Hello our citizens. My name is Chris and
welcome to Brain Education TV. Today
we're going to move into some advanced
balance work. We've done some basic and
some intermediate. Now we're moving into
some advanced work. So we still can use
our support if we need to. It'll make it
accessible to everybody of all levels,
but we want to move towards using it
without. So we're going to come into a
little bit of just getting ourselves
warmed up. A little bit of review. Start
to walk shifting your weight over to
your right foot. And then the am the
left leg becomes light. You can lift it
and then shift your center over to the
left side. So we're just going to gently
walk from foot to foot. Take a little
slow walk. Focus on your center, your
second chakra, your dan. Moving it from
foot to foot. When it's centered, our
balance can feel more secure, more
stable.
You still might feel a little fatigue.
How are your ankles? How are your knees?
How are your hips? Are you feeling
tension in your back? So, as you start
to walk mindfully, slowly, you really
get a lot of information from your body.
Now, we start to shift. We start to
move. Good. So, can I be aware of my
center?
Today's focus is on moving but
maintaining our center. That's advanced
balance. We're going to go one more step
to each
side and over. And then relax. Settle
into your
feet. So when I I'm standing on two
feet, I want my center between my feet.
Then I feel very secure. And then when
we start to move balance, we need to
shift the center to the other to the
surface that we're going to stand on.
And then we can shift it back so we get
that sense. So now we're going to start
to use a little bit of assistance here.
If you don't need it, feel free to
challenge yourself. And when I use the
assistance, I want to keep a soft upper
body. Many people once they grab, they
hold or they put a lot of weight into it
or they build tension in their body. I
want to try to stay as relaxed and use
as little help as I need. The challenge
is to get off the training wheels at
some point. So now what we're going to
do is we're going to shift over to this
right foot. I move my center over and
then I want to lift up this left leg. So
now this leg is empty. My center is over
my foot. If I want to challenge, I can
sink in a little deeper, get a little
lower, little wobble. And then I want to
get a sense of where my center is. If I
move it off my foot, I'm going to
wobble. I'm going to need more help. So,
I want to find that. Now, what I'm going
to do is I'm going to start to step,
move my foot
forward. I like to call this one north.
And then I'm going to take my foot and
reach back as far as I can and just kiss
my toes together. Almost no weight. Just
touch it. Good. And then I'm going to
come back in. And then I'm going to take
my foot out to the east. So, as far as I
can and then I'm going to take my foot
and reach behind me and touch to the
west. Good. So, we're going to do that
once again. So, I'm going to go
north. I'm going to go
south. I'm going to go out to the east.
And I'm going to reach behind me to the
west. And then I'm going to come back
into the center. I'm going to hold. Now,
what I need to be aware of is where my
center is. If I reach east and my center
comes out, I'm going to fall or I'm
going to have to use a lot of weight.
So, can I maintain my center as I
travel? Now, I'm going to bring my
weight down. So, you might feel that the
standing leg got a little tired. That
was a long time, but that's where we
build the strength. So, now we're going
to come over and then we're going to
lift up that right leg. So, still use as
little weight as I can. Now that I'm up,
I want to reach out north.
Then I want to reach back south. So try
not to put any weight and keep your
center over this foot and then out. This
one's going to go west first to the
outside and then we're going to go back
to east behind me. So as I get a little
bit stronger, I can reach a little
further. I can reach back a little bit
more. And as I do, I still want little
weight. Some of you are going to put
little tension, but we want to graduate
away from the tension out to
the side here. Keep my djan over my foot
and then out
behind. Good. And then coming in and
then hold. So feel how this leg, the
standing leg is feeling strengthwise.
Tired. Is your ankle
wobbling? That means the ligaments and
tendon need to get a little stronger.
Now coming back into your
center. Now feel your stance with two
feet again. Center in the middle. Do you
feel
stronger? When you go from 100% on one
leg to 50% on each leg, you're going to
feel more stable. So your balance
practice will allow you to feel more
secure in your two feet, will allow you
to move more comfortably, more freely.
And if you're suffering with some joint
issues, it can help you to reduce some
of that pain. So, we're going to start
to move that same motion, but I'm going
to take I'm going to put my supports
down. If you need them, please keep
them. So, now a little bit more of a
flow as I slide over. I want to feel
that weight coming into this right foot.
Find my center. And then I want to reach
out. You can challenge yourself to get a
little lower or a little higher. And
then you're going to reach back behind
you. So now I don't really have that
help, but I can maybe start to get down
in
here. Coming up out to the side. Keep
your center. Reach as far as you can.
Coming in and then out and
around. Coming back into the center. And
then set this foot
down. Now you feel that little bit of
reprief. Shift your center over and then
coming up. Good. Can you reach out? How
low can you get? You may notice that the
two sides are very different. Coming up.
Coming back behind you. Reach as far as
you
[Music]
can. Little wobble there. Good. Coming
up. And then out to the outside. Reach
out. My center stays home. And then I
can reach as far as I want. And then I
can come back in. And then I'm going to
go back and behind
me. Good. and then slowly coming back up
and then coming back to your center.
Now, can you feel a change? You might
feel some sweat. You might feel that
heat and that warmth, that strength
starts to come when we move into more
flows later. You want to get really
deep. Some of the beautiful movements
that we can find through kong and taichi
have people almost in the splits, very
low. That's the things that I want to
get to. I still have a lot of work. So,
we're going to go through one more time
on each foot. Try to do this as fluid
with your breath as you can.
Shifting, lifting,
reaching. Good. Pulling back into your
center and then reaching back. Feel
where you have struggles, where you have
trouble. And then reaching out. Coming
back in and then behind.
So, if you need to hold on to something,
feel free. And then back
down. Now, we're going to shift over.
Finding the center. Assessing your
strength. Up. Reach out in front of you.
Coming back in. Reach down behind
you. Coming back into the center. Reach
out to your
side. Good. Back
in. And then down and out.
Good. Back in and settle
in. So, a couple tips is to try to touch
the ground as softly as you can in all
those places. When you lose it, you're
going to press harder. Other times,
you're going to feel where your fatigue
and then we know where to address for
strength, where to practice, how to keep
getting better and better. So, this
practice can keep growing for you.
So, we'll wrap up the practice for
today. We'll bring our feet together,
hands on our abdomen, and say thank
you. Now, if you'd like to deepen your
