Gianna.
They're playing the Agassi and the Bantam ALW.
Brittany's serving.
Brittany's serving here.
Oh, good rally there.
I think she's playing with the V.
The V?
I believe so.
Yep.
What do you think about that new Agassi paddle there, Keith?
I actually like it.
It needs a little bit of breaking in, like most of them.
A little bit of weight.
Oh.
Yep.
Brittany wants that one back a little bit.
We got, sorry, that was Gianna.
Brittany's playing the left side over here on the right.
Gianna delivering that ball here.
4-1.
I love how Gianna, when she hits her strokes, she gets down so low.
She really digs to get those balls.
Good patience by everybody here.
Oh, left that one a little high.
Oh, good speed up there.
Good speed up there.
Valerie couldn't get that one up there.
I mean, I think that was Ellie, right?
Ellie couldn't get that one back over.
Good serve by Gianna.
Good drop shot.
We've got a good rally going here.
Nobody's popped it up.
Yeah.
Very good defensive dinking.
Mm-hmm.
Oh, we've got an attack.
Ooh.
That's good.
And in the line.
There we go.
4-3.
We've got the yard dogs over here.
And then, sort of warmed up.
That's the team that we have over on the right in the black.
Sort of warmed up.
Thank you, BK, for that amazing name.
Ooh.
I think they were a little bit friendly with that line call.
Yeah, it was real close.
That's for sure.
Good reset.
Oh, there we go.
Valerie took that one home.
One kill to set up and then take it home.
5-3.
Now, once again, folks, we're playing rally scoring.
We're going to have a freeze at 20.
Just like normal MLP event rules.
And a freeze means that you have to win the final point while you are serving.
I think Brittany wants that one back a little bit.
Valerie serving.
Oh, that was Ellie.
Ellie serving.
I suck at this.
That's all right.
I played with Valerie this last week.
I came up to her and I said, so, you know, what college do you go to?
And she said, I don't go to college.
She's like, I'm still in high school.
Oh, man.
And I was like, I told her, I said, I thought you looked like you were 22 or 23.
And I've talked to multiple people and they said the same exact thing.
But she just is coming off from committing herself now more to pickleball.
And she's coming from playing tennis.
And she's a very, very solid player.
Played with her last week in the MLP we did at 2001.
And is she a tennis player in high school?
Yes.
Is she going to college for it?
I'm not really sure.
Drop shot there by Brittany.
Oh, Brittany went a little lefty there.
Brittany chunkered a little bit.
Yeah, just a little chunky.
7-5 here.
Could have warmed up in the lead.
This is Ellie serving.
Oh, that went out a little bit.
Kiana hit that a little bit out.
Come on the defensive here.
Great drop.
Oh, now that's a little sorry, not sorry.
Sorry, not sorry.
That is a C-O-N.
10-5 here.
10-5. Yard Dog's got to pick it up here a little bit.
Keep up.
Ellie with a good serve.
Great drive.
Yeah.
He's got a great drive.
Valerie, actually the lowest rated person on the court, but you really can't tell.
We're going to switch sides at 11-5.
I think the only reason for that is because she hasn't played in more rated tournaments.
EK is going to have, while we have this break, the coaches are out here talking to him.
We want to thank our sponsors.
Crush Yard is our sponsor here hosting this event.
We got 6-0 Pickleball, one of our sponsors.
And the Pickleball driller you saw at the beginning of the day here, really good tool
to just practice all the different types of shots in Pickleball.
And I want to thank ProDrive for donating all the bags, the hats and the glasses for these guys to play.
We love having great events here and we like bringing people along.
It's a really cool concept.
Personally, as a coach, I like having my players try to keep it as close to the net as possible.
I think this is a great tool to help you do that.
You kind of just get that height from the net to the kind of apex that you want to reach over the net.
So it's a really great practice tool.
I would definitely recommend that you go get one for yourself.
The Pickleball driller was awesome.
It helps keep your ball low, helps with dinking, helps with drop shots and speed ups.
Commanding lead here.
But in MLP, things can turn around very quickly.
Good resets there.
Fantastic resets.
Oh, Gianna got low for that, but sort of warmed up.
Definitely got a point there. 12-5.
Ellie is serving.
Oh!
That ball kind of bounced a little bit weird, didn't come up much.
Yard dogs are not looking good right now.
They need to get something going here.
That's a little bit of a gift.
Checks in the mail.
Christmas came early.
Alright, Gianna is serving.
Wow, what a great backhand drive there.
She's got a fantastic drive too.
You can see the tennis player really coming out on those shots.
Brittany was definitely in the right position there, she poached, but got it a little bit low.
Ellie is serving.
Oh, that looked out to me.
That looked out?
Are they going to give it to him?
I think it was just out.
Wow, they're giving it to him.
I would have called that one out for sure.
Yeah, but you are a cheater.
Oh my gosh, the worst cheater ever.
You can't trust those tall guys.
Really handsome, really super good looking ones too.
I don't know what happened there.
Oh, ball on court. Replay.
15 to 6.
Should have warmed up and a commanding lead at this particular point.
Packable ball.
Oh, good defense there.
Just a bit out.
I feel like yard dogs are playing a little bit tentative.
A little bit.
They're playing to not make mistakes, which is horrible to do when you're playing.
Oh man, that was a gift wrap.
Ellie serves it right into the net.
Gift wrap point here.
Let's see if we can get something going here. 7-16.
Brittany is serving.
For those of you who don't know, Brittany is a school teacher.
She teaches over on the coast in Florida.
Alright, Gianna tried to speed that up.
I think she's getting a little bit frustrated with herself.
17-7. They better put on the gas here.
I think Brittany was actually voted Teacher of the Year or something last year.
Well, with the many hours she puts into teaching, she probably doesn't have a whole lot of time to practice pickleball.
We actually see her a good bit.
A good attack. Gianna wasn't ready for it.
You know, the things we do to play pickleball.
Everybody out there watching can understand that completely.
That's good resets.
Good resets there. That was a great speed up by Gianna.
18-8. Let's see if they can build upon this. They need to get some points here.
Remind me again of what kind of ball the guys are playing.
What kind of ball they're playing with again today, Keith?
I do not know. Let me find out real quick.
Biocell, was it?
Biocell?
I think it's Biocell or something like that.
Uh-oh, they got one there.
Drips right over the net for a winner.
They're still 10 points down.
Thank you.
OK, to answer your question, they're playing with the Komodo Bio Ball.
This ball feels pretty stiff. I hear it gets soft pretty quickly.
So we'll see what the players say after the game.
I'd like to see their input on this ball.
Komodo.
Komodo Bio Ball.
Just out. OK. OK.
20-10. Now we got the freeze.
This is where the yard dogs can start mounting a comeback.
So a freeze is, we hold at 20.
You can only get points when you're serving.
Real good opportunity for the yard dogs to bring up.
I got a little greedy there.
It was exerting a little bit more force with those drives.
They fixed it.
So 20. This is where they can score.
And that is the game, folks.
All right, guys, so it's sort of warmed up.
That was your first match here.
You guys won decisively 21-10, I believe.
So very decisive victory.
So what did you guys do right?
What did you think about the first match?
I think we communicated really well.
At the beginning, we had a little bit of trouble with the middle ball.
But we figured it out pretty well by communicating.
So I think that was good.
Yeah, we stuck to our game plan.
We figured out the middle, as Ellie said.
And we just played our game.
All right. Thanks, guys. Good luck.
This is the second round here.
We should have warmed up.
It's leading 1-0.
This is the boys' match now.
This is the doubles men's.
I want to thank our sponsors.
We got Crush Yard, who is hosting us today.
Zix Zero.
Pickleball. Phenomenal pickleball paddles.
Pickleball driller.
We saw that at the beginning of the match with the little blue cord.
And really good training device.
And ProDrive. ProDrive donated all the bags.
We are starting here.
The yard dogs are serving.
That's Evan.
He is the lead pro for all of Crush Yard.
Playing the Agassi.
And he's playing with Mike Forster.
Mike Forster is playing with the Yola Hyperion.
The new Yola 4.
We got Bharat.
He is serving.
He's also playing a Yola.
He's got a channel here.
And he's playing with Cliff Pickleball.
So we got a little bit of the YouTubers over here on the right side.
Social media stars.
And we've got some pro players on the left side here.
We got Mike Forster serving right now.
Him and Evan both play in pro tournaments.
Actually all four of these guys play in pro tournaments.
But you know what?
Yard dogs are not starting off fast here.
They should have warmed up.
They are already getting the lead here.
Hopefully they will pick it up.
What's your take?
Who do you think is going to take this one?
I think this is a very evenly matched set up here.
Very much.
All four of them are very solid players.
Very patient.
Very aggressive on their dinks here.
Evan told me that he was excited because he normally has been just drilling and doing lots of things here at Crush Yard.
But he was excited to play today.
One, two.
One, two, three.
All right.
Three, two.
Sort of warmed up.
He's serving here.
Good hands.
A good flick from the middle.
All right.
BK couldn't really get on top of that one.
So now it is three, three.
Forster serving.
That barely caught the line.
Yeah, he was waiting for it to go out.
Oh, that was a big effort there.
Four, three.
A little warmed up.
He's leading.
Pickleball is serving.
Playing with the red paddle.
That's his own signature paddle.
A good solid paddle, in my opinion.
Great speed up.
I think they thought he was going to go to the outside, and then he ended up moving it back to the middle.
Great speed up.
Cliff plays with some really weird angles.
He really has some real interesting angles.
Yeah, because Cliff's background is in table tennis, and so he uses his wrist a little bit more than some of the other players.
Yep.
We saw that, too, when Hendry played, because in badminton they played with that, too.
Yep, good poach.
Now we've got 6-4 on the warmed up.
Oh, good shot by Cliff.
Oh, Mike couldn't get out of the way there.
All right.
The warmed up is building the lead here.
It is 6-4.
Cliff serving to Evan.
All these guys are fantastic at really...
Wow, great speed up.
Great speed up there.
8-4.
EK just did a little Mark Napartovich over there.
He kind of lifted his body up, getting that ball to go over the net.
Wow, great ATP defense.
Oh, wow.
Evan really saved himself there.
He left that one a little bit high, and Clifford tried to make him pay.
It is 5-8.
Evan is serving to Clifford.
See if they can build a little bit of momentum here.
Great dig.
Oh.
Evan had it, he was on top of it.
He was on top of it, just got his hand in a little bit of the wrong position there.
Maybe he was just a little excited.
Yep, 9-5.
Read it pretty well.
Saw the juiciness of that one.
Good angle there.
That was a good speed up by Mike.
Now Mike's playing with this YOLA 4 Hyperion, and this is his first time actually playing with it.
Pretty risky coming and playing with something that you've never played with before.
He's not doing too bad with it.
But I think this last week I saw him playing with the Perseus.
And so, similar feel.
Similar feel.
Let's switch the sides.
Okay, so that means it is 11-6.
What's the score?
6 or 5?
I'll go check.
Yeah, this kills us without the scoreboard.
Hey Mike, is it 11-5?
11-5.
Okay, it is 11-5.
Thank you for the scorekeepers here.
Nope.
Good speed up there.
Cliff could not get on top of it.
They really need to build some momentum here.
The yard dogs are kind of behind here, 6-11.
Mike could not reset that.
Like I said, Cliff's angles.
The way he generates the angles, it's really hard.
You kind of tell where he's hitting the ball.
Yep, there is sometimes.
There we go.
Oh, good.
Left it up a little bit and Evan put it away.
Evan took it away.
Amazing watching Evan play.
Watch how low he gets.
He definitely doesn't miss leg day at the gym, I'll say that much.
He stays so low.
Good resets here.
That's great hands.
Really patient.
They're not going to hit the marginal ones because the hands are so...
Evan wants that one back.
That was a gift.
That was gift wrap.
Merry Christmas.
A little warmed up.
Happy Kwanzaa.
Maybe if...
Did he get it?
Maybe if he would have had his celery juice this morning, he would have gotten that one.
Celery juice.
Nope, he missed.
That is 8-13.
Evan could not reset that.
That is 14-8.
Serving.
Good speed up there.
Good lead by Evan.
That's so hard to lead the ball when it's coming up shoulder height.
And just to be aware to get the paddle down.
It's just...
You've got to be quick with your instincts.
What have we got for a score now, Keith?
It is 9-14.
Should have warmed up.
Evan did not get low enough for that one.
Another one for should have warmed up.
15-9.
That barely caught the line.
DK said he was having a little trouble with his shoulder this last week.
But you sure can't tell.
No, he's looking pretty fluid to me.
They're both looking pretty darn good.
These are all four of these guys are 5-0 players.
I think that was wide.
Oh, I guess not.
All these guys were 5-0 players.
And you can tell the difference of just the fluidness and just the defensive dinks.
And the spin they put on everything.
BK wants that one back for sure.
12-15.
Yard dogs are making a little bit of a comeback here.
Barely caught the back edge of that line.
Yeah, I was going to say that one looked close to being out.
Good reset.
Great reset.
Oh, BK!
Holy biscuits.
BK hit the junk out of that one.
Hit it like it stole something.
Mike serving to BK now.
Great drop.
Great dig.
He took that one right off his shootouts.
Wow, see that's that cliff, man.
The angles he generates with that paddle is so hard to read.
Yeah, that one you thought it was going to be going to the middle, but he actually pushed it to the left.
He pushed it to the outside there.
And Evan was not prepared for it.
Oh, BK missed two uncharacteristically.
Uncharacteristic attacks.
Evan serving here to Cliff.
We've got Val joining us back here from the scorer's booth.
Oh, there she is.
Wow, great reset.
Oh, man.
We've got 17-14.
Good speed up by Evan.
15-17.
Let's see if they can catch it up here.
Still neck and neck so far.
Yeah, that's pretty close.
A little bit of a shoe timeout.
Quick shout out to our sponsor, Crush Yard, for hosting this event.
Phenomenal entertainment here.
Great restaurant.
Great booze.
Great games.
Great fun.
Again, we're playing with the Komodo Bio Ball.
Komodo Bio Ball.
All right.
That's 18-15.
Good lead.
A little too much salsa on that one.
Yep.
16-18.
Great poach by Evan.
That was a great poach.
Shaking and baking.
17-18.
Got a little bit of a crowd built up over here loving this game here.
People know good high-level pickleball when they see it.
Wow, Evan got caught a little bit there.
A great attack.
Great attack.
Great attack by Evan there.
All right, Evan serving.
Now we're at 18-18.
All tied up, man.
Race to three.
First one to 20 freezes.
Really, Yard Dog.
Ooh, missed by there.
Okay, 19-18.
Almost to 20.
Yard Dogs really need to pull this one out.
They're already down one.
They don't want to go down two going into the mixed matches.
Wow.
Great dig.
Such a fantastic point.
That was a great point.
Evan hit some really crazy angles there.
I thought the one that was going to BK, that was going to float out.
Yeah, he played it.
He played it.
We'll never know, will we?
All right, what do we got for a score now, Keith?
It is 19-19.
20-19.
All right, we are now in a holding pattern.
They can only win on their serve if they win this point right here.
So freeze for the Yard Dogs.
Yep, freeze for the Yard Dogs.
Got to win on their serve.
Right here.
Oh, a little bit of miscommunication there.
They got out of it.
Probably characteristically said, I go.
Wanted it.
Wow.
Great speed up there.
Great speed up.
Yard Dogs pull one out.
We are now at 1-1 for the tournament.
Let me go talk to the winners here.
All right, so I'm here with the winners of the second match here.
You guys are tied 1-1.
This is the Yard Dogs.
So what'd you guys do right?
You guys played well.
You guys played together for a little bit.
So what went right for you?
Yeah, it got a lot better, I feel like, when we started to slow down a little bit.
And I was starting to drop balls rather than trying to drive balls.
When I dropped, it just gave them a little bit of an opportunity to kind of hang themselves a little bit.
Lead balls high.
Let everyone come in and poach a little bit.
And we found a good spot to think to that kind of gave us a lot of points.
And we just wanted to hammer that pretty hard.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, we made the adjustment and switch over about returning to a different spot on the court, too.
Forcing one of their players to kind of come over and take the ball a little more.
But like that, we were under a lot less pressure on our courts after doing that.
And then, yeah, just hit the same spots over and over.
We feel like we have an advantage.
Just keep going.
All right.
Thanks, guys.
All right, guys, now we are up with our first mixed match.
We've got BK and Ellie.
And they're going against Gianna and Mike Forrester.
So we've got their yard dogs over here.
On my right, your left.
And the should have warmed up BK and Ellie over here on my left, your right.
Now, I'm looking, you know, when you're playing mixed, what's the what's the what's the key here playing mixed?
Is it the dominant male wins that want the most that we see?
I think, you know, you see a lot of action on the female side of things.
And so I think it really boils down a lot to how strong the dominant male player is, how much they come over.
But also whether or not whether or not we've got an even playing field with the ladies.
Yep. All right.
Yard dogs, that was Gianna serving to Ellie.
And you should have warmed up.
They jump out to the early lead, won nothing.
Now, BK and Ellie have definitely played a lot with each other.
And so they are extremely comfortable with each other's game.
That's an advantage.
Yes. And I don't think that Mike and Gianna have played together a lot with each other.
Great angle there by Mike.
1-1.
Forrester serving to BK.
A lot of yolas on the court here.
We got three yolas.
Three yolas and some apes.
For sure.
I do believe Ellie is sponsored by Selkirk.
So she's just playing around with another paddle right now.
But she's a Selkirk sponsored player.
So any pro event or any tournament, she's playing Selkirk.
Now Gianna got a little bit greedy there.
Very hard to speed up.
BK's got a really good backhand.
Was not necessarily advised to speed up.
Yeah, he just responds really well to the balls that are going to go.
Yep.
BK serving to Mike here.
Both with a yolo 4.
A little bit deep there.
Mike let that one go.
Now we're at 2.
I think we're at 4.
3-1.
Gianna let that one go a little bit there.
3-1.
BK and Ellie just this last weekend, or maybe it was two weeks ago,
they won a tournament together in St. Petersburg, I believe it was.
It was a mixed tournament over there.
Funny ball.
The ladies really playing each other over there.
A lot of back and forth.
Good dinking.
She gets so low.
She does get so low.
Good speed up.
Yep.
A little bit of overhead there.
BK could not get the ball down.
Now it's 2-3.
Gianna serving.
2-5.
Oh, that was a great, great coach and kill by BK.
4-2.
Gianna left that one up just a little bit.
Yeah, I feel like she's playing a little bit tentative, maybe a little bit scared.
So you can't play scared, definitely.
You got to play to win and you got to play aggressive.
You can't be passive or give dead dinks.
We'll see if she can shake it loose a little bit here.
That was out.
That was a little out, too.
All right.
Building the lead here, 5-2.
7-2.
Is it 5 or 7?
Probably 5, but we'll check and make sure.
BK is like, get out of my way.
Okay, now they crossed over.
That was a good switch there.
Let's see what the score is here.
Couldn't tell.
Oh, a little wide.
Let's see if we can see the words from BK out of here, see what he says.
I think he said 9.
It can't be 9.
Oh, yeah, I guess it could be 9.
I think he said 9.
9-3.
They missed a bunch of scores here.
Well, folks, you'll have to forgive us.
We lost the scoreboard, but we're doing the best that we can.
Keeping good pressure on them, keeping them back.
All right.
And she hits it out.
Okay, 4-9.
Let's see if they can do something with this.
There's a glare on that window.
I can't really see.
Wow, great reset.
Great point.
Leave it up just a little bit, and BK was all over it.
Like brown on rice.
Yeah, he definitely was brown.
You know, there's just as much brown on rice as there is white.
Okay.
Oh, I thought it was there.
Yep.
And that is 11, folks.
We're switching sides at 11.
We should have warmed up.
BK definitely has a commanding lead over Yard Dogs.
Mike and Gianna got to figure something out here.
They are not jiving, but you can definitely tell BK and Ellie have played together before.
They're working without even much communication.
They're just moving really well with each other.
BK's tough, man.
He's just all over things, man.
And Ellie, she resets the ball very well.
Knows when to attack.
Yeah.
She's also fantastic at letting BK command when he needs to over on that side of the court.
Yeah, she's very unselfish there.
And, you know, I think, didn't BK play tennis, too?
Are they both tennis guys?
So we should have warmed up.
We're both tennis guys.
Now, I know Mike did not play tennis, so he is not a tennis player.
But he's very smooth, but he's definitely not a tennis player.
And then I don't know about Gianna.
Did she play tennis?
She did play tennis.
She definitely has a really good form, really good swing.
Her backhand drives are pretty incredible.
They are very, very, very nice.
What's interesting about Mike is I remember when him started playing,
he did not do the two-handed backhand.
And now he's got that down really, really well.
Yeah, definitely have been working.
I want to shout out to Crush Yard, our host for today.
6-0 Pickleball.
The Pickleball Driller and Pro Drive, those are our sponsors for this event.
Really appreciate those guys helping us put this event on.
Really good gear.
And this Pickleball Driller, I think it's something special.
It's definitely a good tool to use and put in your bag to get better.
All right.
Vite serving here.
Wow.
Vite with a good speed up there.
It is now 12-4.
I thought Mike was expecting that one to be a winner.
Yeah.
Mike plays with a lot of spin, but not a lot of power.
I kind of expected him to hit that ball a little bit harder.
But he just puts a lot of spin on it.
Which really doesn't do much for you when these guys are in the middle of the court.
You got to put it on their toes or in a way.
And then there's the signature BK head shot.
Yeah.
Coming from racquetball, I'm always like, let's just hit it as hard as we possibly can.
Yeah.
Well, you've always been a power player.
Well, you know, to keep them back, too.
Because the harder you hit it, the more difficult it is to reset those shots.
I'm with you.
Like on those ones, maybe it's just that new paddle being a lot slower than what we've seen in the past.
Yeah.
But I also was expecting to see those a little on the harder side.
Yeah.
It just feels like either he just is a little bit too gentle with it or the paddle itself.
But I think we also have seen a return to pickleball paddles being a lot softer, which has really slowed the game down.
And I think it's just overall much better.
Yeah, it is.
Because I appreciate the chess match, not just the bang bang checkers match.
Really, really appreciate that you have to work and earn your points.
Yep.
The attack left that one hanging there, just getting stomped here.
This is now 16-5.
16-5, BK serving.
The mic.
Oh, an uncharacteristic drop on the serve.
Gift wrap here.
OK, so we are at 6-16.
Oh, that one was close.
They called that in.
That looked a little bit out.
It did.
I would have been either way.
All right, Ellie serving.
That was out.
All right, 7-17.
Mike serving.
Looked like on that serve, that ball made a weird bounce.
It did.
I wonder if this ball...
It's getting soft, like you said.
Yeah, getting soft.
You know, we got a bunch of new ones over here.
Probably get a switch over here after this game.
Yeah.
BK picked it up, but it still was...
Oh, that was a great speed up.
Great speed up.
BK tried to do a little scorpion action there.
Got super low.
I still can't tell the score, so we'll see.
Oh, that one went out.
Let's see what Mike says.
See if we can read his lips here.
11?
I don't know.
I think this had 11.
We're at 19-11.
If they get this one, they freeze at 20.
Oh.
But they're at 20.
I think they're at 20 here.
It can't be at 20.
It has to be 19, I guess.
That was a good shot.
Got some ups there.
See if we can read what she says.
Not sure.
I'm not sure either.
This is like a guessing game.
It's like, where's Waldo?
Oh, now.
Okay.
Maybe 13 now.
13-20.
16-19.
For sure, we got that score, right?
That's out.
Well, they're coming back a little bit, for sure.
Keeping the heat on.
Keeping the pressure on.
Mike's hit some really great attackable balls.
And?
Ball's in.
Whoa!
It must have just barely dropped in there.
I think it's 15.
I just saw that out of Mike's mouth.
Okay.
That sounds about right.
15-19.
Yeah, because I don't think they have 17.
No.
Nice speed up.
Good attack by Gianna.
Gianni, not holding back there.
Nope.
Definitely moving it.
Working it.
16-19.
We can get another one here.
Good reset.
Another great reset.
Come on!
Oh, and they got it!
17-19.
We're making a battle of it.
Making a battle of it.
17-19.
Yep, we are finally on the right score.
Apologize.
We will do our best.
Wow!
Okay.
Here we go.
Holding 20 here.
Freezing at 20.
21.
Alright.
Excellent.
Hi guys, so you're up 2-1 now.
You definitely look comfortable playing with each other.
You can tell you've played with each other before.
Maybe a little bit of an advantage there.
You let them kind of come back a little bit closer.
You guys had a really commanding lead.
They crawled back really close.
But what did you do to pull it out?
Yeah, I started going for a little too many highlight shots once we went up a little bit.
So I probably shouldn't have hit the tweeners and saved the outballs there.
But it's fine.
It's fine.
We know how to close out a game.
When it comes crunch time, we play together a lot, as you mentioned.
So we know exactly how to slow the game down and pick our spots.
So we had a game plan going into it and executed it at the end.
Awesome.
Yeah, ditto.
Yeah, same thing.
I think we went a little crazy towards the end there.
And they racked up points.
And in rally scoring, it's really hard because the other team can come back.
So it got a little tight.
But we closed it out.
Good job.
Good job, guys.
Okay, we are back in action here.
Let's see.
Sort of warmed up.
We got Cliff and Valerie.
They're playing.
They're to my right, your left.
Evan and Brittany are playing over on my left, your right.
And they're switching it up.
So should have warmed up is starting on my left, your right.
And Yard Dogs over here with Brittany and Evan are starting.
And they're down 2-1.
So they really need to pull this one out.
I think there's a pretty evenly matched teams here.
Let's get it going.
During the break, I said to BK, I said, the hope is that you go 2-2.
So we have a dream breaker.
And he very emphatically said no.
You're not going to have it, huh?
You're not having it?
No, we're not doing that.
Not having it.
All right.
Well, let's see.
Cliff is very difficult to play.
Especially for mixed.
I expect them to freeze him out and really work Ellie over here.
Not Ellie.
Sorry, really work Valerie.
Good speed up by Cliff there.
Brittany couldn't quite get that ball down low enough.
Valerie serving here.
Oh, that was a great reset.
Well, Evan pulled that a little bit.
They're down 3.
Let's see.
This is not a good start for the yard dogs.
Cliff is playing his paddle, the red.
Very good, solid Gen 4 paddle that's legal.
And we're playing with the Komodo Bio Ball.
Yep.
Evan sped that up.
And now they are down 4-0.
This is not looking good for the yard dogs.
They're going to have to figure something out here.
They don't want to go down too far.
Valerie playing with the Agassi.
Brittany playing with the ALW.
Oh, good point there.
Okay, they are on the board.
1-4.
We've got Evan serving.
He's playing with the Agassi, serving to Cliff.
Uh-oh.
Got a little lazy with that one.
Rejection at the net.
Brittany serving.
Good pick up by Evan there.
Good reset.
Oh my gosh, good reset.
Is that in?
That looks like it was in.
For all of you out there, I affectionately refer to Cliff as Poppy.
That is Spanish for daddy.
It's just kind of a funny term that I gave him a long time ago.
Also a term of endearment.
Oh yeah.
So every time he comes into the room, I always yell Poppy.
Evan sped that up.
Should have been good, but no.
He pulled it just a bit wide.
Cliff is originally from Haiti, but he definitely
spent some years in Venezuela, and his Spanish is perfect.
Was he trilingual?
He is trilingual, yes.
French, English, and Spanish.
Yes, he met his wife in Venezuela, and they have a beautiful daughter, Leah.
Alright, Evan serving here.
Oh.
Cliff is all over it, man.
Wow.
Wow, he kept the pressure on there.
Brittany was a reset machine on that one.
He put a lot of pressure on that one.
It was the determining fact.
Cliff is really stepping up his game right now.
Yeah, when he takes it serious, he's a dangerous opponent.
Yep, and then he just put some junk on that one in the wrong way.
Alright, we are at four.
Four, two, six.
Build an edge back a little bit.
I think that's really what they're going to have to do.
Evan was totally ready for that one.
Yep, I think Valerie is probably the weaker player on this court, so I think they really need to start isolating her and keep...
I really am...
Wow.
Evan was trying to poach there, it was a really good poach, he just didn't pull it off.
Eight to five.
Eight-five.
I really think you shouldn't be playing to Cliff at all.
He would not touch a ball if I was playing out there.
That probably would be neat, too.
He just applies so many different angles and spins and pressure.
Valerie would be hitting 99% of the stuff that I would be tending here.
Oh, man.
Valerie is definitely holding her own.
She is. Brittany was definitely putting some pressure on her and she held her own.
Nine to six.
All right, well...
Well, they just...
Okay, now it must be 11 to six. I apologize, that's very hard for us to score.
High five and on the way across.
We're switching at 11.
Game's at 21.
Not looking good for us getting to a dream breaker here.
Yard dogs are definitely not playing up to their caliber.
I'm pushing for the yard dogs. I want to see a dream breaker.
Come on, Evan and Brittany.
All right, that's a start. That's a start.
7-11.
I want a Slurpee!
Steve is back for a little joke.
I used to get Slurpees all the time when I was a kid.
I wouldn't touch that stuff now.
You don't go on Free Slurpee Day?
No. I got five kids, man. I go on Free Slurpee Day every year.
When is Free Slurpee Day?
There's a Free Slurpee Day on 7-11.
July 11th every year.
12-7.
I would have liked to see a little Ernie action on that one.
Brittany pushed Cliff pretty hard to the left.
They missed that, so now we're at 8-12.
All right, come on, yard dogs.
8-12. Here we go.
Let's see it.
Just caught the back of that line.
Good reset by Brittany.
Cliff has recently started incorporating more of the two-handed backhand as well.
Oh!
Just barely missed that.
Just barely missed that. Here we go. 13-8.
It has to be 9 or something.
13-9. Yep.
Or 7 or something.
No, they're at 13.
Oh, 13. Yeah, yeah. Sorry, sorry.
Yeah, I got them.
That one was just out.
Come on, yard dogs. Let's go.
Go for the yard dogs.
14-8.
That was a good speed up.
Good speed up. So 9-14.
They need to make a move right here.
They can't be giving up too many more points.
Oh, man!
Evan!
Evan wants that one back.
That one hurt his heart there.
Those are some bad biscuits.
15-9.
They're all having a good time, you know?
Yep.
They drive right down the middle.
They're going out of sync here.
16-9.
Down 7.
This is a very tough way to go here.
Ooh.
Yep. Brittany couldn't get that one down.
17-9.
Skip up the net there.
Cliff was trying to do something fanciful.
10-17 here.
Let's see if Brittany and Evan can make a comeback here.
They need to get some points on the board in a hurry.
Cliff loves the theatrical a little bit, you know?
He likes to get a little action in there.
Good start by Brittany.
Oh, she read that really well.
She was on top of that.
She read that really well.
Just didn't pull it off.
Yeah, some really uncharacteristic misses by both Evan and Brittany.
We know pressure will do that.
Pressure will do that.
$100 on the line for each of these guys.
What do we got for a score now, Keith?
It is 17-10.
Nice off-speed pitch by Evan.
11-18, I think.
Sorry, 11-18.
Let's see if we can see it.
Yep, 11-18.
Cliff with an Ernie.
Cliff with a stationary Ernie.
Oh, man.
Valerie with the put-away.
Cliff couldn't get the job done.
Valerie says, I'll take this.
I definitely wasn't as composed as she is when I was 17.
Yeah, 17 years old.
She's doing pretty good.
They are just hammering it home.
I think we're at the freeze now.
20-11.
There we go.
Oh, didn't quite get there.
Okay, they're putting up a fight here.
12.
What's crazy is like with those older model paddles, those points would have been over a long time.
Oh, yeah.
The power paddles that they're now outlawing.
So it's definitely, seeing all the different resets and everything, it's fantastic.
A lot more skill involved with that now.
Proper hands.
Great reset.
Oh, poppy.
Wow.
That's a deception.
He just dead-legged.
Evan was just caught with his pants down there.
That was a phenomenal little flick.
All right, going for the win here.
Brittany and Valerie going after it.
Evan's getting involved.
Oh, Evan, get it.
Wow, great pick-up.
That's it.
They won.
Wow.
Hey, do you guys want to do a Dream Breaker?
No.
Just for fun?
No?
Okay.
Let me interview you guys.
Can I just go walk?
Yeah.
And then you guys can come out and get your catch.
No, no.
I'm going to interview you guys, and then I'll have you guys come out.
Hi, guys.
Hey, way to take it home there.
Looks like you guys have been playing together for a while, even though, you know, probably
first time.
First time playing together, yeah.
Really good there.
So what did you do to pull it out?
Last time I played against her, she kicked my butt.
I said, okay, the next time I have to play, she's going to be around.
I have to play with her.
So she was carrying me for the entire game.
Okay.
Thank you.
That's so sweet.
No, we played really well together.
We worked, like, our aggressiveness just collided really well, and we stuck to our game plan
and just stayed positive, and we did really well together.
That's awesome.
Hey.
Okay.
Hey, you guys, come here.
Come get your cash.
Just stand here in a line.
All right, here.
On top of the gifts you guys get, let me give you each your cash.
100 for you.
Thanks, guys.
Appreciate it.
See you next time.
