For the first time in over a month, the Cardinals finally take on a division foe.
A huge four-game series comes your way this weekend as the Birds travel to Milwaukee for
a showdown with the Brewers. The Cardinals are one of the surprise teams in the National League
behind veteran Nolan Arenado. Now they have lost four straight though, but remain just ahead of
the crew in second place in the NL Central Race. The flamethrowing phenom, Jacob Mizorowski,
and he jogs to the American Family Field Mound for the first time. He figures to be a guy that's
going to be in the rotation and in for the long haul, and he's got a lot of friends and family
here watching him today. His parents, Tom and Crystal. Jacob is a pretty calm, collected guy,
Vinny, and his numbers at Triple-A Nashville jump off the page, and now we'll see if he can
transfer that to the big leagues. Yeah, 63 in a third innings pitch. The 80 punch-outs he has
swing and miss stuff with four different pitches. The one-two, and Nootbaar on the ground,
right to the gold-glover Terang, and that's a way to start a big league career right there. He's got
his first out. He is in the book. Oh, big breaking ball when the legs were gone, and Terang puts it
away. Two up and two down. Threw him a slider on the inner part of the plate. I tell you, the
stat cast is having a hard time identifying these pitches from Mizorowski early. And the one-two on
the ground, and Mizorowski covers the bag. Three up and three down inning in the first frame of his
big league career. Cardinals go in order. Brewers coming up with Frelick, Trujillo, and Contreras.
Sonny Gray's on a hot streak for the Cardinals. He's 3-0 with a 1.07 earned run average. He's
run his mark to 7-1. Brad, as you said, who better to start the road trip than he?
And that's a good start. A base hit to left. Sal Frelick is aboard to start it offensively
for Milwaukee. And that brings up Jackson Trujillo. That one on the ground towards short. Mason's got
it. Steps on the pillow, and his throw to first doubles up Jackson Trujillo. So Gray has two
outs on just six pitches. Swing and a miss. No runs a hit. Nobody left. We go to the second.
Nothing, nothing in Milwaukee. Off and running in Milwaukee. Cardinals and Brewers, no score. Top of
the second inning. And Wilson Contreras digs in. And he gets his first big league strikeout.
It is Wilson Contreras. I'm sure Mizorowski's battery mate will love that. Six up, six down
for Mizorowski in his first two innings. And two gone in the second. Two away for Isaac Collins.
Collins turns on one. That's going to get down and go to the corner. Comes in and it is late.
Triple for Isaac Collins with two outs. Got a pitch on the inner part of the plate, and he
turned on it. Able to get it over the head of the first baseman, Contreras. And Burleson had
some issues with it in the corner. That allowed Collins to get into third base with a slide.
First career major league triple for Isaac Collins. Comes on the eighth pitch of the at-bat,
and it sets up the Brewers here with the potential of a two-out RBI. Bryce Terang hits.
And Terang on the ground. Arnado gobbles it up. Throws on the run. Terang is safe. Throws up
Collins is in. And the Brewers strike first. The benefits of putting the ball in play. That'll be
an infield hit and an RBI for Terang. It's 1-0 Milwaukee. And he lost in the first walk.
So the first base runner of this game for the Cardinals is the leadoff man here in the third
in Nolan Gorman. And now the number eight hitter, Pedro Páez, will come to the plate for St. Louis.
On the ground. Chance for two here. Flip it to the bag. Terang. Double play.
6-4-3 it goes. And after the leadoff walk, Mizorowski rolls up. A ground ball double
play. And there's two outs. And the 2-2 pitch. And he went around. And that is strikeout number
two for Mizorowski, who has still not allowed a hit. He's faced the minimum through three.
Mizorowski back out there for the fourth. And he just walked Nupar on four pitches.
And that is inviting the Cardinals back in this game that they trail by one.
And there's one away. And that'll get Yvonne Herrera to the plate. And the pitch. Swinging
him. Yes. Fastball at 98 at the top of the zone. And strikes him out. His third strikeout of the
night. And two walks in the inning. Three in the game. And it's the first time the Cardinals have
a runner at second base. Well, you like the patience, right? And the approach. 2-2 pitch.
Fly ball. Right field. This is shallow. Terrain going out. He's going to call off Freeland.
Makes the catch. And the inning is over. So a couple of walks in the inning. But no damage
done. Mizorowski is through four scoreless. Jacob Mizorowski has gone four innings. Walked three
batters. Struck out three batters. And not allowed a hit. Did I say he's got a no-hitter going?
And Arnauto in the air to left field. That's going to hang up for Collins.
For out number one. Lead off batter retire for the first time in two innings for Mizorowski.
Oh, wow. Oh my goodness. He breaks out the change-up. Stadcast has it as a sinker. That is
most definitely his change of pace. And it is a dandy. And he got him. Mizorowski. His best inning
yet. 1-0-1 on the fastball for Mizorowski. Five scoreless and no hit innings from the Brewers
right-hander in his big league debut. First and second for Milwaukee. Durbin has squared it up
twice against Gray. And now Joey Ortiz hits. And that's a base hit right center. He'll score. Durbin
into second with an RBI. Joey Ortiz. Big hit for Joey Ortiz as he continues to use the opposite
field. So a run is in. Second and third now. Top of the order with one out for South Freeland.
Freeland. Left field. Down base hit. Durbin churning. Ortiz right behind him. They score
back-to-back. Almost literally two RBI single for South Freeland. And it is four-nothing Brewers.
And South Freeland is two for three against Sonny Gray. Jackson Churio now. First pitch.
Jackson Churio sends it deep. And Churio with a two-run blast. Six to nothing Milwaukee.
Jackson Churio's got a dozen homers and the Brewers have broken it wide open.
As it stands they're up six against the Cardinals. Talk about a couple of kids to build a franchise
around. You're looking at him right there. Hope beyond hope. Mizorowski and Churio.
Not sure what that was. Mizorowski kind of got a spike hung it looked like on the
downside of the mound. It looked awkward. You're going to go out and check on the lanky
Mizorowski. Just a very small little ankle roll. And walking it off or at least trying to. I think
they're going to go to the bullpen. Yeah they're going to take Mizorowski out and he will get a
roaring ovation. Officially he'll come out with an injury but listen to this crowd they stand up
for the Phenom. What a debut. As Aaron Ashby said to try to keep this thing rolling for the crew
with his six nothing lead. The Brewers about hit the Cardinals nine to zero in this game.
Five plus no hit innings from Jacob Mizorowski tonight in his MLB debut.
Here's a base hit up the middle for Contreras. Cardinals get their first hit.
I think he broke his bat on that and Wilson rounds first base very hard back to the bag
and a leadoff hit. And there goes the no hitter. Cardinals have their first hit
and now on his way to second a hop in. Oh what a pick. Joey Ortiz picks it clean and gets the tag
on Contreras. Wilson broke for second. Williams said you might be my big brother but I'm going
to have the upper hand here. So now second and third for St. Louis with two outs and a 1-0 count
here on Pajas. On the ground. Nice play. Durbin spins fires. Excellent play. So some traffic in
that seventh inning for Ashby but he works around it all and puts up a zero anyway. Victor Scott
the second is hit on top of the helmet with the first pitch thrown by Aaron Ashby in the eighth
inning. That went right off the batting helmet all the way to the backstop. I think Scott is
trying to convince the Cardinal head athletic trainer to stay in the game and Scott he passed
the test so he goes to first base. And a chance here to flip one. Terang Ortiz got him. Double
play. 4-6-3 Terang Ortiz and Hoskins. Second double play turned by the Brewers. It's a 1-2-3
inning for Aaron Ashby in the top of the eighth. 6-0 Brewers. Well the Brewers three outs away
from picking up their first shutout since May 4th against the Chicago Cubs. Aaron Ashby trying to do
it. Fly ball to right and front. Showing that gold glove form. Sal Frelick with three hits at the
plate. Two runs batted in and another diving catch on that gold glove resume. Two away in the ninth.
And he got him and that's the ball game. A better night for the Milwaukee Brewers
with one of their young stars making his major league debut and another one of their young
stars with a two-run homer. Give Ashby credit for the three inning save. 6-0 your final score.
