Hey guys, welcome back to the This Is Soul Skate Shop YouTube channel.
Today we're going to learn a new stopping technique.
I named it myself and I called it the grab the peanut butter.
In this video I'll explain why and what it is.
We are here of course in front of our store in Amsterdam, the This Is Soul Skate Shop.
We have a physical store and a webshop as well, so if you're not in the neighborhood
you can also buy online.
We have a buyer's guide and YouTube content about all the different aspects of inline
skating, of the hardware, but also of course of the lessons.
And that's why you're here today, we're going to learn how to do the grab the peanut butter
trick.
I named it myself so it's a weird name, but for me it makes total sense because you use
this stopping technique, at least when I am in the supermarket on my skates, and you don't
have enough width, so it's a narrow pathway and you have to do a quarter turn.
So a 90 degree turn and a stop at the same time.
I'll show you how it goes real quickly.
So you skate and you do step, step, and then you stop.
Before you want to learn the grab the peanut butter, we have a video about your first steps
on inline skates.
And there's like a couple of techniques that you use stepping with.
The first is obviously the ping-pong stop or the sole stop.
It's where you skate and you just put one foot in front of you and then you stop.
Learn that one first.
And you can also do a kind of like a 90 degree turn with this as well.
If you first put one foot in front of you like this, and then the other one, a 90 degree
turn as well.
Then you kind of like have the same thing as the grab the peanut butter, but it's not
the same thing.
Because if you go faster, you cannot do it like this anymore.
How to do this peanut butter technique?
First thing you want to do is obviously always start in a skating position, standing still,
put one foot in front of you like this, and then the other one beside it.
If you turn to the right, you start with your right foot.
So you use your right foot in front of you first, and then your left foot goes next to
it.
I think you have to be able to do both.
So practice both sides.
Then when you master it standing still, you can get some speed, slowly approach it, skating
position, boom, boom.
If you're a beginner, you're probably not standing still right now, but probably you're
still like rolling.
Okay, so every time you roll, you want to slow it down a little bit.
And only when you come to a complete standstill, you're able to speed up again.
The important thing why people keep on rolling is because they don't turn their foot exactly
90 degrees.
It's really important that your foot are exactly 90 degrees, and then you stop.
So you skate exactly 90 degrees, and then step, step.
If you, however, don't have a 90 degree, like this, you keep on rolling, and we don't want
that, because then you'll crash into the peanut butter.
It's a mess.
Another place where you can do this technique is when you have reached your door that you
want to enter, then you can do it like this as well.
So you skate, then you grab the peanut butter, boom, boom, and then you go in.
So every time you need to do a quarter turn and come to a complete standstill, or if you're
at the traffic lights and you need to push the button for the traffic lights, same thing.
Okay, now for the advanced skaters, if you want to increase the speed, there's this 80s
dance move that you need to learn.
So the 80s dance move goes like this, and then you can change position like that.
So you have like this, and then you go to that.
So practice this dance move.
Old people obviously already know how to do it.
And then at the end of the grab the peanut butter, you do this dance move, because it's
necessary to cancel out your speed.
I'll show you.
I'm going to go a little bit faster.
So I skate, put one foot down, 80s dance move like that, boom.
You shift your weight from this, my nose is entirely above my right foot now, and then
it goes to my left foot.
That's how you cancel out your speed.
Let's try the other side as well.
I'm hungry.
Let's go to the supermarket right now, grab some peanut butters there.
If you, of course, want to learn more, check out our YouTube channel because we have a
lot of lessons on our YouTube channel, or you can come here, take a lesson from one
of our expert teachers.
So whatever you do, I'll see you guys next time or in the next video, and don't forget
to subscribe.
Bye-bye.
Perfect.
Let's search for the peanut butter.
For real, my peanut butter is out right now.
So I actually need some new one, so I'm super happy that we do this today.
