If you've been struggling with disease or pain in your body,
or maybe you've just been struggling
with a particular trial in your life
that does not have anything to do with your physical health,
I have good news for you today.
There is something that is far more powerful
than anything you'll ever face.
There is something far more powerful
than any sickness or any pain, any diagnosis.
You know, sometimes we receive a diagnosis from a doctor
and it's terminal, and they'll say,
I'm sorry, there's nothing more we can do for you.
Well, that's a pretty bad diagnosis if that's you.
But I want you to know today,
there is something that's a higher power,
something that is far more powerful
than any terminal diagnosis,
and that is the name of Jesus.
And I wanna talk to you today about that name
because so few Christians really fully understand
the power that's in the name of Jesus.
You know, the name of Jesus belongs to every Christian,
every believer.
It's your legal right to that name.
You know, some have said this,
that the name of Jesus gives us
the power of attorney on earth.
Now, some of you may know more about that than others.
I'm not an expert on that subject,
but I know this, that if you have the power of attorney,
that means you have access to stand in the place
of the actual person who has possession of an estate.
And so when it comes to the name of Jesus,
Jesus has given us his name as the power of attorney
to access everything that he's given to us.
In other words, when we use his name
while we're here on earth,
it's as if Jesus himself was here
and actually using his authority
over those circumstances and situations himself.
And so we're gonna talk about that today.
You know, one place that Jesus first introduced this concept
was in John chapter 14, and in verse 12,
he said, most assuredly, I say to you,
he who believes in me, the works that I do,
he will do also, and greater works than these he will do.
That's a pretty astounding statement right there,
that he's telling us today that those that believe in him
would do greater works than he even did.
That's why there are so many in our day
that try to say these things have passed away,
but that's so far from the truth
because Jesus himself said we would do greater things
because I go to my father.
And now look at this part,
and whatever you ask in my name, in my name,
that I will do, that the father may be glorified in the son.
If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
Now, first of all, I wanna make it clear
that anything would include anything we know
is the will of God.
You can't just ask for random things
that are not the will of God and expect to receive them.
Another thing I wanna point out
is that because of this particular translation,
most people believe that this passage
is talking about prayer.
Now, it's true that we're taught to pray
in the name of Jesus,
but in this actual passage that we read here,
according to Strong's exhaustive concordance,
the meaning of the Greek word ask
implies a demand of something due.
Now, what Jesus is really telling his disciples here,
and he's telling us too,
whatever you demand in my name, I will do it.
Now, don't get this confused with demanding things from God
because God's not the one that's putting sickness on people
or withholding healing.
God's not the one that puts tragedy in people's lives.
We know this from the word of God
that Satan is responsible for those things.
So when we demand in the name of Jesus,
what we're really doing is we're demanding
that Satan take his hands off of our bodies,
we're demanding that Satan go from our situations in life,
and the reason he has to go
is because we're demanding this in the authority
or in the name of Jesus.
Now, we see from reading the book of Acts
that the early church actually used the name of Jesus
to heal and restore people,
and one example is in Acts chapter three in verse two.
It says, and a certain man lame
from his mother's womb was carried.
Now, notice this man was lame from birth,
whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple,
which is called beautiful,
to ask alms from those who entered the temple,
who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple
asked for alms, and fixing his eyes on him with John,
Peter said, look at us.
So he gave them his attention,
expecting to receive something from them.
Hey, this man was expecting.
Now, he wasn't expecting what happened,
but he was expecting something,
so that tells us that expectation is important in life.
Then Peter said, silver and gold I do not have,
but what I do have I give you
in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
rise up and walk.
And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up,
and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
So he leaping up, stood and walked
and entered the temple with them,
walking, leaping, and praising God.
Now, this is a phenomenal story,
and I want you to notice,
Peter didn't demand anything from God.
What he did was he demanded that this man be made whole
in the name of Jesus.
You know, God's not the one
that caused this man to be born crippled.
It was Satan, and we have to remember that.
You know, in Acts 10.38,
it says how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth
with the Holy Ghost and with power,
who went about doing good and healing
all those who were oppressed by the devil.
They weren't oppressed by God.
They were oppressed by the devil.
And so Peter used the name of Jesus to set this man free.
Now, notice this also.
He didn't pray and ask God to heal the man.
Now, I don't think it's unscriptural to pray
and ask God to heal people,
but there are gonna be situations
where praying is not gonna get the job done,
because from God's perspective,
he's already healed this man.
From God's perspective, he's already healed you.
So what God is wanting us to do is receive it.
He's wanting us to use the authority
that we have in the name of Jesus
and command Satan to take his hands off of our bodies.
So Peter didn't ask and pray.
He didn't hold a three-hour prayer meeting.
He just simply demanded in the name of Jesus.
Now, I will say this.
Even though he didn't pray for three hours at that moment,
we do know this, that the disciples did pray regularly
because, as a matter of fact,
they were on their way into the temple to pray.
There was an hour of prayer.
And so they lived a lifestyle of prayer.
And if we're living a lifestyle
of constant fellowship with God,
praying and seeking him daily,
we're gonna be in a position to use our authority
in the name of Jesus when it's needed,
just like Peter and John were ready on this particular day.
Now, we also see this,
that later in Acts 3 in verse 16, Peter said,
and his name, through faith in his name,
has made this man strong, whom you see and know.
Yes, the faith which comes through him
has given him this perfect soundness
in the presence of you all.
So what he's saying is it was the name of Jesus
that brought about this miracle,
and it's the name of Jesus
that guarantees us the answer in life.
Now, Paul had something to say
about the name of Jesus as well.
In Philippians chapter two in verse nine,
he says, therefore God also has highly exalted him
and given him the name which is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus,
every knee should bow of those in heaven
and of those on earth and of those under the earth,
and that every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
Oh, I'll tell you, God gets glory when we use that name.
Now, other translations, instead of saying those,
it uses the word beings.
So it should be worded this way, really,
that at the name of Jesus,
every knee should bow of beings in heaven
and of beings on earth and of beings under the earth.
So we know that this would include angels,
and it includes demons.
Now, when we take authority over things,
we're not necessarily taking authority over humans,
but there will be situations where you're dealing
with the spirit that's motivating the human.
So a lot of times people,
they think they can control other people,
but I want you to know today you can't
because even God can't force and control people
to do anything, and if he could,
he would make everybody get saved in a heartbeat.
But there have been times, like for example,
times when trouble was stirring
because someone full of the devil was wanting to do harm.
I remember one time there was somebody
that was speeding down our street,
and they were attempting to be a lunatic,
and my husband tried to stop them
because I was very pregnant,
we were trying to cross the street,
and that person got fuming angry and got out of the car,
and they were trying to have a fight.
And instead of thinking,
I think I'll have a fist fight today,
we decided to use the name of Jesus.
And when we used the name of Jesus and said,
Satan, I take authority over you now in the name of Jesus,
and I command the spirit to stop,
as soon as we did that,
that person just stopped what they were doing,
they kind of almost sputtered and looked dazed,
and they got back in their car and left.
So what am I saying?
There are times when you will use your authority
over spirits that are motivating people,
but it's not actually the person that you're controlling.
All of this belongs to us in Christ.
Angels and demons are subject to the name of Jesus,
and they have to surrender to that name,
because that name is greater than any other name.
So the thing that I love about this,
this name, this beautiful name Jesus,
is no matter what you have going on in your life,
if you've been diagnosed with cancer, cancer's a name,
but the name of Jesus is greater than the name cancer.
Whatever it is you're facing,
it may not even be that serious,
the name of Jesus is greater than the name
of whatever disease or pain that you have in your body.
The name of Jesus is greater than financial lack.
You might have an emergency,
and you need to pay a bill yesterday,
and you need that money.
Well, the name of Jesus is greater
than that lack or that need.
But the problem is with this name
is that it doesn't always mean that much to believers.
I think over the years, through lack of understanding
or through just spewing that name out casually
without actually walking with God as we should,
it hasn't worked as it should have for us.
And so many people have just kind of used the name
like a lucky charm or like a rabbit's foot.
Well, I'll say in the name of Jesus,
I'll pray in the name of Jesus,
and maybe it'll work and maybe it won't.
Well, I want you to know that anything
we receive from God is received by faith.
And faith doesn't just hope something will change.
And faith doesn't just flippantly spit out a name
and say, well, maybe it'll work this time,
or treat the name like it's a lucky charm.
Faith believes that when I use that name,
demons have to depart and flee.
When I use that name, disease has to depart from me.
When I use that name,
everything that's of the devil has to go
because that name is greater than any other name.
And the wonderful thing is it didn't just work for Jesus,
but he gave us his name as part of our inheritance.
Thank you, Jesus.
So the purpose of today's message
is really to build faith in you,
that the name of Jesus will work for you.
It's not gonna just work for a select few people,
but it belongs to every believer in Jesus Christ.
But what I would do is I would recommend
that you begin to build your faith along these lines.
Look up scriptures that talk about the name.
Look up scriptures that tell you who you are in Christ,
what you have in Christ, what you can do in Christ.
You know, just reading Ephesians chapter one
and Ephesians chapter two is faith building
because that shows us that Jesus has been raised
and seated higher than any name that is named.
He's been raised higher than every principality,
every power, might and dominion.
I'll tell you what,
because we are now seated with him in heavenly places,
we're raised up above every name that's named.
And the more you meditate on those scriptures,
the stronger your faith becomes.
And as you're developing your faith,
this name will begin to work more and more for you
as God's intended for it all along.
So I wanna also encourage you,
the next time sickness or disease tries to attack your body,
use your faith.
Say in the name of Jesus, I refuse to have this pain.
In the name of Jesus,
I refuse to be sick or diseased in my body.
I command this to go in Jesus' name.
You can command Satan to go in Jesus' name and he has to go
because if you're part of the body,
even if you were the little toe on the body of Jesus,
you have authority over all the power of the enemy.
I remember my spiritual father telling this story,
he's in heaven now,
but he had a testimony that he lived for 70 years
without ever having a headache.
Now he did say this,
he said, I passed up some marvelous opportunities
to have one.
And I want you to know,
you'll pass up some marvelous opportunities to be sick
or have headaches as well.
But the reason he could testify that he never had one
is because as soon as any type of symptom
would touch his body,
he would immediately use the name of Jesus
and take authority over those symptoms.
And his faith was so developed that when he used that name,
demons had to obey, sickness had to go.
And every time there it went, it left.
And I've used the name of Jesus in my own life.
One time after another, God always comes through.
So I want to encourage you today,
it's not just for a select few people.
It's not because God has favorites
that it works for some and not for others.
It's completely dependent on how closely you walk with God,
meditating upon his word
and believing that what he says is so.
And I want you to know God's not a man that he should lie.
Now, let me just give you two more great verses
to build your faith today.
And then you go ahead and you continue to meditate
upon these in your own time.
In Acts chapter four in verse 29,
it says, now the apostles came together
and they were praying because they were threatened
by the religious leaders to be quiet.
Don't use the name of Jesus anymore.
Why?
Because Satan didn't want that name used.
And so they came before God and prayed and they said,
now, Lord, look on their threats and grant to your servants
that with all boldness, they may speak your word
by stretching out your hand to heal
and that signs and wonders may be done
through the name of your holy servant, Jesus.
You know, this name is not just for our own personal use,
but this name is also so that we can help bless others
and bless the world.
And then in Mark 16, we can't hardly preach this message
without Mark 16 and verse 17, Jesus said this.
He said, these signs will follow those who believe.
So you've got to believe.
In my name, they will cast out demons.
They will speak with new tongues.
They will take up serpents.
And if they drink anything deadly,
it will by no means hurt them.
And they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.
God still wants to do signs and wonders
in the name of Jesus today.
He wants to do it for you.
He wants to do it for those around you.
And I encourage you, build your faith
and start using that name and live as free and healed
as he's made you to be.
Well, that's all for today.
