Hello YouTube, I'm back with another video.
I recently finished the artist analysis for Kyu Hayashida.
And I mentioned that she has an art book for Dorohedoro.
So I thought that the next obvious video would be me unwrapping or unboxing that art book.
So I'm gonna bring it out right now.
And here it is, the Dorohedoro Mud and Sludge art book by Kyu Hayashida.
So I had this book for a while now.
Two friends got it for me for my birthday.
And I knew that I was going to look at this artist in the future.
So I did not open it until...
I promised myself I wouldn't open it until I did the artist analysis for Kyu Hayashida.
It's about time too.
Because I've had this for over a year now.
I like how it's a cardboard cover.
It's a really good quality art book.
It also probably explains the price of it being like $90 or $100, I think.
But yeah, let's look through it.
This is probably not going to be a long video either.
I'm just going to go through the pages and be very quick with it.
Oh, so sorry for the lighting again.
There's going to be a glare, but please bear with me.
OK, let me bring it closer.
I like how this is like a material, like a gloss material here.
We have Kaimon.
I saw some of these and I didn't realize that these were the volume covers.
Like the physical volume covers.
This would be the background and this would be the character on it.
So I'll have a picture like over here showing what I mean.
This is the Kaimon on it.
And this is the...
Not that.
This is just the background of it.
I didn't realize that until after the artist analysis.
Because I didn't know what these were for.
I thought these were just her fun collages that she did for the manga.
I didn't know what they were used for.
Oh, nice to know.
We have more of her illustrations.
We have Shin with his heart mask, which is backwards.
Oh, my God.
This is a different paper entirely.
Got the concept art for Kaimon.
We have Nikaido in her mask.
This is, I think, volume two.
I think.
I don't know.
I think it is because it was Nikaido's skateboard.
These are the pages I looked at in the artist analysis video.
Again, masking tape.
It's just...
It's so...
It screams this story setting.
Just dirty, grimy, mucky.
Yeah.
Like this, too.
This is a pretty unique way to depict the smoke.
And like a color illustration.
I also have this material, too.
More illustrations.
Also needless to say.
I would definitely recommend reading Dorohedoro.
It's a pretty good read.
A nice wide variety of characters.
All with their own unique personalities.
Character designs and backstories.
These pages, I swear.
Also like...
And N was also a pretty good character.
He seemed very human.
He seemed like someone that really cared for his family.
Or his crew.
After you know his backstory.
You sort of feel for him.
What he went through.
We have Noe.
One of my favorite characters in the series.
Not the series, but the manga.
Also, I forgot to mention the Cross Eyes.
Or another organization.
It was like a three-way struggle.
Between Nikaido and Kaiman.
And his family.
And then there were the Cross Eyes.
And I feel like...
Nikaido and Kaiman were just dragged into it.
Because, you know, amnesia.
And we didn't know much of Nikaido's past until later.
Kaiman giving the peace sign.
Got N.
Look at these.
These are like...
I don't know if these are actual leaves that she used.
Or...
I don't know.
It says the material here.
But, you know.
If you want to read in Japanese.
If you want.
I'm not in the mood.
We got Nikaido.
Some more pages.
This is my favorite character.
I don't know if his name is Hayes.
Or Kusakabe.
I don't know what his name was.
He took his name after his wife.
Who's a magic user.
And I forgot what that name was.
Or what his real name was.
But...
He was the chillest character in the entire series.
He was always in the cut.
He didn't side with N or Shin.
He didn't necessarily side with Kaiman or Nikaido.
He was just there.
He was there to help out wherever he can.
Because he's a doctor.
So anyone that was badly wounded or hurt.
He'll help them out.
And he didn't belong to a side.
He just was there.
And I love him for that.
Okay.
I'm not going to go through every single page.
But I'm going to go through...
Yeah.
I want to see some of her inked work.
Yeah.
This gives me more reason to believe that.
She is a traditional artist.
And you see the...
Right at the bottom here.
You see that she used a deleter paper.
So...
Reason to believe that.
She's using pen and ink for this.
This guy.
Sort of an important character.
I didn't realize how important he'd be.
Yeah.
Nikaido.
Shin.
Or Sin.
Well.
I guess his name would be.
I guess.
Wouldn't be pronounced Sin in Japanese.
It'd be Shin.
No.
It'd be Su.
Fujita.
I didn't like this character either.
He was sort of annoying too.
This guy.
Nikaido's old friend.
This is.
I think.
Kaiman was getting his memories back.
Or something.
Or.
Something along the lines of that.
It's definitely a gradual burn.
To realize who Kaiman is.
Because it's not obvious.
It's definitely.
It's not as easy or.
Straight forward as it is.
As I thought it was going to be.
I don't know if.
There are authors.
Trying to make Nikaido sexy or not.
I don't know.
Because.
I don't get that vibe from her.
Nor do I get that vibe from.
Noe either.
Again.
I'm sort of glad for that.
Because.
I don't necessarily want there to be.
Fan service characters.
In this.
Or I didn't want to.
There was technically none.
But.
You know.
Sometimes some characters.
Will show off some skin.
But that's not their.
Entire character.
Thank God.
Yeah.
Some of these pictures are.
I showed in the.
Artist analysis video.
Yeah.
I showed this image off.
We got Noe again.
We got more Noe.
OK.
I'm going to skip.
Skip around.
I'm not going to talk about that.
And yeah.
We have.
Some more concept art.
Yes.
Let's talk about the doctor.
And his wife.
He took her.
His.
He took her name.
And I didn't realize this before.
And.
I should have.
Probably make note of that.
The.
Setting.
In the magic realm.
And the setting in.
The whole.
Technically.
Very different.
And the people.
In the magic realm.
Have Japanese names.
Or sort of close.
To Japanese names.
While people.
In the whole.
Have more.
Weird.
American names.
I didn't realize that.
And they mentioned that.
In the manga.
But I completely.
Forgot about that.
I don't want to.
I don't know.
If we're going for this.
Spoiling.
Technically.
It's going to show.
Like some spoilers.
But.
Yes.
This is the.
Final.
Chapter art.
For chapter 167.
And basically.
What I did is.
I took these two images.
And I put them together.
So for the final image.
It's not like this.
But you know.
Edit it so it looks.
Natural.
And yeah.
New years.
And this is Kaimon.
And the main character.
For Die Dark.
To sort of commemorate.
You know.
Her other series.
And yeah.
Kaimon again.
Which I think is.
Supposed to be.
The cover.
Which is this.
Yeah.
And she has the index.
Of all of her images.
And so on and so forth.
And we have Kaimon.
With the Gyoza fairy.
I think it was.
And yeah.
That was Dorohedoro Mud and Sludge.
Again.
If you like her artwork.
That's the art book.
That she asked for it.
She drew this much.
Whoa.
Definitely recommend getting this.
Worth every penny.
And yeah.
Go and get this.
Get Dorohedoro.
Get Die Dark.
Support Kyu Hayashida.
If you like her art.
And her style.
And yeah.
Thank you.
For watching this video.
I'm going to make it short.
I'm going to edit around.
So I'm not.
Just.
Flipping through random pages.
Comment.
If you want to comment.
Like the video if you want.
And subscribe if you want.
Social media links are in the description.
Next video.
Is probably going to be some art videos.
As in like me drawing.
So.
Hope you look forward to that.
I know you guys.
Mainly want to see the artist analysis.
But.
This is an art.
Overall art channel.
I know I.
Sort of borderline.
An anime.
A manga.
But the crux of this.
Is mainly art.
There's a reason why.
I don't talk about the story.
Or at least.
I don't talk too in depth.
About the story.
In my artist analysis.
I do mention it briefly.
But then I mainly.
Just mainly focus on the art.
So.
Yeah.
Thank you for watching.
And I'll see you guys.
In the next one.
