Hi guys, this is why I believe this is the best medium format digital camera on the market
But I'm still considering getting rid of it
Stay tuned
So, as unbiased as I hope this review is
Full disclosure, Hasselblad did give this camera to me
In exchange for an unholy amount of Instagram reels
So, it still works, gotta be honest
I'm blessed that they sent me this though
Don't get me wrong
But I'm actually not obliged to make this video
The deal was Instagram reels
And they actually don't even know that I'm making this video
I'm not gonna send it to them
And I'll keep it, again, unbiased
Also, if you remember
I'm probably the only human being on earth
Or on YouTube, whichever one
To actually use the previous X1D II
Also, I've shot strictly with this camera for about 7 to 8 months
I've shot around 5000 images with this
And I've put it through everything
From commercial work to portrait work
Street photo work to landscape work
You name it
So, here's the review
So, first, I wanna talk about why I chose this over the X2D
Because I had a choice, actually
Again, if you know me
I've actually used the X1D II before
The problem that I had with that and why I got rid of it
Was because it ended up serving a very similar function
To DSLRs that I had
Although the image quality was very good
And I really liked it
Again, it served a similar purpose
And I couldn't justify having both
The X1D II was also very bulky
And much slower than these new series ones as well
So, although the image that comes out of the camera
Is actually exactly the same between this and the X2D
I chose this
Because of the unique package that this provides
It's very small
Especially paired with the modern lenses
The XCD lenses
And this is literally probably the only camera
That you can just hand hold like this
Which is a medium format digital camera
So again, this leads exactly to the pros
That I feel of this camera
The biggest one being the unique shooting experience
And that if you choose the X2D
You kind of have
If you already have a DSLR kind of style camera
Then you end up having two
But this one, it serves such a unique purpose
That it kind of sits in its own little genre
The second merit being obviously build quality
It is perfect
I honestly think it feels even better than having a Leica
The chrome is beautiful
It feels amazing
The way you kind of flip stuff up
And fidget with the buttons
And slide stuff to open
It feels perfect and clicky and tangible
I love it
And talking about the image quality
Again, obviously it's the same sensor as the X2D
The colors I really really enjoy
From the Hasselblad X series cameras
And also that paired with focus, the software
The images that you get are very lush
And the colors feel very natural
I think Hasselblad has its own natural color science
I don't exactly know how it works, I'm sorry
But it works, I know that
So let's go on to the cons
That I feel of this camera
One thing is that
It's a little bit fiddly with not much customization
It's hard to map out the buttons where you want it to be
For example, exposure control, aperture control
It takes some time to get used to
Next one is going along with this fiddly idea
The straps, yeah, it's the straps
It doesn't really work with a neck strap
Because if you put a neck strap on, it just kind of flops everywhere
So I do recommend using a hand strap, which I usually do
But then the problem with that is that
If you're, for example, on the move
And you have a hand strap on
The camera's probably sitting in your bag somewhere
And you're not shooting with it while you're on the move
But again, this camera isn't very fast
The autofocus isn't very fast anyways
And it's a two-handed operation
So yeah, even if it's on your neck
You're probably not going to whip it out
And suddenly take a photo of someone walking your way
Which again leads to my next point
Is the slow autofocus
It's slow, it's faster than the older models
But it's still very, very slow
You just kind of have to live with it
That's the whole concept of the camera anyways
But yeah, for example, if you're shooting on the streets
Someone's walking towards you
If you autofocus, it's probably not going to hit
So if you want something faster
This really isn't for you
There are two other points that I want to cover
For the cons
One is the lens choice
The modern lenses, the 38-55-90 XCD lenses
I think there's another one, I'm sorry
Is that they're faster than the old ones
And they're compact, but they're very pricey
And also what I realized is that
They don't really have much character
I used the...
When I was using the X1D2 before
I was using the older lenses
Like the 65 F2.8
Those have really nice character to them
These new ones don't
They're kind of flat, to be honest
The last one is
And I've already talked about this a few times
But the price
Obviously it's really hard to justify
Having a unique experience
When the price of this whole system
Is kind of insane
You're talking, you know
8,000, 9,000 dollars or something
For the body
And then, you know
3,000 to 4,000 dollar lenses
Each time you buy something
Again, it's a unique system
It differentiates itself
Between other cameras
But then
Do you really want to pay that much money
To have a little fun
Or maybe you do
Whoop
Vlog style
It's been a while
So yeah
Although I really love
The CF-V100C907X
Hmm
I am considering
Getting rid of it
And here's why
Honestly, most of it just goes to
Price
Slash value
Comparative to other systems
Obviously if this was
A few hundred bucks
I'd be keeping it, you know
So it's as simple as that
But again, when you start comparing it
To other systems
That's kind of the problem, isn't it
So let's say you have a Sony camera
For video and photo
And you have maybe like a Fuji
For your street photography
You kind of have everything covered
You have a workhorse video
DSLR-ish camera
And then you have a smaller
Streety camera that you can throw around
Let's say you have that
And then you throw in
The 907X in the equation
You already have a small camera
To take photos on on the street
And you already have a Sony
Which can actually take
Really really beautiful images
If you slap on a decent enough lens
And let's just say that
You suddenly found the 907X
On your lap
You already had most things covered
That's the problem
So then now you're thinking
Oh, maybe I can get rid of
The Fuji or the Sony
Not really
Because the Sony
You know, you're shooting video on it
Or you're shooting, you know
Your commercial photos on it
And it's reliable
You have all the lights
And all the triggers
And all the everything that goes with it
So you can't sell that
And you also have the Fuji though
So maybe you can sell that
Because the 907X is a small enough camera
But at the end of the day
It's not as small as the Fuji
Or a Ricoh
Or like a Q
It's not as fast as those cameras
So you can't really get rid of it
So now what happens
Well, now you just have a whopping
$10,000 plus camera
On your lap that you can use
Sometimes
And not to mention that the value of it
Is gradually decreasing
So maybe that's my point
It's a great camera
It's a great experience shooting it
I love it, I really love it
But if a camera is small
You do want it to be snappy and quick
Which this camera isn't
And to me that seems counterintuitive
In this fast-paced world
That we live in today
There's a high chance
I'll be getting rid of this for something else
But if I do
I will miss it
