Hey guys, just listen to these specifications. At least 800 horsepower out of a Ford Mustang
supercharged engine that will cost at least $300,000. How come? What's going on? Well,
Zach is behind the camera. We're here in Detroit and we're going to give you a hands-on experience
with the most extreme Ford Mustang ever made. Right, Zach? Yeah, the Ford Mustang GCT. Yes,
just look at it in the flesh, just spinning on this turntable. This car has presence. It's wider.
It's bigger. It has active aerodynamics. It's got very special wheels and tires,
special suspension. It's got special brakes. So what Ford did really is they took everything
they knew and they worked with Multimatic and other very, very smart people and people involved
in racing and racing drivers, and they've created this ultimate Mustang that can also be a race car,
but it's street legal. That's the craziest part about this, Andrei, is just with all the changes
they've made. And I think we left the titanium exhaust off that list. Well, we'll dig a little
deeper, right? Because we have to in this video. But right now, just take it in, look at the
aerodynamics. Everything is functional. So even though this car looks aggressive and mean and
really amazing, everything is functional for aerodynamics. It's actually a better deal than I
expected, Zach, because, you know, $300,000, but it's two cars in one, they said, because it has
active aero. So there's a DRS, drag reduction system wing in the very back. There's some active
aero flaps underneath the car, so it can have downforce in the corners. But when that wing
is in a different position, open air and the flaps open underneath the car, it can be more
slippery in the straight line to reach higher speeds. It has carbon ceramic brakes, gigantic
calipers. We can show you a little bit up close because they have also different stations with
this car to show all the different components, but it has a 5.2 liter supercharged engine, right?
And like we said, 800 horsepower is what they list at first. By the way, do you see the open
area in the back with fans? You're probably wondering why are there cooling fans in the back
of this Mustang? It's not for the reason you think. No, it's not an engine. There's a transmission,
or transaxle, eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle in the rear of this car for basically a perfect
50-50 weight distribution because that big supercharged V8 is in the front and then there
is a driveshaft, carbon fiber, leading to the eight-speed transaxle in the rear,
basically distributing the weight in a perfect way. Yeah, this car has a perfect 50-50
weight distribution. Staggered tire sizes, so 325-30
ZR20 in the front and 345-30-20 in the rear, so 325 by 30 in the front and 345 by 30 in the rear,
and the wheel design is super special and unique, and you can see all the inlets and outlets
for the engine because the engine will get hot, and this is also, this car is also, we can show
you some of the other racing versions of the Mustang. Yeah, we'll go through that in a minute.
So it's kind of the pinnacle of what a Mustang can be. This is pretty amazing.
And the thing is, we'll have to wait just a second to take it in for the car to swing back
around again, but I can show the inside. Now we can't go crawling inside it, but it is absolutely
road legal. You look inside, it looks like a street, it doesn't look like a stripped-out race
car, it looks like a legit. It's got a dashboard, it's got screens, it's got gauges, it's got,
you know, pretty supportive seats. One thing I wanted to mention too is Ford specified a
full-on hydraulic control system that lives in the trunk, so this thing doesn't have what you
consider to be a standard trunk. Obviously, you don't expect that with those fans, but that's to
control the DRS system that weighs all the aerodynamics that are going on in this car.
Yeah, and I also mentioned two cars in one, right? So what did I mean? Well, aerodynamics is one
piece. Also, it's suspension, it's adjustable Multimatic suspension, a spool valve technology,
which also is used in Formula One and also off-road vehicles and off-road racers,
can allow for multiple ride heights up to about 40 millimeters. Yeah, about 1.6 inches. Yeah,
about 1.6 inches of height difference, and also stiffness can be changed with a push of a button.
So you can have changed ride height, stiffness of the suspension, aerodynamics, so really dynamically
on a racetrack, this could be two cars in one, which racers love. Yeah, absolutely.
Pretty much change up the whole dynamic of the car. So it reminds me, I'm a truck guy,
like a Ford Raptor, where you can select different parameters, you can make the shocks stiffer or
softer, you can change the exhaust system, you can change the steering feel. So this car does a lot
of the same stuff, but it just doesn't go off-road. It's meant to hug the road and the racetrack
with tenacity. So what do you think, Andre? You want to go through and take a look at some of
the components that come together to make this car? Yeah, let's dig in. So this is kind of a
ballroom here in Detroit Convention Center. We've got a little bit of a crowd. Yeah, just a little
bit. And people, we've been waiting for this car. Yes, it was in California, right? Yes, it was first
shown there. But everybody's hungry for this car. So let's walk this way, Zach. Excuse us,
please. Sorry about that. We're talking about Ford here. I mean, we're talking about, you know,
all-American car company based in Detroit. It's only fitting that this car should actually have
a full-on reveal in Detroit. All right, Zach. I was wondering if I needed you to be my blocker,
but I guess we made it out okay there. Yeah. So let's take a look at the wing.
Can you see any of this, Zach? Yeah, the light actually does help a little bit. So carbon fiber,
you can see. So this is an open position. So the air can actually come through here. Okay.
Are you going to squish my fingers? Not intentionally. I think we should be able
to control this. And so this flap can actually move and close and create drag. You put the light
here. There are buttons that are supposed to do this. It doesn't seem to be functioning. Well,
it's okay. It's not on the car. So that's all right. Let's keep moving. So that's the wing.
A very unique design. So active arrow. Yes. So let's keep moving because it gets better.
So this is the suspension system. And actually, there's a couple of ride heights
that if you... I think maybe Jared was here? Who broke this? Anyway, but you could see
the suspension system. Can you move around over here? You can kind of see the adjustable
Multimatic ASV. And ASV is adaptive spool valve damper. And once again, this enables the change
in ride height. We also saw that on the Ford GT mid-engine supercar, right? So it's similar
technology, but now they've learned from that program and they've taken it to the next level.
If we want to swing around to the other side, you can see another crucial piece of this setup,
which are the massive Brembo brakes and carbon ceramic rotor. It's really hard to explain how
big this is. This is my hand. Carbon ceramic. Look at the thickness of it. It's at least an inch
thick. I can put my finger inside of this cooling slot here. And the calipers are massive, Zach.
Look at, once again, my hand. So these front brakes are incredibly massive. So let's keep moving.
So this is what we looked at in the rear of the car, right? So there's a little bit of a vent
and it's a cooling system. There's some fans inside of this. Can you see that? Yeah. So we
saw that already and they're calling it the transaxle cooling system. And they wanted to
do it this way. Instead of taking like a actually, you know, cooling liquid from a radiator up front,
you can actually have some fans here in the back and actually cool it that way.
I don't know if you could see any of this, but this is carbon fiber. And this is another reason
why this car is so expensive, right? I mean, everything is carbon fiber. Yeah. Everything
is carbon fiber. Everything is bespoke for this particular GTD. Let's keep moving this way.
This is going to be cool, Zach, because we can see the rear suspension,
which is bonkers. When I first saw this, I almost fell over. So this is the rear of the car,
obviously independent suspension. But you see how these rods are connected to these A-arms
and they're actually what's pushing on the shock itself. So they couldn't package, you know,
this big of a shock in a vertical position, right? So you have to package it this way.
I'm not smart enough to describe this completely, but it's cool. I'm not either. I'm not
a huge motorsports expert, but this is race car stuff. This is racing car stuff. Yeah, exactly.
These are rear brakes. Once again, massive, a little bit smaller than the other ones,
just a little bit, but still massive brakes. And they're saying this ratio is one to one.
So if you look at this plate, I don't know if this will show up on camera.
So there you go. Again, adaptive spool valve technology, cross shock spring system,
has a motion ratio to damper of one to one, providing an extensive range of available
damping and continuously adapts to balance the ride and handling. Okay. Sorry for blinding folks
with the backlight there, but hopefully you got that. All right, let's look at the transaxle.
So inside of that suspension system lives this guy. So this guy is an eight speed dual clutch guy,
and he's a high torque capable because he has to be, because you're pushing a lot of torque to him.
So this is a subframe. This is the transmission and also the axle. This is where the axles,
half shafts would be mounted down here. And then you have the carbon fiber drive shaft.
I don't know if you can see that. I'm trying to use my light
and this is where the engine would be. So this is the input basically from the engine here,
and then it goes back to the car. So you could read a little bit of information here,
5.2 liter eight speed. Yes. All right. But the rumor for a little while Andre was that,
you know, because of all this going on with the rear mounted transaxle, some people were
thinking that their GTD would actually be a mid engine Mustang. Yeah. And also those cooling
vents on the rear, on the side of the car. Some people were spreading rumors that could be rear
engine. It's not. So we, we learned this already, right? So it's not, let's look at some of the
racing cars that are also showing here. This is a brand new livery and actually CEO for the Jim
Farley was here a little bit ago. And he said that they're building a whole pyramid, right?
From basically privateer, you know, regular folk going racing to semi-pro to pro.
Let's start over here. So this is a dark horse R. I think we did a video already describing this
car, right? Yeah. Case and Paul covered this video when we did our drive of the dark horse.
That's really great. Look, slick tires. I mean, this is already a prepped car that you can buy
and put it on the track. Michelin tires. Once again, now we have this Mustang GT four.
So now we going into different classifications of racing, right? GT four is kind of a little
bit more entry level, but if you look inside Zach, it's a full racing cage with a full racing setup.
So this is not a street car by any means. Yeah. The difference in philosophies here with each
example. So this is the GT four car and Ford is serious about this. You know,
they want to enter as many different classifications and different racing around
the world. They were very specific that they wanted to take on the world with not only GTD,
but also the rest of the race cars. Oh boy. And now we increasing performance again.
This is the GT three car. Uh, and this is just look at this diffuser in the back, Zach. I mean,
this is not, so this is not so, I mean, this car has a lot of performance, but they also have a
lot of regulations, right? They do. Yeah. They have to build within a very specific set of
regulations. Yeah. So, and the GTD car, I mean the street car and they could relax, you know,
they could not follow as many regulations and actually build the car. They really wanted to
build. Wow. Zach, these wheels are pretty special. Wow. Sorry. I'm a little bit speechless. You know,
seeing the GTD and then seeing these race cars too. You can kind of see the body work as well
in the front. Hi. Thank you. Oh, sorry. Sorry. We just walked through somebody's shot Zach.
I'm sorry about that. All right. So should we close here? Yeah, absolutely.
So there you go. This is why let me get in the light guys. This is why the GTD Mustang is the
most extreme Mustang that costs $300,000. If that's not clear, I mean, is it a fair price?
I have no idea. Is Ford making money on that price? I have no idea, but it's packed with
technology and it's pretty obvious that it's packed with racing technology. So
we're going to sign off for now. Zach, thank you. And alltfl.com in one place. You can find
all of our coverage from the Detroit Auto Show 2023 or everything automotive in one place.
