world get their presents every year the story has been heard so often that it's difficult not to associate the man in red with the ventilation structure this story however is a bit different from those you've heard before in the small town of dinwiddie county virginia there was something strange going on with one resident's chimney and it didn't involve santa his elves or anything to do with holiday cheer one family reported hearing strange noises coming from their chimney but no one knew exactly what was causing it once authorities arrived on the scene they were surprised by what they found dinwiddie county in virginia was your average quiet county where everyone knew each other and most people were either friends or acquaintances no one would have ever thought that something like this would have happened in a place like that it was something that would have only been seen in movies on that fateful tuesday afternoon firefighters and the authorities were called to the peaceful neighborhood as several people reported hearing noise every time they passed the chimney of one of the houses on that fateful afternoon when the fire and emergency crew arrived on the scene loud shrieks like someone calling out for help were heard coming from the chimney a young girl on the scene begged them to check it out but they had no idea what they would find was going to change their little town forever after hearing the weird noise themselves they immediately tried to figure out a game plan to release the person from their 10 by 10 inch chimney cell they were also trying to figure out how the person got there to begin with they believed that whoever was trapped must have jumped into the chimney feet first then slowly wiggled their way down to the bottom which was located in the basement of the home their theory proved to be right after inspecting the house they realized that it would have been almost impossible to come from below as both the doors and the windows were locked their theory was that the person climbed up the chimney and like old saint nick hopped in to try to gain access to the house unfortunately they did not succeed whoever was in there had no way of getting out and emergency services were working against the clock to get them out their precarious position posed a threat to the rescue team their initial thought was to try to get them out from the top but they decided to go from the bottom and work their way up instead according to them it was safer than pulling from the top as whatever was in the chimney was clearly unable to move now with a proper plan in place the crew set out on the tedious task of saving the person stuck inside the chimney it would be a long process because they would have to completely take apart the chimney and work their way up much like a puzzle when they began working they heard the voice tell them where to work but unfortunately it was not the voice they wanted to hear the voice was that of a child and upon learning this critical piece of information the entire crew as well as the homeowners went into the basement and carefully pulled the bricks out one by one after a while they noticed that they were getting closer and closer to the source of the mysterious child that had been plaguing the tenants as well as the neighbors when they got to the source they could not believe their eyes at first they thought it might have been a thief but they were horrified when they saw a little boy in the chimney the mysterious noise came from a five-year-old boy who lived right next door after doing some digging they found out that he sneaked out of his third story bedroom window and onto the roof of the house he then jumped into the chimney where he would eventually be found they also learned that the little girl who begged authorities to find out what the noise was when they first arrived on the scene was his little sister who might have seen the boy when he climbed out of the room authorities now believe that he climbed down the 20-foot tall chimney feet first as a way to get down to the ground and accidentally got stuck inside the fire and ems chief dennis hale stated over time he had shimmied his way all the way to the very bottom of the chimney in the basement of the house they knew that he had been there for at least a couple of hours but they weren't exactly sure how much time had gone by thankfully not only was the little boy responsive but he was able to assist in his own rescue according to the response team he was able to tell them specific things like how he was standing on a pile of dirt and how his arms were positioned they used that information to guesstimate where his feet were and began to chisel away at the chimney with their tools although it seemed like forever it took the emergency response team a total of two hours to get the little boy out and thankfully he was okay there are several stories of people getting stuck in chimneys and things not going very well chief hale said in an interview anytime you have a child involved in an incident especially one where it's going to take some time to rescue them it's always stressful one of the rescue team's biggest fears was possible soot inhalation in addition to the bruises he had sustained he was quickly taken to the hospital for observation and his parents were happy to report that he was in good shape despite a few scrapes and bruises he was back to his normal self shortly after going home just a few years before in 2011 an eight-year-old boy from utah decided to climb down a couple's chimney in the hopes of getting a glass of water he ended up getting stuck in their chimney for four hours before anyone realized he was there in a not so happy story back in 2015 construction workers in colorado were breaking down a cabin when they discovered the body of 18 year old joshua maddox who had gone missing 10 years before for this little boy he'd only been stuck for a few hours and he was lucky that he lived in such a peaceful town as no one would have heard him if he'd been stuck in a city chimney chief hale went on to say that the little boy was a daredevil that's all i can say he will have a great story to tell at first grade next year it's a story he'll be able to tell his future kids and grandchildren [Music] you
