And across the ring, fighting out of the red corner, wearing gold and black and officially
weighing in at 291.6 pounds. This Olympic silver medalist, now as a professional,
has 28 fights with 26 victories, including 21 wins by knockout. Only one defeat with one draw
from Choukou, China and New Jersey in the United States. The reigning and defending WBO
interim heavyweight champion of the world, Big Bang Zhang.
He's finding a home with that jab as well.
And at his age, he's not going to be. But while he can keep at this pace,
because he'll want to land the heavier shots,
Parker will be the sharpest. He got through with a nice jab a few seconds ago, Zhang,
with a left hand into the body. Keeps his back off them ropes, gives him his exits.
He's pecking with the lead hand there, Zhang.
Andy Lee just making the point to Parker that he doesn't want to be smothered by
Zhang, a right hand into the body. Parker's a good body puncher,
that's why it's important early doors. He doesn't get caught in here big while Zhang's fresh.
Parker as well, Zhang though, just trying to back him into the corner and tee up that left.
And you know it's when it was faint and then Zhang starts taking the steps back.
Oh, left hand there, straight down the middle from Zhang and Parker knocks onto his backside.
Further than he thought it would. As soon as he landed, he looked at the corner,
he was up on five, but that is just an example.
Yeah, it doesn't feel like he has to get the point back. That's gone now.
Now Zhang looking to climb into that right hook, leans in, really not. And Parker didn't see that
shaken up by Zhang. Began to get to him again a little bit towards the end of the round. Some
signs there. Even though he went down from the straight left hand. Yeah, the knockdown was just
a good straight accurate shot, but it's just a flash knockdown. Yeah, flash knockdown, but some
of the shots after that, there was more weight behind them. Straight down the middle. He just
turns at the waist and slides that left hand out. As he touches to the bridge of the nose,
but this power is real from Zhang. Looking at looking at Parker, it seems that he was
that concerned about the right hook. Let his own hands go. Yeah, that's a good shot.
Two good shots. The right hand to the body as well, really drive that in. And again, and again.
That's decent again from Parker. The right hand just moved. Your offense,
your game plan. There was times there, he was just waiting a little bit on Zhang.
Good shot. This is good work from Parker. He's breaking down already slowly, yeah?
We're going to go for the second round. Very heavy, but you know, Parker, the keeper Parker,
his movement, his work rate. You don't want to stand there and trade with him. Get your shots
up fast. He's got to move his arm. Tire his legs out some more.
Just stooping, looking for that left hook.
Parker looking for the touch. Looking to try and go after Parker particularly
in the first half of the fight. That's absolutely what you want to do.
Oh, shot.
Nice right-hand counter there from Parker as Zhang overreaches.
Just takes that little bit less out of you, getting up off the stool.
That's all that he replaces though.
Again, Parker looking for the Zhang jab.
Left hook underneath the combination from Zhang.
Interesting in a situation like that in the first two, a couple of 10-10s,
it's difficult to argue with that. The closing stages of a round did, but
slip and tuck at this stage.
You know, if they were equal even a round down at the halfway stage,
they're happy with how the fight's going.
He did feel a little bit of a left in round five. It could be a case that Zhang was
happy to take a little bit of a round off because he knows that he's probably...
Stamina hasn't been his best asset through his career, so
both corners will be keeping an eye on the scorecards.
It's been a good round for Zhang this time.
Big right hand there from Parker. A solid, solid shot, but Zhang
just seemed to eat it up and then look to let his own left.
Trying to chop down with that left hand.
Extravagantly, but he's doing it just enough. He's taking it off,
varying the height of it. Rolls out to his right hand side there.
Every now and again, he'll dip really low. A difficult target.
Left hand followed by a right landed there for Zhang. A cool target.
Zhang punching down as Parker dips.
Yeah, got caught with a chop with right hand.
Just above the ear, wasn't it?
Yeah.
As it is, and this will be a 10-8 round in Zhang's favour. Another one he's had.
Parker's just drifted off the body a little bit. Good right hand.
Good left hook to the body.
He's not going to punch again straight away.
Parker should go straight back at him.
Ball remaining.
He was boxing well, wasn't he, up to the knockdown?
Yeah, here it is.
He was just that short chopping.
Shot one-two for Parker.
Zhang has to move his feet in order to put him down.
Again, that'll tire his legs out.
That's a goal for Zhang. Again, it travels absolutely no distance whatsoever,
but you could just see the...
Oh, shut up.
Good shot for Parker.
Solid right-hand lead, almost.
He was in danger of an uppercut, and he knew it.
Black skirt design with the black gloves.
Zhang's one of them really made clean contact.
Parker, nice quick hands.
Not too much on the right hand into the body.
One of these rounds are close.
And there's a two ten-eight round.
This is better.
Decent combination of jab.
And that's where Parker faints.
He's falling for the feints.
Doubles up on the jab.
Panicking him.
He's sticking to the method, but there's two rounds to go after this,
and at the minute, in that round...
How are you feeling?
Good.
You look great out there.
You're blocking a very smart fight now.
And in the first minute of each round, he's had the rest, Zhang.
That's when he's dangerous, but then he gets tired again,
and that's when he's got to get busy.
And when he starts letting his shots roll around the back of the guard,
and again there,
bangs his gloves together there, Zhang.
Another good jab from Parker,
just sets his feet a bit more for the one-two.
Then you would say that Parker is going to...
Right hand from Parker landed.
Zhang is really strong with Parker's feints as well.
Even when Parker's not shooting, the feint and the defensive...
Heading into the final minute of round 11.
Parker just needs to keep doing what he's doing.
The last 30 seconds of the round now,
this is where Parker wants to put a few combinations together.
It'd be very handy if we could get into that Zhang corner
and see what they're saying before.
He's got to go for it, hasn't he, in this final round?
Of the two of them, he is the one who needs his final round.
Yeah, I think so.
I'm trying to read the body language of the crowd.
I think they feel they might need a knockout or certainly knockdown.
A couple of points in it on the viewers' verdicts.
And I wouldn't argue with that.
He responded really well to the knockdown.
9, 10 and 11, they were Parker rounds.
Whatever way the judges...
If they don't go 10-10, they go 10-10.
Which way do they go?
Again, we used this analogy earlier,
I would rather be Parker.
And he's not pulling the trigger.
And Parker provided a response.
And since then, honestly, apart from that,
which did occur in isolation, really,
he's not done much at all.
But you have to give Parker the credit for that.
And he's come up with a very efficient game plan.
He's grown so much as a fighter these past few years.
He really has.
Looks for the hook there, Parker.
Sits down and slots in that right hand.
There it goes.
The bell is confidently out from the corner to shake hands
with his opposite number, Sean George.
Yeah, better lateral movement.
Very good, very intelligent and efficient job.
And new WBO interim heavyweight champion,
the fighting power of the New Zealand,
Steve Gray, 114-112,
which translates as eight rounds to four
in favour of Joseph Parker.
