What is up, welcome back to my channel. So today I have a video all about
switching to non-toxic, all-natural products. Whether it's beauty products,
everyday products that you use, shampoo, conditioner, all those things.
We are going to be going over everything that I have made the switch to.
I do have a clean journey highlights on my Instagram
and I knew I wanted to bring this content onto my YouTube channel because
it's something that I'm very passionate about.
Finding those all-natural, non-toxic products that really are better for your body.
It's just kind of crazy how many things that we really do put on our body every day
and we don't realize that there's so many dyes, harsh chemicals,
all these things that really shouldn't be in them.
So now every time I go out and buy something I really take a closer look at the ingredients.
Today I'm going to be sharing with you ways that you can actually vet your products and
make sure that they're good for you. I also want to just put a little disclaimer
that we all have our own standards. Some people go just, you know,
really all-natural, organic, certified, organic, all of that.
And then, you know, maybe the lower end of the spectrum,
it's just free of a few ingredients. So I would say I'm kind of in the middle.
There's things that I still, I'm not really towards all organic,
but I really do have a lot of great things on here that I want to share with you
that are still all-natural and a lot better than
normal everyday products that we're used to using.
I also want to say that this has been a long process.
I didn't just get rid of all the products I had because I don't want to be wasteful
and I want to use up what I have and I've kind of
gotten things as other things needed to be bought.
So maybe I ran out of a shampoo and I was like, okay, let me see what shampoo I can buy.
So that's kind of how I did it. I'm still in the process.
There's a lot of makeup that I still use because I'm not just gonna throw out makeup
that I spent, you know, a good amount of money on.
So this is still an ongoing process.
I probably will end up doing a part two on this.
If you guys want to see that, make sure to let me know, but it's definitely worth it.
I mean, you buy so much expensive makeup at the store anyway, so why not buy clean beauty?
Okay, so before we get into this video, just make sure to subscribe
if you end up really liking this content.
Also make sure to check out my Instagram where I kind of update you real time
on the new products that I'm trying out that are all-natural, non-toxic, all that good stuff.
So if you guys are interested, then keep on watching.
Okay, so we're gonna start off with a few different ways that you guys
can actually vet the products that you are buying.
Now, it's really easy to get stuck in that hole of greenwashing.
A lot of people do it nowadays because they know that it's something that
people are really looking for in their products.
You gotta be careful. You gotta do all the research yourself and make sure that
the things that you are buying are actually really good for you.
It's really easy to get confused.
I am going to share four different ways that I have actually vetted the products
that I use currently.
The first one is super, super easy.
Now, I know some people out there say it's not the best source,
but it's definitely a great start.
So when you're in the store, you can actually download the app.
It's called Think Dirty.
It has a bunch of different products on their database,
and they go in and basically vet all the ingredients that are in that product.
Some things are more vetted than others.
It gives you warnings and things that have kind of popped up
within regulations on certain ingredients.
So let's say a random ingredient that pops up into the thing that you want to buy,
and it had a warning for links to cancer.
It'll kind of lay that out for you.
Like I said, it's not the most reliable, but it's definitely a great start.
The other thing that's easy is you can actually scan the product
right in the store or search it.
You can see right there and then if you want to buy it.
It actually rates all the products from 0 to, I believe, 10.
And 0 being the best, and then it kind of goes all the way down,
and it's also color-coded.
So green is the best.
Yellow is eh, and then red, you definitely don't want to go there.
I like to stay in the green.
So around a 0 to a 2, if anything goes past that, it's a little iffy.
So that is a really great start.
I definitely recommend downloading it.
It's easy on the go.
I would suggest going into your makeup cabinet right now
and other products that you have laying around
and see what you guys are using,
because it's pretty eye-opening to actually see how bad things are.
Things that you've grown up using like toothpaste and mouthwash,
detergents, makeup.
It is insane.
Okay, so next is the ewg.org website.
This is a great website to reference products that are listed on that website,
as well as specific ingredients.
If you are on Think Dirty and your products maybe aren't vetted
as well as they should be or they're not available,
I would go to ewg and you can actually type in the specific ingredient
or maybe the product, not all products are listed under the ewg.
So check that out and it'll give you a rating similar to the Think Dirty app.
So just to kind of put it in perspective,
I would say you want to probably start with the ewg,
but if you're at the store and you need like a quick reference,
you can definitely pull up the Think Dirty app.
But if the Think Dirty app doesn't have that
or you want kind of more information,
you can kind of go on your laptop and check out ewg and kind of vet it that way.
So those are the two main things that I use.
The third thing is actually an Instagram account.
So I'm going to shout somebody out that is super helpful
and actually opened my eyes a lot to this.
Her name is Organic Bunny on Instagram.
She has a business slash website where she basically vets a bunch of products
for a bunch of different needs like makeup, skincare,
literally anything you can think of.
You can go on her website and you're basically guaranteed
that it's a really good, clean, non-toxic product.
So I like to go on there and kind of check out what she has,
what brand she has.
I also follow her on Instagram and she does a lot of education on her Instagram.
So I would highly recommend going to follow her account.
And then the other one I like to use is Live Less Toxic.
She is on Instagram and she also shares a lot of great information
about anything less toxic, which is awesome.
She also shares the links to where she's gotten her information.
So I also like to use that.
So I would recommend kind of searching out there on Instagram,
people who have a great following and really know what they're talking about
because it'll really kind of give you education
as you're scrolling through your Instagram.
And then I just want to add that if you see any dyes in products,
which is like blue 40, red 40, all of that, don't even go there.
If it has dyes, just don't do it.
If it has any P-E-G dash a number next to it, don't go there.
And most likely if it has a long list of ingredients
that you can't even pronounce, don't go there.
Okay, so let's get into the products.
I want to kind of lay out what to expect for each product.
So I'm basically going to obviously share the brand, what the product is.
If it is on the Think Dirty app, let you guys know what it is rated.
And then if I do have a comparable toxic version of what I'm using,
I'm also going to share that too,
just so you kind of get an idea of those household items
that you really don't know are that bad for you.
The first product I have is this mascara.
This mascara is by a brand 100% Pure.
So I actually found this on Organic Bunny's website,
but 100% Pure is a really great brand.
This mascara is a 100% fruit pigmented mascara, ultra lengthening.
I actually do see a difference in my eyelashes after wearing this
in combination with something else that I'm going to share after this.
But this is so awesome.
I love, love, love it.
It smells so good and it comes off really easy on the eye.
You don't have to worry about any like burning or anything
because it's all natural.
It's really so good for you.
I even got one for my mom for her birthday.
She doesn't know and she's in the other room,
so I'm not going to say that too loud.
Super great mascara.
I love, love, love it.
It really gives you that length and volume,
and I love that it's all natural.
It comes off really easy when you're taking your makeup off.
And we're also going to get into ways to remove your makeup naturally.
So this is a zero on the Think Dirty app.
Some of the ingredients are rated like twos and threes.
Overall, a really great product.
And if it's on Organic Bunny's site,
I really do trust it because she really vets her product.
Okay, so next product I actually found from Becca Bristow.
She actually made a video just like this one that I came across.
And I also came across a lot of her videos on how to make face wash
and all these different things.
So I'm going to give her a little shout out.
Check out her YouTube as well.
She has some great information on making the switch to natural products.
So this one she had mentioned, it is a castor oil.
So it's a 100% organic castor oil for hair growth and skincare.
So it just comes in this little dropper bottle.
And then it comes with a mascara tube, which is awesome.
So what I do is at night when I'm doing my whole skincare routine,
I will put this on my lashes and have it sit overnight.
I can definitely tell between this and the mascara,
my lashes have grown exponentially.
And I found this off of Amazon.
This is not on the Think Dirty app, but it's just 100% castor oil.
It's organic and Becca Bristow recommended it.
So we like this one.
Also, just a little side note.
If you guys are interested in buying any of these,
I am going to try my best to leave all the links down below in the description.
Okay, next product I also found off of Becca's YouTube channel.
So like I said, go check that video out.
I'm going to link it.
But this one is a rose water and glycerin face spray.
And it's actually not just a face spray.
You can spray it on your hair.
You can spray it on your body.
And I want to just mention that it's really awesome to find products
that are versatile for different uses because, you know,
it might be expensive and this wasn't that expensive.
But for the case that if a product is expensive,
you can use it for different things,
you kind of get out of it what you're paying for it.
So that's a good thing.
I actually spray this on my face after I am done cleansing it and washing it.
I'll kind of use it as a toner.
It's really good for your skin.
I also like to use it as a setting spray
and just kind of like in the day when I want to freshen up my face
and I just want that spritz, I'll put it on.
And then you can also put it on your hair for a little bit of shine.
This is also a zero on the Think Dirty app.
It only has three ingredients in it,
which is awesome purified water,
vegetable glycerin and hydro essential rose flower oil, I believe.
Yes. So this was a great product as well.
Okay, next up is coconut oil.
So coconut oil is another one of those products that's really versatile.
You can use it for many different things.
You can use it to make things.
But what I like to do is actually use it to remove the eye makeup.
I took this out of a larger coconut oil container
and put it into this one that I had reused from another product
because I don't want to waste.
So I put it in here and I just leave it in my bathroom.
The other thing I leave in the kitchen because I actually cook with it.
You do a lot of things with coconut oil,
so it's a great thing to actually have.
The coconut oil brand that I actually have in my little coconut jar
is the Nutiva Nurture Vitality Coconut Oil.
It is organic, USDA organic, non-GMO verified, virgin, cold pressed.
I use this on my eyes and I just remove my makeup.
I don't do my whole face because coconut oil can actually clog your pores.
So I just kind of remove my eyes
and then the rest of my face I actually use jojoba oil,
which I'm actually going to show as well.
I also like to use this coconut oil to do a hair mask.
Bring it from my roots down to my ends
and then I'll go take a shower, shampoo it twice, conditioner once.
I think it's for hair growth and just like shine.
It's just, it's a good thing to do for your hair.
It's a nice natural hair mask.
Okay, next up is one of my favorites.
I've been using this for so, so long now in my skincare routine.
This is jojoba oil.
I actually have this from the acne.org line.
Still have their cleanser because I had bought it a while back
and I don't want to just throw it out,
but I'm moving away from their products a little bit
because they do have some harsh chemicals in there,
but I do love their jojoba oil.
So they have an 100% organic jojoba oil and this is great stuff.
So I actually, as you can see, need to get more.
You can use it as a makeup remover, face wash,
which I had learned from Live Life Less Toxic on Instagram,
a pre-shave oil, a lip balm, a massage oil.
It's just a really great versatile product.
Love to use this for a lip balm and I also like to use it on my face.
You can take a little bit in your hand, kind of rub it together,
put it on your face, a full face of makeup or, you know,
just to cleanse your face and take a washcloth
and just kind of pat it with warm water.
Make sure you're patting it, not scraping your face.
You don't want to ruin your skin
and your skin also feels so moisturized and just so perfect.
Out of all the things nature produces,
jojoba oil is the most chemically similar to human skin oil,
making it an ideal non-comedogenic, won't clog pores, skincare ingredient.
So that's what they say about it.
It's just really awesome.
Okay, so next we're going to move into shampoo and conditioner.
This one kind of was hard for me for a little while
because I kept going to the drugstore,
by the way, most of the stuff you find in your drugstore
or just like a big box store like Walmart or, you know,
your grocery store isn't really going to have great products.
You'll find that a lot of the things that you might think are,
you know, clean, non-toxic, all natural,
are really full of things that you don't want to be putting on your body.
They just like to greenwash.
So be careful of that.
But I finally found one that I really, really like.
So I mentioned this on my Instagram stories
and I said I was going to update you.
So here I am with the update.
This is another product from 100% Pure.
I really, really love this brand.
A little bit pricier,
but they say you should spend more money on your shampoo and conditioner
because you don't want to ruin your hair.
So this one is the 100% Pure Burdock and Neem Healthy Scalp Conditioner.
So I was actually struggling with an itchy scalp
as well as a really dry scalp after I got out of the shower,
but then also really oily scalp.
It's just like a weird mix.
I was getting dandruff, all of that.
So after using this for about, I would say two months now,
I do not have the itchy scalp anymore.
I used to literally itch it all the time.
Gross, I know.
So after using this, I don't have that itch anymore.
I do get some dandruff once in a while,
but it's really not as bad as it used to be.
So I'm really loving this.
I love the smell of it.
It smells like a spa.
Literally like a spa.
And the thing that's great about this,
literally has nothing bad in it.
They are a one on the Think Dirty app,
but Organic Bunny has it on her site.
So I really do trust her vetting and it's by 100% Pure.
I also really trust that brand as well.
Okay, next we are moving in to body wash.
So I'm gonna share two types of body washes that I use.
One is a really versatile product
that is like literally a gem that you're gonna wanna buy
and just have in your house no matter what.
But the first thing is the Schmitz Coconut Pineapple Body Wash.
So I would say Schmitz is like the only brand, maybe Tom's.
You have to actually watch to see what brands get acquired
by bigger brands, anything, you know,
under Unilever or Johnson & Johnson,
just don't even go there.
Schmitz is the only thing that I've found
in the supermarket slash drugstore
that I would actually use.
For me, it passes kind of my quality test.
So I've been using it.
It is a three on the Think Dirty app.
It really doesn't have that bad of ingredients.
And this brand is a little bit kind of less expensive.
So if you're looking to start somewhere,
I think this is a good brand to start out at.
It is a plant-based body wash with argan oil,
seaweed, and antioxidants.
It says no artificial fragrances.
And one thing to know, artificial fragrances
and fragrances in general, if it just says perfume,
not a really great thing to go for.
You wanna know where that perfume
and that fragrance is coming from
because that is where a lot of bad things can be
is in that little word fragrance.
You don't know what they're putting in the product.
Okay, next up is something that you're going to wanna keep
in your house.
This is the Dr. Bronner's Unscented Pure Castor Baby Soap.
So I actually have the baby version
because I was watching Becca Bristow.
She made a face wash and makeup remover wipes with this.
But there are like a hundred, a million plus things
you can do with this product.
So I actually keep this in my shower.
I'll foam it up and use it as something to shave with.
I will use it as a body wash.
I'll kind of go back and forth
between this one and the Schmitz one.
And then you can also use it to cleanse things.
You can turn this into a hand soap, laundry detergent.
It also has a huge list of things
that you can do right off the bat.
It is concentrated.
So you're gonna wanna dilute it
with anything that you end up doing.
Their website has a whole list of things
that you can do with this.
So it's a great buy.
I think it's about $11.
I got the bigger size.
And just right off the bat,
you can use it as an all-purpose cleaner.
Shaving, you can mop the floor with it.
You can wash your dog with it.
You can do it for laundry.
Do hand wash dishes.
You can use it as an organic hair rinse.
And you can use it for your hands, face, and body.
So it's really awesome.
This is a two on the Think Dirty website.
But I do see that Live Less Toxic uses this.
And she is a big advocate for living non-toxic.
It passes my test.
So I really love this.
Definitely recommend it.
Next up, I just wanted to talk about razors really quick.
So razors are something that you would think
you really don't have to worry about.
But they actually have this little tiny thing
that you might not even know is a soap strip.
So it varies between razors
on how much soap they actually put on the razor,
depending on if you get a bougie one or a cheaper one.
Inside that little soap strip are so many toxic chemicals.
Now think about every time you wipe your leg
with that razor, every time you're shaving,
think about how it hits your armpits.
Armpits are a really vulnerable spot for your body.
So I actually learned about this
from Organic Bunny's Instagram.
She brought awareness to this on her story.
She probably still has it on her Instagram.
She actually uses a razor that you replace the blades
and you keep the razor, which is a great sustainable way.
The razor is, I think, about like upward of $200.
So I haven't gone there yet.
So I'll just use a kind of cheap razor
that I can afford right now.
I mean, eventually I'd love to buy one of those
and then use my Dr. Bronner's
to make sure it's kind of a smooth shave.
So that's what I end up doing.
Okay, next up is deodorant.
So I do want to say that all people are different
when it comes to deodorant.
Some people have, you know, a stronger BO
that they're trying to tame.
So there are brands out there.
You have to make sure
that you are not greenwashed by the deodorant
because all deodorants are trying to do it now.
They're adding essential oils to their products.
Their whole brand name is based on earth and green
but it's really not green.
You have to be aware of that.
I started out with a Schmitt's deodorant.
I haven't tried anything else out
just because this is where I've started
but I do like this one.
This is the Rose and Vanilla.
No aluminum, no propylene glycol,
no artificial fragrances.
It's a natural deodorant and it works pretty well for me
but I know a lot of people have different issues
with different deodorants.
So you really have to kind of play around.
This is a product that you're going to have to kind of test out
and make sure it works for you.
I know people who really can't even move to a clean deodorant
because it doesn't work
but there are options out there.
This product is a zero on the Think Dirty app.
I have two screenshots here.
One says it's a three, one says it's a zero.
The thing that's actually making this a three
is the natural fragrance
probably because I don't know what's in it.
So that's where, you know,
I said that's a little iffy fragrances can be hard
if the company isn't really relying
what really is in their fragrance.
Three is good enough for me.
I've been using this, it's inexpensive
but when this is over
I'm probably going to move to something else
because I do want to keep trying brands out
and really kind of learning what's out there.
Okay, next up is another product from Schmitz as well.
This is the toothpaste.
So this is the Wonder Mint toothpaste.
I actually love this toothpaste so much.
It's a really great minty toothpaste.
So toothpaste is one thing that I do want to mention
is one of those household products
that you've been using for so long.
All these different, you know, household names
that you've been using,
your dentist has been giving you
every time you go to the dentist,
don't use them.
They are not good for you.
You want to step away from them.
So go try a new toothpaste
and I promise you it might take a little bit time
to get used to this
but once you're done using those really bad toothpastes
you're not even going to taste the difference.
You're not even going to know
that this is a natural product.
This one is a zero on the Think Dirty app.
There are a few things that are three
but still pass the test for me.
But I definitely recommend stepping away
from those household toothpastes
that you've been using for forever.
And then to pair with that,
let's talk about mouthwash.
So you know the brand, let's say Listerine.
Don't do it.
Just don't do it.
Don't buy it because
I don't know if you want to know
what it is on the Think Dirty app.
Let's check it out.
I don't have this on screenshot it
so we're going to do this live here.
So Listerine mouthwash is about a five to six.
Let's see if we can find anything.
It has a polo, I don't even know, 407.
It has dye.
It has methyl salicylate
which has an FDA warning.
So yeah, don't do it.
So I just wanted to add that in here.
I don't actually have a natural one
that I've been using that I absolutely love
that I can share.
I have looked on the Think Dirty app
just to recommend one to you guys
and there is a Tom's of Maine mouthwash,
peppermint mouthwash that is a zero
on the Think Dirty app.
So next we're going to talk about laundry,
doing your laundry, laundry detergents,
all of that.
So I recommend checking out Hyde
on the Think Dirty app.
You might be surprised, you might not
but these household names
that we're so used to,
really I challenge you to step back
and take a look at what's inside of them
and make the switch.
So I want to just mention,
I don't have a laundry detergent
that I'm using now that I love.
I have been using the All Free and Clear
so free of dyes and fragrances
but I do just kind of challenge you
to see what you're using now
and how good it is for you.
Go vet it on EWG and Think Dirty
but I do want to recommend a way
for you to use like a dryer sheet
without using a dryer sheet.
You can get regular dryer sheets
that don't have any scents in them
but if you like the scents,
you can get these wool dryer balls
which is actually a reusable dryer sheet
and then you can dab some essential oil on there.
You can either dab it
or you can put it in a spray bottle and mist it.
It gives you that natural fragrance
and you can do like two to three of these if you want
and then it'll give your clothes a nice smell
but then again, you really don't need the smells.
Like if your clothes are clean,
your clothes are clean.
The dryer and the washer did their job, you know?
Okay, next thing I'm talking about is feminine products.
So if you're a guy, you might want to click off.
I don't know if you want to hear this.
But I, you know, being sustainable
and also cleaner in this way is a good one.
So if you didn't know,
there are sometimes tampons use bleach
and other chemicals and think about it,
you're sticking something up there
and it's not good for you.
You want it to be clean.
So there is a few brands out there
that are actually taking the initiative
to make a clean, non-toxic, all natural tampon.
Don't know why I switched to an accent but I did.
So yes, there are tampons that you can use out there
but to be even more sustainable,
I switched to a menstrual cup.
So this is not sponsored,
just sharing the one that I got.
You can switch to a menstrual cup
and then just a disclaimer,
I actually, mine leaks a little bit
so I still have to buy tampons.
I just don't buy them as much as I used to,
which is awesome.
I like to use this at home.
I would not use this at work
because like I said, it does leak
and I don't want to have to change it at work.
But this is the Lina menstrual cup.
There's a bunch of brands out there.
It is made BPA free.
It's 100% medical grade silicone.
It's good for you, good for the environment.
Comes with a little baggie that you can store it in
and I actually have two sizes.
They had really great customer service by the way
because this one didn't work.
So they actually sent me the bigger size for free.
So I think this is a good brand.
I mean, I've tried it out.
I haven't tried other brands.
I like this one a lot.
I think it was about $30 to $40, but it is worth it.
You're not going to have to spend the money on tampons
every single time you have your period.
It is a great alternative.
I also plan on doing a whole video dedicated
to easy switches to be sustainable
and more healthy and clean regarding your period.
I will link that down below once that's up.
Okay, next up, I want to talk about vitamins.
I'm going to be sharing a brand
that is actually my mom's brand
that I've helped her kind of do graphic design for.
So I actually, I do want to share
that I'm affiliated with the owner
because it's my mom, obviously.
The company is called Spectra Spray
and so she basically has a line of spray vitamins.
So they are all natural.
They have really great ingredients in them.
Nothing that's really bad.
No binders or fillers, no artificial flavors,
no dyes, no artificial coloring.
So my favorite three are the B12 Energy,
the Immune Spray, and the D3 Spray.
And then obviously the hand sanitizer
you spray on your hand.
It's also a surface sanitizer
so you can spray it anywhere, which is so great for now.
Made with citronella and lavender, non-drying.
I actually designed the labels and their website.
So if you want to go check them out,
they're a new product.
But I did want to add this in here
because a lot of people are taking vitamins
that have a lot of crap in them.
Gummy vitamins have a lot of crap in them.
There are some gummy vitamins that are good,
but everyone's on this huge gummy vitamin kick
and a lot of vitamins are really not good.
You really have to make sure
that what you're getting is good for you.
And you also want to make sure
that there is a good enough amount
of what you're actually getting in there.
So like vitamin C gummies,
they might only have a little bit of vitamin C in them
and the rest of it is all the crap and the sugar.
You have to watch out for that.
One thing that's great about the spray vitamins,
they have the highest absorption
of any vitamin intake on the market.
So better than pills and capsules, gummies, all of that.
Pills, patches, injections.
So literally, B12.
Don't need to inject yourself with anything.
Just spray it in your mouth four times on each side
and you're ready to go.
Literally so easy.
Obviously there are other brands out there.
I'm just bringing awareness.
I want you guys to make sure
that the vitamins you are taking are natural,
not full of sugar, not full of crap
because a lot of vitamin brands tend to greenwash
in the sense that they say that they're good,
but they're really not that great
and they like to hide all the bad ingredients
in the little fine print.
Just make sure that you're aware of that.
Okay, next up, I want to talk about candles.
When I was in high school,
I would always go to Bath & Body Works
and smell the candles with my friends
and buy a bunch of candles.
But if you didn't know,
there's actually a lot of toxic chemicals
and fragrance in candles.
What I've done is I still have candles.
I still like candles.
Definitely vet the candles that you're using.
But if you want to be more aware
of what you're putting into the air,
I actually got a diffuser for Christmas from my mom.
So you can actually find a cheap diffuser
in like Marshalls or TJ Maxx
and I would recommend getting
higher quality essential oils.
Mine are from doTERRA.
I have this and I'll just kind of put a few drops
in my diffuser, light it up, it changes colors
and I love to use it at night when I go to bed.
It's almost like a sound machine.
But I'll just kind of have it on when,
just like a candle pretty much.
I'll just have it on when I want to.
Okay, you guys.
So that is the end of this video.
I know it was a long one.
I hope you stuck till the end.
If you have any other recommendations,
if you're switching to clean beauty products
and you found things that you really like,
let me know in the comments.
Let's help each other out.
That would be awesome.
I also plan on doing a part two
once I have enough products to talk about.
Maybe I'll kind of section it off
into kind of makeup and skincare and all that.
So let me know what you guys want to see.
Also, don't forget to subscribe if you like this video
and check out my Instagram.
I'll be updating you, like I said in the beginning,
real time of the products that I have bought
