Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Matthew 5 verse 11.
Have you ever been made fun of for doing the right thing?
Maybe someone laughed at you for praying or reading your Bible.
Jesus told us this would happen, but he also gave us a promise, those who stay faithful to him will be blessed.
Let's watch how Sarah learns to stand strong in her faith.
Sarah had always prayed before lunch, but today, something was different.
Some of her classmates noticed and began whispering.
Why are you praying? Do you think God's going to make your food taste better?
I just always do.
Sarah glances around the lunchroom, feeling everyone's eyes on her.
She thinks about stopping her prayer so she won't be made fun of.
But then, she remembers what her mom said,
we don't follow Jesus just when it's easy, but even when it's hard.
Jesus, help me be brave.
Instead of giving in to fear, Sarah bows her head again and prays anyway.
The giggling stops, some kids look surprised, while others seem thoughtful.
Whatever, that's weird.
That was really cool.
Sarah could have stopped praying to fit in.
But instead, she chose Jesus over fear.
After lunch, Lily walks up to Sarah in the hallway.
She thanks Sarah for standing strong and shares that she prays, too,
but was always afraid to do it at school.
She smiles, realizing she isn't alone.
Sarah thought she was standing alone, but she wasn't.
Her bravery helped someone else grow stronger in their faith, too.
I hope you have learned something new today.
Never be shy to pray and also stand for what Jesus instructed.
Remember, you are not alone.
Now, let's pray together.
Say this with joy,
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for loving me.
Help me to be strong in my faith, even when others don't understand.
Let me shine your light so that others can see you in me.
Thank you for blessing those who stay faithful to you.
Amen.
Let's practice our verse.
Stand up tall, put your hands on your heart,
and say it boldly, because Jesus gives us strength.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you,
and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Matthew 5 verse 11
