The homestand finale the Pirates
will hit the road and take on
two of the best teams in
baseball the Cubs and the
Tigers coming up in an
opportunity to make this not
only a winning homestand but
back to back series wins for
the Pirates here with a win
today.
Bailey Falter is 14th start just
under a three point five ERA
nine and two thirds forty three
strikeouts that nice 220
opponent average Xavier Edwards
steps in pitch to the game with
Hayes drawn in and third puts
him out on one pitch.
So Falter is seeing Augustine
Ramirez now the two hitting D.H.
The end of the bat to Reynolds
in right three pitches and two
outs.
That's a great start.
You're Roberto Hernandez the
right fielder two for four on
Monday didn't play last night.
That is walloped on a line into
left field that's down for a
base hit and it's chasing
Frazier towards the corner throw
coming in towards second is not
in time.
You better keep him in the darn
lineup every day.
It's a double for Hernandez
gets a fastball and he's
absolutely killing the fastball.
And that one was hit pretty
hard.
That'll bring Otto Lopez to the
plate.
He's riding a five game hitting
streak right now called third
strike at the bottom of the
zone.
Splinter no fastballs for Otto
Cal on a one year three and a
half million dollar deal with
the Marlins.
He makes his 13th start in
Marlins uniform Cal three and
six with a five six three ERA
O'Neal Cruz leads off bottom of
the first for the Pirates last
night as Ethan to get back.
He crushed his 13th home run of
the season liner to well and
over Lopez a base hit for Cruz
going the other way to start.
You know and these are the kind
of swings that that you have to
go to.
I call it your B or C swing at
times.
O'Neal Cruz is going good.
You see a lot a lot more of this
Andrew McCutchen.
Speaking of Red Hot Runner goes
fly ball in the air left center
field.
Dave Meyers making his 28th start
of the season in center today
puts the squeeze on out number
one here with the bottom of the
first that'll bring the switch
hitting right field.
There were the veteran Brian
Reynolds to the plate for
Pittsburgh's Reynolds sprays one
into left field that is peeling
a little bit on Sanoha but he
makes the catch and fires it
back into the infield is out
number two.
And now Horwitz three to pitch
that one cut on and missed.
He was late on a ninety five
mile an hour fastball from Cal
Quattro one of his hardest of
the year and a high heat blown
by Horwitz to strain a man at
second in the bottom of the
second inning.
Nick Gonzalez steps in that
right hand batter's box to pitch
line drive base hit center field
for Nicky G.
Second time the pirates get
their leadoff man on Frazier who
has four hits in the series.
Shot up the middle Lopez has
got it steps on the bag throw to
first in time in a double play
turn by the Marlins one hopped
its way to Otto.
He picked it up on a short hop.
He ran it to the second base bag
himself to get the lead man
Gonzalez and then he fired the
first to get Frazier in plenty
of time.
That's a six to three double
play ball or two way two outs.
Nothing nothing.
Bottom of the second.
Here's Henry Davis going the
opposite way on that slider and
a two hour single for Henry
Davis.
Henry Davis just continuing to
look more and more comfortable
every day.
He's getting it back.
Nice work Davis.
Here's Brian Hayes.
Ball in the air to shallow right
field that's going to get down
for a base hit.
It's a lob wedge in the shallow
right puts runners at first and
third.
That was nice.
Two outs he had Davis just taken
off at contact.
He actually got in a position
where he's rounding thirds in
case there was a little mess up
out there in the outfield.
Isaiah Connor Vallejo Hayes will
run trying to induce the throw
he does and that yields a run
for the pirates work to
perfection.
We'll take a freebie.
There's no doubt about that.
Put some pressure on the defense
in some instances you see this
happen.
You see Brian Hayes stop.
He did that on purpose to see if
he could elicit a bad throw or
try to get a rundown and score
that runner Henry Davis and
third.
He gets one of those and that's
what we're calling Donny ball.
Oh man for the fourth here in
Pittsburgh the pirates lead the
Marlins one nothing.
There's one down here's Adam
Frazier swing and a miss and a
cutter up in a way strike three
that is four strikeouts for
Cuadro two down in the fourth.
Henry Davis can do something big
here.
Second inning he's single to
right center one to coming.
Called strike three with a
splitter that catches the bottom
of the zone and Cuadro works a
one two three four.
He's got five punch outs fifth
inning Connor Norby leads off
against Bailey Falter pirates
lead at one nothing for four
innings is like eight holes.
The way he's pitching right now
he's birdied the first eight
Norby down on strikes.
Beautiful slider right there.
He's in complete control right
now.
Joe I mean look where this
starts.
Basically on the outer edge to
the righty and ends up on the
inner half or even off the plate.
Truthfully Dane Myers and three
to.
Oh look what I found line right
back to Falter ball stuck in his
glove.
Yeah I would say the scouting
reported did not do that much
good today.
I don't think he moved his glove
at all.
Now it's Nick Fortes.
It's a ground ball hit through
the left side to base it for
Nick.
He's two for two today to knock
that brings up Javier Sanoja
sizable lead at first and Sanoja
Yates that fair over the bag at
third rolling down the left
field line.
It hits that jut out and Fortes
will arrive safely at third a
double for Javier Sanoja who's
been a trouble for Bailey
Falter two outs.
He has to get one here third
time up for Xavier Edwards and
his three one pitch taking the
inside ball for bases loaded for
Augustine.
So Falter who was it just 38
pitches through the first four
innings a twenty three pitch
inning so far Augustine Ramirez
with the bases loaded and a line
drive to right field and right
at Reynolds who makes the catch
side relief for Falter bottom
half of the fifth inning for the
Pirates one nothing Bucs and
that is ball for a fastball
away.
It's first and second
opportunity for the Pirates to
add to a lead here two on four
McCutchen pitch drive to left
center field.
So no one going back to the
track looking up and it is gone.
And there it is.
Andrew McCutchen in third place
all by himself only Sturgill and
Kiner ahead of Andrew McCutchen
on the all time Pirates home run
list to forty one and that was a
big one.
It is for nothing in the fifth
Andrew McCutchen and this crowd
will no doubt want to ask him to
come back out as he goes down
the dugout steps.
They're aware of it.
Historical moment at PNC Park
Andrew McCutchen asking for a
curtain call.
We're in the top of the sixth
inning it's for nothing Pirates
part of the order for the
Marlins again Bailey Falter
lefty Roberto Hernandez right
hand batter Roberto Hernandez
sends one high and deep to
center field Cruz going back
warning track wall looking up
gone Roberto Hernandez the only
Marlin that's been able to crack
Bailey Falter today it's his
second extra base hit.
It's his first major league home
run and it comes here in the top
of the sixth inning.
Well he hit it in the perfect
spot to be able to get his first
home run ball right in that
Marlin bullpen.
And just like McCutchen got a
hanging splitter so did
Hernandez.
How about this road trip that he
has had.
Now it's Braxton Ashcraft the
rookie righty.
The Marlins have managed first
and third trailing by three with
one away here in the sixth
Sanchez is the potential tying
run.
Boxing ball to first off the
middle of Horowitz he recovers
only plays to first for the out
Wagamans scores from third
Norby to second and the Marlins
have plated their second run of
the inning they're down four to
two now the top of the six from
the bottom of the eighth inning
as Adam Frazier comes to the
plate and the bases loaded with
one out in the air the other way
and coming over to make the
catch the left fielder Sanchez
tagging and scoring is Reynolds
ball cut off sack fly for
Frazier.
Pirates take a five to lead in
the eighth.
Nice job going the other way.
You know Frazier does that well
anyway.
Pirates scoring easily there
pirates are leading five to
ninth inning.
David Bednar comes on to try and
get the save for Bailey Falter
two down in the nine years
Xavier Edwards to pitch swing
and a miss.
He struck him out with ninety
eight heat and heat might define
the pirates heating up and one
will remember for a long time
with Andrew McCutchen hitting
the three run home run.
