In today's lesson, we're going to look at some ball control skills to help turn you
into soccer stars.
So all you need is a soccer ball, a few cones, and you're ready to go.
Elijah, you ready?
Yeah!
Yeah, let's go.
First up, we're going to do some toe taps.
Now when we do toe taps, we just tap the top of the ball with our foot and then switch.
So you can do your right foot and left foot.
And if you need, you can use your arms to help you balance.
So let's give that a go, Elijah.
We'll start going really slowly, nice and controlled.
Good.
And then as you get good at that, you can slowly go a little faster, a little faster.
And if you're getting really good, you can even try really quickly.
But Elijah, you just keep doing what you're doing.
And when you get really good, you just practice tapping that ball.
Good stuff, Elijah.
Excellent.
Nice.
The next skill is side-to-side taps.
So Elijah, can you tap the inside part of your foot for me?
That's it.
And the other foot.
And the other leg.
Good.
So we're going to do small touches, left and right, using the inside parts of your feet.
Now it's not easy.
If you lose control, that's okay.
You can just start again.
Good stuff.
So small touches.
Oh, look how you bring it back, I like that.
Small touches.
Getting a real good control.
Excellent, Elijah.
That's really good.
So these are side-to-side taps.
Really good for that control.
A few more.
Excellent, Elijah.
And hold it there.
The next one to try is step-overs.
So we're going to leave the ball on the ground, and we're going to try and do big circles
around the ball without touching it.
Now if you touch it, that's okay, but you can just practice going left and right foot
over that ball without touching it.
Big circles.
Go in and out.
Nice.
And then if you get good, you can slowly go a little faster.
Now it's not easy.
Good, Elijah.
That's it, keep going.
It's not easy.
Whoa.
It's not easy.
And if you're really good, you can even go super fast like that.
Awesome.
Now we're going to try balancing the ball on our feet.
So make a spoon with your foot, try and put the ball on there, and see how long you can
hold it on your foot off the ground.
Yes, you did it.
Good stuff.
Hey, you can do both legs.
Try and hold that ball.
Good, Elijah.
Excellent.
See how long you can hold that ball on there for.
It's not easy.
See, if you need to use your arms, you can use your arms.
Yes.
Good.
Nice.
Excellent.
And if you want to try something even harder, you can try rolling it and then flicking it
up.
But Elijah, you keep doing what you're doing.
Good.
Balancing it like an egg on a spoon.
Easy.
Look at that.
Hey.
That was for like five minutes.
That was ages.
Now we're going to practice our trapping and rolling.
So what we're going to do, Elijah, is we're going to trap the ball using the sole part
of our feet, the underneath part where our toes are.
And all you're going to do is you're going to trap it and roll it to the left, roll it
to the right, and trap.
You can roll it forwards and trap, and you can roll it backwards and trap.
We're just going to be practicing trapping that ball, okay?
So can you trap and roll it?
Good.
Stop that ball from moving and roll.
Good.
Trap it.
Excellent.
Keep rolling it.
Rolling it to the left and the right.
Keep going.
Try and stay on your feet.
You can practice using your left and right foot.
Good.
Come back this way a little bit.
Excellent.
Trap and roll.
Now we've got two spot markers each with our balls, and what we're going to try and do
is practice dragging it and stopping it on the spot.
Okay, you're practicing going left and right.
Can you do that too now, Elijah?
Practice dragging it and trapping it on the spot.
Try not to fall over.
You can practice using both your left and right foot.
Good.
And when you're balanced, drag it over to the other spot.
You can practice using just one foot.
Excellent.
Good job, Elijah.
If you don't have spot markers, that's fine.
You can even draw on the ground with some chalk.
Keep going.
Try not to fall over.
Using only your feet.
Now for a bonus trick, we're going to do some flick ups.
So what I want you to do is step one side of the ball, step the other side, squeeze
it and try and flick it up as high as you can.
Whoa.
Good.
Try again.
Step, step and flick it up.
Nice.
Keep going.
You've got to squeeze that ball, lift your knees up and flick it high into the air.
Nice.
You nearly caught it there.
Try again.
Nearly.
Go one more.
That was good.
You caught it.
Nice.
Now we're going to practice passing the ball in groups of two.
So me and Elijah are at our cones.
What we're going to do is pass the ball with the inside part of our foot.
Can you tap the inside part of your foot?
That's where we pass the ball from.
Okay, so Elijah, you're ready.
I'm going to step, I'm going to turn my foot and pass it with the inside.
Good.
Okay.
Try and follow through to your target.
Keep going.
Good.
Okay.
Try and stay on your feet.
Here we go.
Ready?
Oh, and you've trapped it there.
Excellent.
Well, the next part we can do is trap the ball.
So we trap and then we pass.
Trap and pass.
Good.
Trap and pass.
Good stuff, Elijah.
Excellent.
And once you've done that, now you can trap the ball.
Carefully step over it and then pass.
Can you do that for me?
Trap, step over, pass.
Nice.
You ready?
Try again.
That was good.
I'm going to step over it and pass.
Good.
Good stuff.
You can practice with both your left and right foot.
Ready?
Let's do one more.
Ready?
I've done my step over, trap, step over.
Oh, that was a good one.
Now we're going to try trapping and rolling it to our partners.
So I'm going to step on the ball and I'm going to roll it and Elijah is going to trap it
and he's going to roll it back.
Nice.
So we're rolling now using the sole or underneath part of your feet.
Good.
You can practice both left and right foot.
Nice.
I think we're quite good at this, Elijah, aren't we?
Should we get another ball?
All right.
Trap that ball.
Now we're going to try two balls.
So now you hold one.
We're going to go three, two, one, and we're going to roll it.
Ready?
Three, two, one.
Oh, they crashed.
Ready?
Three, two, one.
Nice.
Three, two, one.
Good.
Three, two, one.
One more.
Three, two, one.
Let's do a big crash.
Ready?
Three, two, one.
Now we're going to practice some drop kicks.
Now a drop kick is when you hold out the ball in front of you.
You drop it and you kick it before it hits the ground.
So Elijah, can you practice that?
Hold it out and kick it.
Excellent.
Good.
Now when you kick it, you kick it with the laces part of your foot.
Can you tap the laces part of your foot or where your laces or the straps would be?
That's where you kick that ball from.
So you can point your toe to the ground.
Ready?
Hold the ball out and kick.
Oh, good catch.
Whoa, that was a big one.
I like how you bent your leg there, your knee, and then you went.
That's what I want you to do.
Really good.
Hold it out.
Bend your leg.
All right.
Get ready.
Here we go.
Whoa, that was a massive one.
A big one.
Here we go.
We got one more.
Do one more for me.
As powerful as you can.
Thanks for watching.
Hopefully you can work on your soccer skills today.
We'll see you next time for another sports lesson.
