Hi, I'm Robert F. Kennedy Jr., your HHS secretary, and today we had a meeting with the CEOs of
rural hospitals all over the country and the Rural Hospital Association, and they're all facing the
same crisis. About 46 percent of rural hospitals are now operating in the red. About 432 are
endangered of going bankrupt. These are critical institutions, not only for providing Americans
with good health care in all of our rural areas, but also they are the centerpiece of the economies
in most of these areas. They have high-paying, good jobs, and they really keep these communities
together. Here at HHS, we are doing what we can. We're lighting a fire under those divisions in
our agency that have that mission to preserve rural health care. We're looking for new ideas.
As health secretary, I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that these hospitals are viable,
that they're prosperous, and that they continue to provide this vital service to the American people.
