Dodgers at Coors Field taking on the Rockies.
16th start of the season for Germán Márquez.
Coming off a scoreless outing against the Nationals
last Wednesday, 5-2 innings.
Seven lead-off home runs this year for Shohei Ohtani.
He has eight first-pitch home runs as well.
The center field crowd into the trap.
Brett Doyle makes the catch. It's a big first down.
Popped up. Had him reaching for the curve ball.
Michael Tolia on the skin of the infield.
The first baseman has it. Two down.
Two down, and Freddy Freeman the batter.
Freddy is four total bases away from 4,000.
Swing and a miss on a third straight curve ball.
Wonderful beginning for Germán Márquez.
No score as the Rockies come to bat.
Jack Dreyer is the opener for the Dodgers.
26-year-old rookie left-hander,
undrafted out of Iowa,
making his fifth start, 31st appearance.
One pitch and one down.
Hunter Goodman hitting in the two-spot tonight
for manager Warren Schaefer.
That's ripped to the left, and it's toward the line.
Concordo chasing it.
Hunter Goodman, who was sprinting,
obviously, the whole way, slams on the break.
So, a one-out single for Hunter.
And there are two away.
Two outs with Hunter Goodman at first base and Michael Tolia.
This is lined right by Tolia,
and it's going to go all the way to one.
Let's see if Andy González will send it.
You bet. Here comes Hunter with the house.
Here comes the throw, safe.
To third, safe there as well.
One-nothing Colorado.
Big Mike coming through, going oppo.
That'll be a double,
and Tolia moving up on the throw.
One hit the whole weekend,
but drives the ball the other way, hitting right-handed,
hits it down that right-field line,
scoots by Hernández, which ensured the run to score.
Rockies will try and keep it going with Tyro Estrada
back after missing a week after being hit by a pitch.
Tapper to third, barehand play from Muncie.
Not in time.
L.A. is challenging the safe call at first base.
Yeah, this should be a quick review in New York.
After a beautiful on the field,
it's overturned, the runner is out.
That'll be a nice play for Max Muncie.
Tolia does not score,
and after the Rockies' bat for the first time,
they get a run on two hits, no errors, and a man left.
And a base hit for Will Smith,
and the tying runs aboard in the second.
He makes the catch-and-file territory
for the first out of the Dodgers' second.
And gets a strikeout.
And a second strikeout for Marquez
is his second out of this second inning.
He just feels like everything is in his command.
Swing and a miss.
Got him with that curveball,
and back-to-back strikeouts,
three of those for Marquez,
no harm done in the top of the second.
Here he is, Justin Robleski, comes out of the bullpen,
hoping to take down some bulk innings
in this series opener against the Rockies.
Going to face Ryan McMahon, so left on left.
There's a base hit past a guy named Mookie Betts.
Good start to the second inning for Ryan McMahon.
Ligondolph Mann is aboard here in the second.
Rick Doyle up to the plate now with nobody out.
Struck him out with 98 just by you.
Good velo on that fastball from Robleski,
and that's his first punch out of the night.
One down.
Robleski with another strikeout with some more heat.
Farmer goes down.
Now Ryan Ritter, the shortstop, number-nine hitter,
will come to the plate with two outs and a runner at first.
McMahon has himself a stolen base.
He is locked up, strike three,
called a cutter over the outer half.
And working around a single by McMahon,
Robleski strikes out the next three.
A leadoff double for Michael Conforto,
guy who's struggling at the plate.
Number-nine hitter, the second baseman, Tommy Edmond.
Strike three.
That's a big punch out of Edmond.
One out, and that other lineup was flipped to Otani.
And that one is hit to left field.
That's playable for Beck.
Circles around, real shy of the track.
He'll haul that in, and holding at second base is Conforto.
Another good pitch, Marquez to Otani.
Out number two, and there's Mookie Betts.
To him, it's hit into center field.
On the move, he's Doyle. Runs it down.
What a great running catch in left center field
by Brenton Doyle.
Good work again, Marquez.
Leadoff double does not hurt him.
Two away. Go now to Jordan Beck, the number-three hitter.
She can get something going with two outs.
And up the middle, into center. It's a base hit.
Here is Michael Toley.
It drove him that run for the Rockies in the first inning.
Lined into right center field.
On the move, Conforto dies. He can't get it.
It's off his glove.
Beck's going to be waved in.
The throw is cut off.
The Rockies back on the board.
Michael Toley with his second RBI of the game.
Sinking liner to left, Conforto couldn't make the play.
Toley ends up at second, two-nothing Rockies.
Jermon Marquez has allowed two hits
but has kept the Dodgers off the board.
So the Dodgers have loaded the bases,
and there's nobody out.
Time to eat for Teoscar Hernandez.
First pitch, a bouncer to the middle of the infield.
Estrada at second, got to get it away quickly and cleanly.
He does, but a run score is on the play.
The Dodger deficit has been cut in half.
Typically, a ball hit to where Estrada is at second,
just to the right of the bag, would be a double play ball
but only able to get one on a 4-3 put out.
Teoscar gets an RBI,
and the runners advance to second and third.
Yeah, big break. Dodgers on the board now.
Andy Paja has a chance to tie it and give him a lead, perhaps.
Cued to Toley. He's coming home.
So is Smith, the throw.
Hey, what a slide by Smith!
Steps over the tag of Goodman, and we're tied at two.
Will Smith was going on contact.
That's where you tell the runners that, hey, look,
you're going to be going on anything on the ground,
regardless of where it is.
That throw was about eight feet up the third baseline,
and Will Smith, as you said,
he slid over the top of the catcher.
The Dodgers still have runners on the corners with one out.
Pajas takes off for second.
This ball's in the air. This ball is crushed!
Michael Dodgers the lead!
Conforto lets it fly for a three-run shot,
and it's a five-spot for the Dodgers in the fourth.
Still only one out.
And that's through the wickets of Tolia!
Edmonds on and heading for second.
Everything is unraveling for the Rockies in this fourth inning.
It's out number two on his fifth strikeout of the night.
Mookie Betts has popped a first and flied to center.
That's a fair ball toward the left field corner.
Tommy Edmonds can stroll home.
Mookie Betts can stroll into second,
standing up with a two-out RBI double.
The Dodgers lead by four.
If you give this ball club an opening,
they're going to take it.
Gone away, Gordon Beck with his second hit of the night.
He's two for three.
Here comes Big Mike.
Two RBI doubles for Tolia, and that's down the line.
And that is a home fan.
It looks like it was right on the line.
He might be able to challenge this one
since it's in the air.
That one hit the line.
That's white.
Yeah, the Rockies are going to challenge him.
He should challenge that.
Colorado is challenging the call of foul ball.
After a review, the call in the field is overturned.
The ball is fair.
Runners will be placed at second and third.
Colorado will retain their challenge.
Tyro Estrada in the second baseman, 0-4-1, with a walk.
Tyro to center field is going to get one run home here.
Tagging is Beck, 6-3 for Estrada's ninth RBI.
Lead off infield single for the Dodgers.
Entering this series, 28 games against Colorado.
Otani with 29 RBI, 11 home runs.
Otani swats it in the air to left field,
pushing back to the wall.
This ball is out of here.
So Shohei Feist again against Colorado.
A two-run blast to make it eight.
Three Dodgers.
He's got first and second.
Nobody out. Next two strikeout.
Beck and Tolia in succession.
Now Tyro Estrada.
And this ball to the left side of the base hit.
Brings eight to four.
A one-run single by Tyro Estrada,
second RBI of the night.
Taking the extra bases, Ritter.
He's at second.
Two-out man in scoring position for Tyler Freeman.
Down the right field line, extra bases.
The score, RBI number 11 on the season for Freeman.
So Tanner Scott's well rested.
He's going to be asked to get four outs
from the Dodgers' perspective.
Time run at the plate, Beck.
Two on, two out. He lines it.
Foul right on the left field line.
It's going to score two.
All the way from first base, Goodman home just like that.
It's eight-seven.
A one-out single for Muncie.
Here comes Teoscar.
Teoscar Hernandez drills it to left center field.
That's down. Green light for Muncie.
He's going to score without a throw.
There's an insurance run,
and there's Teoscar Hernandez coming through again.
Tanner Scott goes back to the mound.
He has not finished a four-out save this season.
One down in the Rockies' ninth.
Bump base hit for Ryan McMahon.
And now the tying run comes to the plate.
First pitch, ground ball to short.
Betts to Edmond. Edmond to Freeman.
That's two.
Tanner Scott completes the four-out save,
and the Dodgers take the series opener
by a final of nine to seven.
