Hello viewers, welcome to home cooking with me Hema Subramanian.
Today's recipe is a very simple Rajma curry.
Let's get started and check out the ingredients.
For the Rajma curry, you can use any Rajma beans.
For today's recipe, I will use the light brown colour Rajma beans.
And I have soaked these overnight. You can see they've become nice and plump.
Now, let's start making the Rajma curry.
The first step is to pressure cook the Rajma beans.
Pressure cook the Rajma beans for about 5-6 whistles.
The Rajma is cooked. Turn off the stove.
So, the Rajma is cooked perfectly. It's nice and soft.
Now, I'm going to start making the Rajma curry.
Take a nice wide saucepan. First, I'm going to add 1 tbsp of butter.
Now, add 1 tsp of cumin seeds.
Now, I'm going to add 1 tsp of pound ginger, garlic and green chilli.
Next, add 1 large onion, finely chopped.
Saute the onions till they're nice golden brown in colour.
Now, I'm going to add the spice powder, starting with turmeric powder, 1 tsp.
Kashmiri chilli powder, 2 tsp.
Coriander powder, 1 tsp.
Cumin powder, 1 tsp.
Garam masala, 1 tsp.
So, once you've mixed everything in, add the puree of 3 tomatoes.
Cook the masala till the moisture is completely evaporated and it's nice and dry.
So, the raw smell of the tomatoes must go.
Add 1 1.5 tsp to 2 tsp of salt, according to your taste.
So, you can see the masala is nice and dry now. All the excess moisture is evaporated.
Now, I'm going to add the cooked Rajma.
Now, I'm going to add a tsp of amchur powder or dry mango powder.
Give it a quick mix.
So, I'm just going to add a little water.
Bring the flame to a medium and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
I'm going to add a tsp of sugar just to balance the flavours.
Finally, finish it off with a few kasuri methi leaves.
Turn off the stove.
So, there you go. You've seen a very simple Rajma curry that can be had either with jeera rice, ghee rice or with just plain steamed rice.
