Taking a little trail run into the Lake Waikaremoana Track. This is a brilliant stop on the eastern North Island in the Te Urewera National Park. It is also one of the lesser well known great walks!
I checked out the higher section of the 43km Lake Waikaremoana hike! I only did about half of that distance (23k) but still a hefty 1250m⬆️. Would love to run the whole thing someday when these beginner's legs strengthen up.
So the cloud was really heavy this morning and it was raining but it's now all pushing away
so I'm going to get cracking and I think it's going to be really really good.
Sun's come out and I'm off. What a stunner of a morning!
Now I've kind of got up to the top of the ridge it just meanders along
and you just come along to like places like this where you just get those epic views out.
So I'm going to continue along this ridge line here and there's a hut
over the back there somewhere. Right we'll probably get down. I think we're going this way.
Made it to the hut.
I think I'm going to go on a few more k.
I've just found. I think that's an appropriate turnaround point.
So we're going to head it back. I'm loving this so much along here.
I love all the rings in here it's incredible. Back at the hut. The clouds come in.
Old mate Mr Sun has been swallowed so the time has come to evacuate. Let's go. Home time.
Detour. Holy hell.
These are the moments that make these little missions so worthwhile for me.
Just to stand and look out and to take in the surroundings when you've got to the top.
It's such a good feeling and it's so satisfying. Whether you've run, you've walked or you've
crawled it just doesn't matter. Your own two legs have got you up there and it's your reward for
your efforts. The last few hundred meters and we're back. That is the knee. There we are.
Great day. All right on to the next one.
