story of gratitude when you drink water ,think of its source
Drinking water and thinking about the Source is not just a sentence, but a culture, a spirit,
a kind of power that makes people not forget the grace of heaven and earth, the kindness
of parents, and the kindness of teachers.
This is also the most simple and precious teaching in traditional culture.
Thanksgiving, gratitude, and repaying gratitude can become virtuous.
So, do you know the story of the Peach Blossom Well where drinking water thinks of the Source?
Hello everyone, welcome to the Ganjing World exclusive channel Mealing Culture Talk, I'm Mealing.
Today, let's turn the page of history and walk into the beautiful Mulberry Forest.
Listen to the ancient story of drinking water about gratitude.
Before we begin, let's take a look at the origin of the idiom drinking water
and thinking about the Source.
Yu Xin was a native of the Northern and Southern Dynasties,
and Emperor Liang Yuan sent him as an envoy to the Western Wei of the Northern Dynasties.
During his mission, the Liang Dynasty was destroyed by the Western Wei Dynasty,
and Yu Xin was also detained in Chang'an.
In the capital of the Western Wei Dynasty of the Northern Dynasties,
Yu Xin was 42 years old this year.
Although the Northern Dynasty made him a general, Yu Xin wanted to go back.
The Southern Dynasties also asked the Northern Dynasties for letters several times,
but they were unsuccessful.
During the 28 years of the Northern Dynasty,
Yu Xin often missed his homeland and hometown.
He wrote in the Song of Recruitment,
Those who fall into the realm think of their trees,
and those who drink their streams cherish their sources.
It means that when you eat the fruit,
you should think about the fruit tree that bears fruit.
When drinking water, think about the source of the flowing water.
That's where the idiom comes from.
So let's listen to the myths and legends of drinking water and thinking about the source.
In ancient times, at the foot of Nanling Mountain,
there was a remote village called Mulberry Forest.
The village has few people, the land is barren,
and it depends on the mountains to eat the mountains and the water.
There is an ancient well at the entrance of the village,
and the water of the well is clear and sweet.
It is said to be hundreds of years old.
There is an old peach tree planted next to the well,
the flowers bloom like the sun in spring,
and the fruits are like gold in autumn.
The villagers have passed down a saying from generation to generation,
although the Mulberry Forest is poor,
the well water is continuous,
although the peach trees are old,
the fragrance of flowers is endless.
This well and this tree are raised by heaven and earth,
and they must not be forgotten.
At the edge of the well,
there is a bluestone tablet engraved with eight large characters.
Drinking water and thinking of the source,
feeling the heavens.
This is the old admonition of Sanglin Village,
and it is also the truth that the villagers attach the most importance to.
There was a young man in the village named Chen Su,
who was bright and hardworking since he was a child.
Ran's family was poor,
his parents died early,
and he was raised by his grandfather, Mr. Chen.
Mr. Chen is the eldest in the village,
who knows etiquette and literature,
and often teaches his grandson to recite scriptures and read history.
It tells the story of the ancient's loyalty and filial piety.
Chen Su once asked,
Grandfather, our family is so poor,
why do you often burn incense and salute water in front of the peach blossom well?
Mr. Chen smiled and touched his head and said,
Grandson, the well water saved my life,
this water is not cool, it is kindness.
It turned out that when Chen Laozong was young,
he was seriously ill and almost fell into a coma.
The only thing that can be imported is the water of the peach blossoms falling from the well.
After feeding for three days and three nights,
he miraculously got rid of the fever and woke up.
From that day on,
he regarded the water of this well as a gift from heaven and earth.
Perennial worship teaches younger generations
not to forget to drink water and think of the source.
However, the times have changed,
and the next town has opened a road,
and some people have come to the village to collect land and open a cement factory.
The other party promised to give a large profit
and give a generous amount of two as compensation to those who were willing to move out.
Some of the young people forgot their interests and signed their consent,
and even the elders in the village wavered.
They said,
What is the use of keeping a broken well?
Drink water with tap water.
Money is real.
It was in the spring of that year that the peach blossom tree rarely failed to bloom.
The well water has also become cloudy, with dead leaves.
The old people in the village began to talk about it,
saying that it was the sadness of the well god and the forgetting of heaven.
Chen Siu was 16 years old at the time,
and there was a nameless annoyance in the young man's heart.
He stood in front of the crowd and said aloud,
This well is our ancestral roots, the living waters of heaven and earth.
If we forget to be grateful, are we still worthy to be human beings?
Everyone was silent for a while, but a few young people scoffed.
Can I exchange money for eating fragrant rice by remembering my ancestors?
Do you want to guard this old well for the rest of your life?
Chen Siu gritted his teeth and was silent, but quietly made a wish.
If there is really a well god,
may I repay the favor with all my heart in exchange for the pure peace of the Mulberry Forest.
A few days later, a torrential rain struck the mountain village,
the stream swelled, and the flash flood poured down.
Just when everyone fled for their lives,
only the land of the Peach Blossom Well was unscathed,
and the water stopped when it reached the well.
It was as if an invisible force was in the way.
That night, some villagers saw a faint light in the Peach Blossom Well.
It was as if the stars in the sky had fallen into the water,
reflecting the face of a kind old man, said softly,
Grace does not forget.
Blessings come from people, people forget their roots, and the water withers itself.
The next morning, the peach blossom tree suddenly bloomed,
and the branches were full of red glow overnight.
The well water is more sweet than ever.
The news spread, and the villagers who had wanted to move away were frightened and repented.
They burned incense and offered incense to the well to give thanks to heaven and earth.
The blue stone tablet engraved with drinking water and thinking of the source
and feeling the heavenly newspaper.
It was also wiped clean and enshrined at the well.
Ten years later, Chen Siu grew into a young man.
He did not leave the mountain village, but set up a school next to the Peach Blossom Well.
Accept the children in the village as apprentices,
teach them to read and write, and be courteous, righteous, and honest.
He often said, to be a human being, you must first learn to be grateful.
We must not forget our parents, to heaven and earth, to the well that raised us.
His teachings gradually changed the atmosphere in the village.
Emphasizing filial piety and virtue,
diligence and thrift have become a new trend in the village.
There are also famous scholars from other places who come to apprentice.
As a result, the village of Sanglin was revived.
It was even named Renli Village by the imperial court.
In his later years, Chen Siu erected a new monument under the peach blossom tree.
Heaven is silent and gracious, and the earth is silent and virtuous.
If the descendants think of Rongchang, do not forget this well, do not forget the stee.
He named the monument Thanksgiving Stone.
Standing side by side with the blue stone monument,
it will never be forgotten by future generations.
A hundred years later, Sanglin Village still exists,
and the peach blossom well water is still sweet.
Every May in winter solstice,
villagers will spontaneously go to the well to burn incense and water.
Tell the story of Chen Siu and Jingxuan.
The children asked, does the well god really exist?
The elder always replied with a smile.
Wells may really exist, and Thanksgiving is the true god of our hearts.
This ancient well has fed a village of people and awakened people's hearts.
The water in the well is not only clear because of the underground springs,
it is also because of the gratitude that has been passed down from generation to generation.
Drinking water and thinking about the source is not just a sentence,
it's a culture, it's a spirit.
A kind of people do not forget the grace of heaven and earth, the grace of parents.
The power of the division commander's grace.
This is the most simple and precious teaching in traditional culture.
Thanksgiving, gratitude, and repaying kindness can become virtuous.
Okay, that's it for today's story.
May you always be grateful.
Live up to every warmth.
Don't forget every benefactor.
Turn gratitude into light.
Illuminate others and illuminate yourself.
I'm MeLing, we'll see you in the next episode.
