Russell, Leclerc are in. They've rolled the dice.
That's smart. I like it from Russell and from Leclerc.
These are fast drivers in good grip positions that have given that up to put on slicks and save themselves a pit stop.
Five red lights at Silverstone!
And the British Grand Prix is go!
They crawl from the line and Oscar Piastri has the traction.
Max Verstappen thinks about the chop.
He hangs on to the race lead from pole position.
Piastri is now compromised and Lando Norris knows it.
The driver currently in third, trying to improve ahead.
He can't get by, but he's angling that car.
Hamilton diving to the inside.
The top four remain. How they left the grid.
Verstappen, then Piastri, Norris and Hamilton.
Pierre Gasly got a mighty launch off the line.
He's up three places.
Yeah, and we'll look at that early break for Verstappen as the two McLarens were battling through.
Off in the background we saw a racing buzz.
It's got to be Liam Lawson who has gone off.
That is the heavy contact.
We saw the flash of Lawson spinning around, but the car damaged, the suspension impacted and race over.
He'll see Ocon's there and think, let's try and hang it.
But he won't know that Ocon has, I think, Yuki Tsunoda on his inside as well.
Who the hell is that? Stop out.
Who the hell is that?
Whoever this horse was next to me.
Oh, dude, he just drove straight into the side of me.
What happened to the Brazilian driver in the points a week ago?
Look, it's so slow.
Yeah, man, sorry.
It's OK, no worries.
Verstappen is loose.
He's fast and loose right now up front, keeping the McLaren behind.
But look at his lines, he's soaring away.
He's nearly lost it.
And Piastri just has to pick his moment.
The championship leader comes out of the slipstream.
Pass the red ball.
Papaya out front.
Piastri takes the lead of the British Grand Prix.
And even though this is the Lando Norris grandstand, they're cheering for everyone right now.
Incredibly difficult conditions for everyone right now.
Yeah, it never rains, but it pours.
That is a proper dumping of water as they go down Wellington Street into Brooklands.
Look at how much traction Lando Norris has in comparison.
Send it to Maggot's corner.
Side by side.
Lando Norris knows he's got better tyres at the moment.
And Verstappen is clinging on to the track at the moment.
We saw that radio message there.
They're bringing in Piastri.
He's off.
He's off at last.
Couple of moments.
One, two, three.
And this time he goes off the racetrack.
And Max Verstappen will just bring it back to the pits.
They will all be heading in on this lap.
So those who have stopped, it's not quick.
It's not quick there for Lando Norris.
And Max Verstappen, having lost the position, gains it back.
That was Charles Leclerc off the road at Beckett's corner.
And he is lucky because that grass is not flat, I can tell you.
This is on the verge of a safety car.
And it is extraordinary rain.
It is biblical out there.
Oscar Piastri has a clear view.
Everyone else, less so.
As we go back to attacking racing at the British Grand Prix.
And that is Russell to the inside of Lewis.
Hamilton at Abbey Turn.
That's an unusual one.
Yeah, Hamilton still struggling to find the grip.
The first couple of laps of the race, he was there.
Oh, and it's very, very tight.
Very, very close to contact as Hamilton gets ahead.
The scrambling around Ocon, who is dropping like a stone.
But that was a brilliant move then from Hamilton, having lost the place to Russell.
Went round the outside of Ocon.
Russell looked to the inside.
And he lost one place, but then gained two.
And the safety car is out once more.
Because it's a big moment for Isaac Hadjar, who's gone off on the restart lap.
This gives us a great insight to just how little the car sees.
He's rear-ended.
Oh, my word.
Rear-ended the car in front.
I didn't see him.
I mean, he appeared out of nowhere, man.
Oh, my God.
The safety car is ending.
And that is Max Verstappen past the race leader.
Enough for the timing to swap them round.
Here we go again.
Pick your restart moment.
You cannot be…
Oh, he's going to lose it!
Max Verstappen spins round from second position.
And loses a hatful of places.
Verstappen had to take avoiding action.
And he drops down to ninth position in the Grand Prix.
Currently racing up against the Williams of Alex Albon.
He's in a Williams sandwich at the moment.
Oh, mate.
This is suddenly against Verstappen.
It's a ten-second time penalty for Oskar Piastri.
Look at the difference in closing speed again down at Stowe Corner.
So, Hamilton, will he go for the inside?
This is what he wants.
The inside line.
He gets past the Alpine.
And the crowd will love that move.
The Ferrari man is up to P5.
Here comes Hülkenberg.
Hülkenberg's got DRS.
Hülkenberg goes through to a podium position.
It is race number 239 in his Formula 1 career.
And you just watched Hülkenberg go to third.
With the DRS, Hamilton now has a chance to make it through cleanly past Stroll as well.
He's very close into the brake.
He's out of village.
And Hamilton has the inside line.
Hamilton has the place.
Verstappen through Turn 1.
Will he try a dive down into 3?
Will he try a dive into 4?
I'll just keep naming the corners until he tries a dive.
Keep going, DC.
There we go!
Number 4 comes up for car number 1.
And he makes his way by.
So Norris goes again.
10-second wait for McLaren.
Now they get the signal.
They get the call.
And he's back into the Grand Prix.
He goes for the inside.
But is he going to have contact?
Yes!
And it's happened before at Silverstone with the Haas cars.
Baermann and Ocon come together, racing each other.
Tick off the pit stop because that one's gone to plan.
Lando has the lead at Silverstone.
But how can he keep it between the white lines with Piastri 5.8 seconds behind?
I don't think the phenomenon before was very fair.
If you don't think it was fair either, I think we should swap back and race.
Charles Leclerc with the correction into the gravel.
And he's still P14 after that moment like he was last year.
Yeah, that's painful in still corner.
In 2025, it's Norris' name on the trophy.
Lando Norris wins the British Grand Prix.
Oscar Piastri will say the penalty was so unfair.
But it's a McLaren 1-2 as Norris takes seven points out of his advantage.
And how about this?
No one has ever waited as long to stand on a Formula 1 podium.
Get rid of that stat and celebrate Niko Hülkenberg.
239 starts and a podium finisher in Formula 1.
On the last lap, Pierre Gasly's tidy race had one more pass.
He got past Lance Stroll into stow corner.
Bravo. Nice pass. Nice race for Alpine and Pierre as well.
This is a day to savour the sight and sound of Silverstone
with a surprise podium finisher in Niko Hülkenberg.
A controversial penalty for Oscar Piastri.
And a home win for Lando Norris.
