WHAT WE DO WHEN WE’RE SICK
Well Jon is feeling kind of nasty and under the weather. Might be man flu, might be something else but either way I thought I’d take this opportunity to share what we do on sick days to help us recover! Oh and we do it all 100% naturally!
Okay, so what do we do when we're not feeling well?
I have a whole toolbox.
I'm just gonna share it with you guys.
You're gonna love this.
Oh no, y'all, John's got it.
Look at him.
He's got it.
John's caught the man flu.
Look at him.
Look at him over there.
He's got a tiny little cold and he is all,
all laid up on the couch, thinking he's dying.
We sent, so our big three are in school,
Everly's sleeping.
We sent Adeline out with Graham.
They are going, what are they doing?
They're doing pottery or something together
because it's chilly outside.
So I'm here taking care of Maren and John.
I'm about to do, make him some tea.
I'm gonna show you guys what I do when we're sick.
This is so funny, so funny, so funny
how different men and women are.
If only one time we could get them to go through childbirth.
Just kidding, it's miserable to be sick.
I don't wish that on anyone.
I don't wish it on anyone.
Oh my goodness, Mary, look at this.
What are you doing?
A little less noise, please, a little less noise.
Don't interrupt the cute puppy baby time.
Is it a doggie?
Is that a dog?
Say hi, Journey, say hi, Journey.
Oh, hi, Chase.
Okay, so what do we do when we're not feeling well?
I have a whole toolbox.
I'm just gonna share it with you guys.
I figure this time of year, it is probably really helpful.
And if you are like us and prefer to do things holistically,
more naturally minded, you're gonna love this.
You're gonna love this.
We're gonna go with the Echinacea tea.
Okay, so Echinacea is really good for your immune system,
which is perfect, John needs that.
We are gonna make him some hot tea with this.
I'm gonna give him a couple of vitamins that we take.
This one is called Inner Defense.
It is a blend of, it's got coconut oil,
oregano, thyme, lemongrass.
Let's see, it's got clove and lemon
and eucalyptus and rosemary and cinnamon,
all really high in antioxidants,
all designed to boost your immune system.
Okay, this is the big guns.
This is what we pull out when we need it.
It's actually such big guns
that you're not supposed to take this
with a probiotic at the same time
because it will kill the probiotic.
We're gonna take that, he's gonna take one of those.
I'm gonna give him one of these Super C chewables.
We usually have, the chewables we usually keep for the kids
and then they have a pill form, but I'm out of those,
so we're gonna give John the chewables
and it'll be so sweet.
I'll say, here, take your vitamins, honey.
Take one three times a day,
and that's what we would do just for normal immune support,
through the winter months especially.
Since John's needing a little extra support,
we're gonna up that.
The cool thing about Young Living supplements
is they're all bioavailable,
so you don't need excessive amounts of the vitamin C
that your body's just gonna waste and not use correctly.
It all comes from whole food sources.
Your body's like, oh, I know exactly what to do with this.
It uses it the right way,
and it's a lot more effective, so love them.
Well, this is a mess.
Gonna have to get to that later
because hubby's sick and he needs me,
so we just have to wait.
This is purified water.
This is a Berkey filter.
This is not sponsored,
but we use that to filter all of our water,
but the water here is super chlorinated and nasty,
so we have that.
It has a crazy water filter in it.
It also has fluoride filters in it.
We filter that out.
Fluoride is yuck, neurotoxin,
but yeah, literally, if you run a bath,
it smells like a swimming pool.
The chlorine is insane, so that filters all of that out.
It filters out bacteria and viruses from the water.
It's really, really cool,
so we, like, it's got filters in there, right?
You pour the water in the top,
filters down to the bottom.
That's where we get all of our water
for drinking and cooking, making tea, all those things.
Okay, so to that tea,
I added these and lemon essential oils,
which are really great.
Boast, boast?
Both.
Both are really great for the immune system.
Again, lemon is high in an antioxidant called D-limonene,
which is great for your white blood cells.
You can Google it.
D-L-I-M-O-N-E-N-E, D-limonene.
Google that.
So that's why I put those in here.
It's hot.
Here's your tea, sir.
It is hot.
You're gonna wanna sit up for this.
You know, you gotta put tissues up your,
oh, your nose.
That's so hot.
You look great.
It's hot from dripping down.
You look great.
Oh.
Thank you.
What you got, journey?
Is he trying to chew on you?
No, he's actually not.
He's chewing on a wooden block.
That's not your toy.
Okay, it's Steve's tea.
You're gonna be better in no time.
Hold on, I have some vitamins for you to take,
but although it might be hard to take them with that
until it cools down.
It should help your throat.
Another cool thing about thieves oil
is that it has clove oil in it, which is numbing.
So like on a sore throat, that feels amazing.
This is what we do, okay?
We are crunchy hippies who use oils and plants
and all of those kinds of things when we are in need.
I'm going to use this oil.
It's called Raven for John.
We've got thieves going in the diffuser.
Raven is great to make.
You can make it like a DIY chest rub
or just apply it like right away.
Here, grab your hand.
So I'm going to have him put a couple of drops
on his chest and rub it around on his neck,
maybe on his back.
It has like a eucalyptus and wintergreen blend.
So like think like a vapor rub.
You can make a DIY vapor type rub with this.
It's really good for just helping you take full deep breaths
and feel like you can breathe better.
Pull your shirt out.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Settle down.
Okay.
I'm not ever too sick for that band.
Oh no, this one's empty.
I tend to just ignore when John says things like that
that are inappropriate and gross.
Pretend I didn't hear.
They're everywhere.
This is my desk, friends.
Don't even worry about it.
Okay, I'm going to use this one instead.
The name says it all.
It's called Breathe Again.
We need to lock this so the puppy can't go in there.
He likes to use that as a toilet.
This one's a little bit easier, actually.
You take off the top and it has a roller wall
so you can roll it right on.
All right, lay back, buddy.
Let's get you some nice oils up on here,
up on your neck.
Don't show them too much, babe.
Rub that around your sinuses.
How's the tea?
Have you had some?
Oh, it's hot, I haven't had it yet.
Oh, it's pretty good, actually.
Do you like it?
Yeah, ooh, it's a little spicy.
Yeah, yeah, that's the thieves.
The lemon's good.
Oh yeah, it tastes good.
I like it, thank you.
I'm gonna let him sit for a little bit.
If your throat hurts, let me know.
I'll give you a cough drop.
But you guys, if you haven't caught on yet,
we don't use normal cough drops
that have food dyes and all this stuff in them.
Surprise, Young Living makes cough drops.
They're amazing.
They are actually FDA approved as an over-the-counter
cough drop with drug facts listed on them.
But they're like minty, they're really good.
So I'm gonna throw that over there.
The other thing is just the rest.
Just let him rest.
He can do the dishes tomorrow and the laundry and he can,
I'm just kidding.
I'm not feeling like super,
like I feel like my throat is kind of sore,
but he's definitely more soft today.
So I'm gonna take care of him.
I am trying to get some work done.
It's like an interesting life, the hustle from home life.
Through the week, the kids are at school
and like it's easy to get stuff done.
And then Fridays, usually we have, you know,
Ev and Addy home, but with Addy not being here,
I'm taking that opportunity.
As long as John's not too needy.
I'm fine.
I ain't got the man flu,
I just got a little something or other in my chest.
It's hard to talk loudly.
Can you say something loud?
I don't know.
The tea's kind of making it loosen up a little bit.
Is it better?
Yeah, it's kind of giving it.
Yeah, breathe in that steam.
Look over there, babe.
Look over there.
It's better than it was.
It is, you were squeaking earlier.
I couldn't even get the volume out before.
I was talking to Mark and he was like,
man, you're struggling.
I was like, yeah, I'm trying to,
God, geez, I can't really get it out.
What you doing?
Hey.
Say hi.
Oh, look at that, look at you, look at you.
Here, can you walk?
Show them how you stand up.
Come on.
Oh, look, look, look, look, look.
You did it.
You got it, you got it.
Yeah, John, listen.
You're doing it.
Oh, no, up, up, up.
Good job.
Up, up, up, up, up.
Come on, come on.
Come on.
There you go.
Look, there you go.
Ready?
One, two, three.
Ow, almost.
Oh, I'm sorry.
It's just like mom.
What on earth?
He's up, he's up, he's up, he's off the couch.
You feeling better?
Yeah.
Let me get a little bit.
Let me talk a little bit.
Oh, you can talk now.
Wait, take it off.
Whoa, come here, you.
Look how strong, you got your strength back and everything.
You're so strong.
Thanks, thanks.
Hey, Em, can you say hi?
No.
Say hi, everyone.
No.
Are you sure?
Look, what if you see yourself?
Then you say hi?
Look, look at you.
Say hi.
You're cute.
That's my favorite thing she does.
She goes, no.
Turn around.
Okay, last thing that I'm doing for John
is every like a couple hours,
this is a roller that I made for,
was it Ed that was not feeling well?
One of the girls, maybe it was Marin.
It's got oregano oil, frankincense oil, a carrier oil.
Whoop, and I'm just gonna put it down his spine.
That's what's happening right there.
Just a lot of stuff happens in your spine.
You have a lot of nerves there
that go throughout your body
and your spinal cord and all the things.
So putting the oils down his spine,
usually on the feet,
but John's feet are kind of gross,
so I don't want to roll the roller on them.
Nothing.
No, no, that's not what I said.
You'll find out when you edit this.
Anyway, it's good to see him up and at it.
I'm gonna make some tea for myself
because my throat kind of hurts.
I feel okay, but my throat's a little bit sore.
And then his mom should be back pretty soon with Addy.
But this is our sick day routine.
Looks a lot like that.
And when the kids are sick,
we will usually give them like a detox bath
with a baking soda, Epsom salts, essential oils,
and then have them just rest a lot.
A lot of rest, a lot of fluids,
a lot of water or hot tea or whatever.
And really just make sure they're getting that.
This is how we take care of our family.
It's really like, I don't know,
it's good to be empowered.
Like I feel very empowered to have things to do
and use to help support our family
when we're not feeling well.
And so that's probably my favorite part.
Hey, what you got?
What are you doing?
Oh, a trash can?
Thank you.
Yep.
More trash can.
Oh, again.
Sure.
Say I love you.
I love you too.
Okay.
Okay, I'll wait.
Joanie.
Hey, look who's home.
Oh, thank you.
This is great.
Thanks, Graham.
You're welcome.
Hey, you're home.
You're home.
Hey, you're home.
I think I need some more of that tea.
I think you do need more tea.
Did Graham say you can have this?
Did Graham say you can have it?
Ask her.
Ask her who it's for.
I don't know who it's for.
Is it for you?
I love it.
Is it for her?
Are these for Abby?
Yeah, I got one for each of them.
Graham always takes the kids to the dollar store,
lets them pick out some dollar things
that are gonna go in the trash
as soon as she leaves the house.
Just kidding, Mom.
They love it.
So, you know,
let them have their fun.
Okay, you guys, all the kids are home from school.
We ordered pizza.
Easy button on dinner tonight.
John, how are you feeling?
I'm feeling pretty good.
My throat's still like, I might need some more tea.
Need some more tea.
And I forgot that my best friend Becca
brought over this elderberry tea.
Elderberry is amazing.
She also brought me a fresh batch of elderberry syrup.
This has elderberry syrup, raw local honey,
and then some of our Young Living Essential Oils
that are good for the immune system.
So John's gonna have some of that.
I'm gonna take some and give all the kids some
just to help boost their immune system
so nobody else gets whatever that is.
I don't think they will get it because it's the man.
Anyway, so the next thing on the list
is get the kids in bed and call it an early night
to get rest because rest is the most important thing
when you're not feeling good.
We're gonna go.
We love you guys.
We'll see you later.
Hey, thanks so much for watching.
