Our daughter has celiac disease and has to go gluten free on a gluten free diet. We’re becoming a gluten free family! After Elena had celiac disease symptoms we had her tested and know Elena has celiac disease. There's so much involved with the disease as opposed to just a gluten sensitivity. A gluten free diet is just the beginning!

what's up everybody how's it going today
we are heading out we have things that
we have to do now now that we have found
out that Elena is officially celiacs we
are about to go do some make some
changes so let's go well this is the
kind of things that take place with that
than every second
apparently let me explain it let me
figure out what just happened daddy
we're gonna get you hold on so this F
girl was playing with this she must have
gotten this out of the purse and then
somehow Adeline saw it or F was playing
with it in her but she durst seeing how
when you put effort ly in the seat
because down put both of the kids in the
car how did he not see that flag was my
purse in Everly's I was when I got in
the car this was up here it wasn't in
her it was
Everly had this in the house so I put
her in her in her see out of you gave
this to her someone gave this to her and
her seat I saw there's a couple oils out
I put the oils back that's all I saw I
didn't see anything else put it close to
zipped it up apparently this was left in
there and is now ruined so there you go
that's just another adventure with
Adalind $20 you're wearing all over your
face
$20 you look like a million bucks s so
it's worth it right
just kidding let's get you cleaned up
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]
so one of the biggest things is your
toaster because it doesn't there's
literally no way to clean that and clean
old crumbs out of it the toasters are
expensive even at Walmart here they're
like obviously we want one with four
slots because we have so many kids but I
don't really want to pay 40 or 50 bucks
for one so there's one for 16 bucks it's
[Music]
bluster we have this really nice
stainless steel one so I'm kind of like
bummed out too you know yeah it is what
it is
[Music]
well this is getting more expensive than
I was hoping that's my feelings right
now it's not no it's not too bad that's
things that we can Walmart I mean how
much much cheaper can IKEA be than
Walmart y'all tell them in the comments
right now I want to see you blast it
right now
well like why would you say like little
plates from 250 days it'll be like happy
Walden I don't trust what they're using
to make all the stuff anyways hopefully
we're getting close to being done with
the kitchen we need bait stuff we've got
some pans colander other kitchen
utensils like pizza cutter and all that
stuff so because we will just wipe all
the stuff out of the kitchen and just
replace it all if you wonder where the
other girls are we left them with our
neighbors because we this would not
happen this would not happen with a halt
you know the girls
it would be a disaster we died I'd be
ready to go right now
mm all ready ready to go home but I even
more ready to go adds you a patient when
it comes to doing like shopping I hate
it
unless I'm shopping for myself that's
true can you at least be kind that's
very rude but you really if it's about
him he's like gung ho excited
well it's cuz I it's never about me it's
always about everyone else so that's why
yes it is you're enjoying this let's
meet in dark where's the milk chocolate
sorry this is beautifully now honey
you'll get your milk chocolate option
anymore y'all done so this is where
we're gonna be living for a while every
time we go to the grocery store
gluten-free sections and stores fire
starter kit now just like we're gonna
have to make some career moves in order
to afford
that costs more than our days killer
bread and it's like half a load
yep making our own might end up tasting
better these are good yeah
and you being crazy so here's a time
where if you are gluten free family help
us figure out how we're supposed to
afford this what do you do what do you
buy do we need to be buying all this in
bulk
probably yes that's a good question so
looks like this is our meal tonight see
that brown rice spaghetti gluten free oh
look at that I don't want to know how
much it's how much is it
well it's only four dollars and eight
cents for this gluten free animal
crackers three something and said okay
not too bad
okay 388
[Music]
all right we're on the way home
so I think we got a good amount of stuff
that's all I need more but the biggest
thing that we
it's gonna be groceries because we only
got enough like we got some a couple
snacks
[Music]
we really only got
like tonight's dinner and maybe
tomorrow's breakfast
which is fine but
clear out like our pantries like we have
Japanese bought a bunch of bread on sale
we buy this Dave's killer organic bread
maybe we can just keep that contained in
like one area you know
and use it up yeah
in that area
but now
the fun part and thankfully those two'll
probably taking up is too light
get rid of the other stuff
and scrub down the surfaces
we have to get rid of like any traces of
food
with free because if there's some crumbs
or something on the counter or in a
drawer like in our yeah buddy in our
life utensil paddy and there are traces
like crumbs and stuff back in transfer
the mutant works like a glue
so the only way to get it off is like to
scrub it with so far
some days my beeps cleaner and scrub
so that's next on the to-do list
[Music]
[Music]
well here's our first gluten-free meal
officially that's a family Elena come
here
[Music]
this is your first official free meal
we've got a couple plates that are
already empty that means mostly gone
she's the one that's hard to please yes
she is put the noodles in together like
that so they don't stick and no stop and
I want to see if it's non-gmo I didn't
look at the way I've been working my
bell up in here I have like this like
from here to there clean that's it and
it took me hours clean down there there
how to scrub the insides of the
cupboards how to scrub the insides of
the drawers I'm getting ready this is
clean this stuff needs to be washed this
stuff needs to be washed and then I
still have to go through the pantry I
still have to go through these cabinets
the pantry the fridge it's a lot ok so
we are gonna walk in the office real
quick and I were just so it's quite and
so I can like keep focus on one thought
because to be completely honest my head
is like all over the place right now
here we're rocking the messy bun because
today I'm gonna be trying to tackle the
rest of that so if you don't know celiac
disease is really serious I knew that it
was serious but I didn't understand
wholly like the extent of it until Elena
was diagnosed and I started reading more
it's not just a gluten sensitivity it's
not just oh she needs to avoid foods
with a gluten in it so so as long as
it's something that doesn't contain
gluten it's fine
it's a little bit more serious than that
what happens with celiac is that your
body basically it's an autoimmune
disorder
and so her immune system reacts ooh and
it goes like insane so if she consumes
any gluten even it so much is washing
your hands with the soap that has gluten
and then touching her food anything like
that it causes her body to have an
immune response and her body actually
damages its own small intestine over
time that kind of damage can lead to all
kinds of issues I mean you can die from
it basically if you don't get it treated
if you don't take care of it that kind
of exposure over and over will eat away
at your intestines and your stomach and
so it's really really important to
eliminate gluten 100% but and even like
over time let's say her symptoms weren't
that bad
you can develop issues with infertility
you can develop issues with secondary
things like diabetes type 1 diabetes you
can have osteoporosis like nervous
system damage that all kinds of stuff
happens when people with celiac disease
consume gluten and I'm not talking about
just eating a burger with regular bread
I'm talking about somebody touched
regular bread and then made her a
sandwich like I'm talking about
I used that plastic spoon to stir you
know baking mixes that had gluten and
then washed it and then used it to stir
this because plastic has scratches in it
and you get the gluten in you can't get
it back out so that's why we are taking
such extreme measures if you people are
like is that really necessary I'm like
yes because basically any trace of
gluten is like a poison and a toxin to
my daughter and everything I can do I
mean we're already so conscious with all
the products that we use so we don't use
a new thing artificially scented we
don't use harsh chemicals for the girls
like we avoid so many of those toxins
because I don't want her to struggle
with infertility or hormonal issues or
anything like that so this is just one
more thing to add the list for her
especially go on totally gluten-free in
our house it's gonna be the easiest
thing with five kids like I can't try to
keep gluten over here and I'm gluten
free over here it's gonna get contain
and like I said any little exposure is
gonna cause damage to Elena so whoo this
is a huge undertaking you guys I mean I
have to take all the stuff out of my
drawers throw away anything classic
anything with a nonstick surface because
that can be scratched anything like that
I think we've had to replace it all
apart my KitchenAid mixer and try to
clean it the best I can and then so
we've gotten new spoons new utensils new
whatever which is a lot we're just gonna
start over but I have to go in the
drawers and scrub them with soap and
water to scrub out any gluten go through
all like the baking step get rid of
anything that's open like even open
sugar next to flour could ruin it so
pray for us as we go through this
process it is exhausting and a little
bit overwhelming
to be honest I cried pretty much a lot
yesterday John also wasn't here for a
few hours who's visiting his dad his dad
had surgery and so I was kind of stuck
here by myself looking at this mess of
like massive workload to tackle and it
just overwhelmed me completely going to
the grocery store and seeing how
expensive gluten-free items are and
thinking about feeding a family of eight
it just is yeah it's it's overwhelming
so pray for us you guys I know we can do
it God is with us he's never left and
let us down I know he will provide for
our needs financially and with you know
emotional support and everything else so
we're trusting in him and we're trusting
that this is a process that's gonna make
us stronger as a family and healthier
and help us help other people especially
through our vlog being able to share
this whole journey yeah we're gonna take
one day at a time we're gonna share it
with you guys we're gonna take you
through the steps of converting to a
gluten-free household and also expecting
a baby on the way and all the things
that fall in between so we have a lot
going on right now John's not here he's
walking June to her friend's house I
asked a friend if she could come play so
that I can tackle the rest of the
kitchen because
it's hard to do it kids up adilyn is
napping so I'm gonna go do as much as I
can but we love you guys so much and
we're so thankful to have a community to
support us and be here through this
journey and every other just normal life
