hey i am shocked somoene is telling me that you have been through kidney surgery pls clearify or its a kind of some fake news
1 0 3 5 KTU, the beat of New York.
It's Carolina Bermudez with Greg T in the morning and Selena Gomez.
Thank you.
We are so excited to see you.
So excited to have you here.
I'm so excited to be here.
Well, it's been four years.
I think I haven't been counting or anything.
Has it been that long?
It's been four years, Selena.
So tell us all about it.
Now, you were like breaking the social media last week
because you released your first single.
Lose you to love me.
Tell us about the writing process,
because you did that with Julia Michaels, right?
Yes. And Justin Tranter.
OK, so those they're I mean, they're my people for life.
They did good for you with me.
It was a whole like they've been the people I can feel the safest
with when I'm saying things out loud, when I'm kind of processing
thoughts that I have.
So I just remember Julia texted me and she she said, hey,
what's your vibe today?
Before I met up with her and I was like, I just don't really feel
I don't feel up for something fun.
And I barely even wanted to go in, truthfully.
And then when I got there, it mean the song came together
like over 30 without I wouldn't want to say 45 minutes.
We wrote the song.
Isn't that crazy how something like that can just come together?
And I think that you just touched on it, right?
Because you trust them.
Yeah, I feel like you can be so open and vulnerable.
That's when it happened.
One hundred percent.
And they've actually walked through so much of that with me.
And yeah, and I mean, it was literally me talking
like I was just crying and talking and then we pieced it all together.
And it just we knew it was special.
We were like, wow, this is such a beautiful song.
I'm like, yeah, it's it's great.
I'd never in a million years would have thought that it would have received.
Like this, like it is incredible.
Yeah, it's overwhelming.
And honestly, I still get kind of shaky with it
because it's been four years since I've done radio, since I've done anything.
And I'm so happy to be back.
And I feel great being back.
But I almost forgot how to do it.
So I'm like, no, you're fine.
See, last time you were here, I had a different co-host.
Next time you come, maybe the sky will be gone again.
I forget how to do it every day, every every weekend.
I forget. And then on Monday, I have to remind myself how to run things.
Let me ask you something.
So how hard is it to sit down and start writing a song?
Like you jot down notes throughout your every day.
Like, does something just come to you and then you put into your text messages
or how did all of a sudden you sit down to go write and you have a blank paper?
Where does it come from?
Well, yeah, occasionally, if I'm if I have a thought
or if I have a word or something, I'll just do it on my notes on my phone.
But as far as sitting down and writing,
yeah, we actually just keep the microphone going
and we kind of ad lib and we start, you know, coming up with melodies.
And then after that, we we start figuring out what that vibe is.
Sometimes we'll just scratch it all and start over again.
But that's usually how I work best.
I have to feel music before I can write.
Well, I feel like it was like a one, two punch because you gave us
this like really raw, powerful, like just, oh, my gosh, like this amazing song.
And then you also gave us like a little dance bop, you know, like Greg T
wants to learn all the moves.
Oh, man. He's ready to go.
I've got two left feet. I need a good teacher.
I love it. I can do my best.
Was that a calculated thing?
Like, did you guys decide that, OK, we're going to give the people
kind of something that's like original and something that they've been
wanting to hear from me and then also like a little
a little bit more of like an uplifting number?
Yeah, it was it was it was my idea.
And when I went to the John Janik, my label and said to them,
I want to do both at the same time, it usually doesn't go well.
And they weren't stoked about it.
So I agreed to pick lose you to love me first.
And stuff happened and we were supposed to release it earlier
and it didn't work out.
And then I said to them, I just felt it in my gut.
I said, well, this happened for a reason.
So I'm going to speak up.
And I said, I have to do both because the rest of the record is one thousand
percent just full of colors and fun and vulnerability and strength.
But these two needed to be at the same time
or it just wouldn't have worked for me.
And I wouldn't have put the other one on the album.
So, well, personally, leading up to it, I enjoyed so much
seeing the social media throwbacks that you were putting up there.
The little baby Selena.
I was like, oh, my gosh, I could not handle all of it.
So bad. No, it's not bad at all.
But you ever reminisce and you ever look at that little girl and be like,
I mean, because it was one caption that you wrote.
And I was like, oh, my God, I'm feeling her on this one.
Like, you know, that you you had no idea what was ahead. Right.
I feel like, um, yeah, I feel like it's weird.
I have to be honest. It's a weird feeling.
But my Nana took those pictures, you know, and it's just
it's just so sweet because she is proud of me for that reason.
And I yeah, I mean, I was very dramatic as a kid. I'll give you that.
But then, yeah, I started working at seven right after that.
It just was amazing.
Speaking of reminiscing, I got a question for you.
OK, if you had the chance, if you can go back and spend ten minutes
in the past of a moment that you really, really love.
Would you rather go do that or would you rather be able to see the future
of what is what's in the future there for Selena Gomez
and get ten minutes of the future?
Which one would you choose?
Past. Really? Yeah. See, that's how I am, too.
I love to reminisce.
I love to go back.
And I feel like, you know, not a lot of people told me, hey,
take your time, take your time.
And then all of a sudden you get to a certain point
and you feel like you missed out on some things in my childhood, you know?
And I wish I could go back and just take this one moment and capture it again.
Yeah. And that's how you feel.
Yeah. I don't want to know what's going to happen.
Yeah. Because when you make a plan, it doesn't end up happening anyway.
That's what they say. It's like you plan.
God laughs. Yeah, exactly. So true.
Now, is there one person that you go to, like a person that you trust
and that you feel like, OK, I can send this to them
and it's not going to get leaked or anything?
Is there one particular person that you send things to?
Really? Yeah. Yeah.
I've always done that.
So that's like true, because a lot of people hear that.
And so professionally, you guys are obviously like peers
and you feel like you can trust her with that.
Yeah. Did you send her the first single?
Yeah, actually. And when I got the videos, I got to go and show her and her parents.
And it was like it was so cute because we all got on the couch
and all the lights were turned down and just seeing Andrea, her mom
and seeing Taylor react that way was one of the sweetest moments.
That's how it is for us.
When they took headshots, I sent them to Taylor as well.
And I'm like, which ones do you like of Carolina and myself?
She was like, you know, this one, you're smiling better in.
And I was like, oh, thanks, Taylor.
Equally, though, like when you heard lover for the first time, did you feel that
or were you with her when you heard it? 100 percent.
Yeah, it's actually it's so sweet when I do think about everything we've been through.
And somebody asked me and played me this message from her.
And I got really emotional because you have friends for life, you know,
and I've known her since I remember she played me.
Which one was it? Earless.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Before it came out.
And I remember that feeling, because ever since then we have been best friends
and to see where I am and then for to see where I am is such a beautiful.
It's just like what a cool moment to be able to hear before the whole world
here or something like that.
And it's so and I and I'm like a major fan at the same time.
Oh, that's great.
Makes you feel better.
I'm like, I need to hear this.
That's awesome.
Really quickly, we're going to go to break, but I personally want to thank you.
I last night for the first time watched Living Undocumented
and I went to bed with a lump in my throat.
I know that you have been executive producing other projects.
This in particular for me as a Latina, it means a lot.
What made you want to get involved with something like that?
It's actually just how it works out.
I have to be honest.
I don't want to.
I think for me, meeting with people and hearing their stories is how I operate.
So when they came and they showed me a sizzle reel, I immediately jumped on board.
It wasn't with any particular outlet yet.
And I thought it was a beautiful story.
And I just saw a clip of it.
So then they spent a year following these families and to see it put together.
I mean, it's probably one of the proudest moments I've had
because I knew that it would come with a lot.
But I mean, that's my family.
That's I wouldn't be here to be honest.
And so it's I'm really grateful that we were able to get that out.
Well, I was just I wanted to make sure that I touched on that
because I was so grateful for it.
And I thought, you know what?
In the industry that you're working in, you could receive a lot of backlash
for jumping on board with something like that.
So for those people who haven't seen it, Netflix living undocumented,
it is really special not to take anything away from 13 reasons
because it's lovely as well.
But, you know, I just thought it was so well done.
And last night, I'm only one episode in.
So I'm going to be committed to it.
I'm going to get harder. Absolutely.
So, Selena, we have been having so much fun with you.
We wanted to talk to you about so many other things.
Number one on my list.
You're a huge Shark Tank fan. Major.
I could not believe that you got to go to Shark Tank.
I know. Like who arranged it?
Tell me everything. It was I felt like a little kid.
I was supposed to go for just an hour or so, and I stayed till they wrapped.
That's great. Till they wrapped.
I was obsessed and locked in.
It just it's so cool to to be able
to be a part of something like that or just to watch from afar,
because these people and I would cry when they'd get deals.
I'm like fully in it.
Every Friday night. I'm like a blubbering mess.
I know. It's so it's just so fun.
And I come up with an idea of yourself.
You're like, oh, my God, I got to put this on Shark Tank.
And you know, come on.
There's got to be something.
Great to tell her about Mr. Office.
You never know.
She could want to be an investor in Mr.
I'm so embarrassed. Rejected a million times.
I'm so embarrassed about this.
I had this great idea.
I cannot believe we're telling her this.
Tell me. You know what?
I truly believe that a lot of people, they spend a lot of time in the bathroom.
Right. It's not going to get gross,
but they do a lot of things in the bathroom here.
Text messaging or emailing or whatever.
Right. But there's like nowhere to really put stuff down
and maybe on the sink if you can.
So I felt like if you had a little something on the side of the toilet,
you'd wheel it out in front of you, maybe like a music stand.
And then you would like kind of like bend it in the proper position.
You need it. You can put your newspaper there.
Maybe like, oh, I heard you.
Mr. Office, you can put like your coffee cup there.
Yeah. Maybe you're, you know, a place for your phone.
We don't spend that much time in there.
That's why that's a guy thing.
When I could spend an hour in the bathroom.
See? Absolutely not.
So it's the Mr. Office and everybody wants one.
So you have it there.
So, you know, like, you know, your kids might say, hey, mom, where's dad?
Oh, you know, he's in the office. Yeah.
So now you have Mr.
I have truly never. Yes.
All right. I can't believe that we tell her that.
We have some fan questions that came in.
If we could ask you, Arianna from Brooklyn is asking.
We're all dying to know, are you going to do a tour?
And if so, when?
And that's the thing.
Yeah, exactly.
And actually, we haven't discussed it, so there isn't a definite answer.
OK, but I will say that it's something that I I love doing.
I mean, it's something I feel like it's so important for me to do.
And I and I like it.
It's it's just considering my health
and making sure that I have the stamina and the mental capacity of handling it.
So, yeah, and I'm not, you know, saying I'll never do that, of course.
But it's it was hard for me, for sure.
OK. And Gina from Paramus, New Jersey, is asking.
Everyone knows your close friends with Jennifer Aniston.
Have you followed her on Instagram yet?
Wait. Yeah. OK.
And I was like, what does it present?
She broke Instagram, too.
You guys have in common.
Oh, God.
What is that like when you break Instagram?
That's got to be pretty cool, right?
I don't know.
I would love to break Instagram.
What do I have to do?
Breaks plenty of other things.
She went on to continue as one of the queen's events.
Did you have any advice to give her to give her?
Yes. Oh, man.
No, she's honestly, of course not.
But she's hysterical when she was talking about releasing one.
She she would. She's so sweet.
She'd put her glasses on and she'd be scrolling.
Oh, my gosh.
It's just like, I don't know.
I don't understand this.
It was just like so cool because she's taught me a lot.
And I love her advice and everything.
I didn't give her advice.
It was just adorable to watch her do it.
I love that. I love how she did the thing.
Like my sister does that, too.
Like my sister will pull the phone back.
Yeah, she'll like scroll up a little bit.
Yeah. Falun from Staten Island is asking Taylor Swift posted
that she's obsessed with lose you to love me.
Still dying to know when you're going to collaborate.
I don't know. I mean, it's never like.
It's never we it's not that it wasn't a thought
or it hasn't been, obviously, but it's always
we always are respecting what one another is doing.
So, for instance, like having her album come out and this stuff.
And that's hers.
That's all hers.
And I want it to be.
And it's the same thing that she feels.
So I don't think there would I don't know.
I don't know if we would.
Well, but you know what it is.
It's like why put a definitive answer on it?
You never know what you could collaborate on fashion or something else.
It doesn't even have to be music, you know, with what you guys do.
So but that would be lovely.
Alicia from the Bronx is asking what current male or female artist
would you love to collaborate with?
Hmm. Her.
Oh, she's amazing.
Wow. That tells us a lot about what your vibe is right now, too.
You know, like where your head is at.
You know, that's my vibe.
Absolutely. Lose you to love me.
It's out now. Look at her now. It's out now.
We can't wait to see what you're up to next.
Selena Gomez, everybody at KTU.
Thank you. New York.
One oh three five KTU.
