P12 - Container Masters_S01E12_Emptynester.UMMU.NET

Can you believe that? So unfortunately, you're not unanimous. But the good thing is, you still have a job. My vote wasn't unanimous, and I'm not really sure why. I can guarantee you, I did not vote against Hayden. I absolutely, positively, 100% did not vote against Hayden. I did not vote against Hayden. Every time you walk by, you can just grin and know that you passed, and you passed your initiation, and you're part of the team, and the main thing is, we're really glad to have you, because you're a great worker, and just don't let this not-unanimous thing get to you. With no one admitting to a nay vote, the mystery deepens. Somebody voted against me on my navy carving, and I'm not sure who it was, but I'm going to find out. Hayden may not have received a unanimous vote, which shows that not everyone wins. But today, you win, because right now, we're going to give you a special tour of a highly functional, energy efficient, fully finished container home. This container home has traveled across the U.S., and has been featured at many home shows. This is a single 40-foot container with a staggered roof line. Here is the master bedroom. It has light switches for the reading lights on each side of the bed. The bed sits on a built-in platform that has ample storage beneath it. The bed platform is optional if you prefer to simply put a bed in here, and there is also an option to have a Murphy bed installed. The options are almost unlimited as far as what you do with the space and with your bed in the bedroom. The master bedroom also has a full closet. As you walk through the home, you can see the living area. You have many options for the walls and ceiling. You can put whatever type of paneling you desire on the walls. What you see here is a wood cedar ceiling and tongue and groove siding on the walls. You can paint any color that you desire. You can also opt for a corrugated metal ceiling or whatever you would find in any standard home. Anything can be customized to your taste. The same thing with the floor. The floor in this container home model is an engineered wood floor. And there are multiple types of flooring that can be installed in a container home. From different colors, shapes, sizes and different widths of wood planks or combinations or tile. Really, there are so many options to fit your needs. This is the kitchen, and it surprises most people that there are full-size appliances here. You have a dishwasher. Your full-size oven range and microwave. And you have a full-size refrigerator freezer. You have a very large farmer's sink. And people love the farmer's sink. You can put whatever type of sink you want in here. In this model, there is a washer-dryer combo. And if you don't want that, you can opt for a stackable washer and dryer. As you can see, there's ample space in the kitchen with cabinets up above and cabinets down below. So plenty of storage for your utensils, your pots and pans, and plenty of LED lighting around the entire workspace and kitchen area. It's a very efficient galley kitchen. This is the loft. And as you can see, the stairs that go up to the loft are extremely durable and strong. There is also a neat work or computer area. There is great use of space underneath the stairs. You can see multiple cabinets that open, offering additional storage and electric plug-ins. Some of the storage spaces have glass fronts. Or you can have them with solid wood panels. Or if you like, they can remain open cubbies or a combination thereof. As you go up to the loft, this can be used as a loft for additional sleeping space or for storage. There is space for a flat-screen TV along the wall. There's easy access to the light switch by the bed. And there are windows that open and close to create ventilation. And toward the back of the loft is an incredible amount of storage space with deep pockets. Another option for this container is to build without the loft. By eliminating the loft, the space would open up from floor to ceiling. Most people are surprised to see that there is a full bathroom in this container home. There is a modern sink with storage underneath the sink. There is a toilet and a full bathtub combination shower. You can do whatever you want in this space. You can have a tub or go with just a walk-in shower or a half shower. You can choose tile, corrugated steel, stainless steel or a shower insert. The floor of this bathroom is tile, but you can do whatever you want. In this home is an energy-efficient Mitsubishi mini-split, which provides heat and air conditioning. The container home itself is quite energy-efficient. It has R14 insulation in the floors and the walls, and that insulation can be increased to R28 if needed for colder climates. And it has R28 in the ceiling. These are very energy-efficient homes, and it does not cost much to heat or cool this smaller space. Hope you enjoyed this tour. Life isn't always fair, and you can take that to the bank. As Hayden found out, sometimes the votes just don't fall your way. You can choose to move on and make the most of the situation, or you can hold a grudge and stew over it, which will only cause you stress. Something else that you can take to the bank? Stress is your enemy. Avoid it, minimize it, and eliminate it. You'll be much happier, and you'll live longer. This goes here, right?
