Mekong Delta Tour - The REAL Vietnam

Good morning guys, I think we drank too much last night. Oh, I got a little ticky crote there. We just come down for breakfast at our hotel because it advertised that there was a free breakfast when you book it. We went to reception, they gave us a bit of paper and started walking us outside. We were like, where are we going? We've come to a different hotel to eat their breakfast basically, so hilarious. We're drinking coffee, I've got some toast, George had some rice. This is like Vietnamese coffee I think, it's like really thick, black and it tastes a bit chocolatey. It's weird, but it's nice. We have three minutes, we need to go. Hi, nice to meet you. Very awesome. It's so cool here, so different to anywhere we've been. There's like parks either side of this road and there's everyone like doing yoga, like workouts, there's gyms and stuff. Everyone's on it this morning. Today we are doing a cruise along the Recon Delta, which is very exciting, but we're doing it at the company called Les Rueves and instead of getting like a four hour drive to it, which is what a lot of things you have to do, we're getting on a speed boat in a second. So we're going to cruise on there for about an hour and they've got some really exciting things planned today, but it looks absolutely amazing. So thank you so much Les Rueves for sending us on this tour. We can't wait to show you guys what we get up to because it looks like a pretty amazing day. Is your voice all right? Actually, mine's a bit croaky. Hello. That wine last night. Not good. Good morning guys. It's early. We're about to go and get on a speed boat. We're doing a tour of the Recon Delta this morning. This place we're getting the boat from is absolutely amazing. It's like a massive hotel. They said that sometimes it's 10 weddings here at the same time and it's just beautiful. We're just looking out of the river now and the things that these boats are carrying, I just saw one with like coal piled up and this one's got thousands of like bags of something on. Would you like to have a coffee? Yes, please. Black coffee. Second coffee of the day already. We've got an iced Vietnamese coffee here. So sweet. Oh my god, yeah. Much better. It tastes like a milky coffee but it's black coffee. That tiny point is the tallest building here. There's 24 districts. We're staying at district 1 and that's kind of the main centre and that's where it's all really busy. This picture reminds me of the Hunger Games when I was at university. district 1 is like where all the business people are and some of the buildings and apartments are actually like 7 to 10 people living in like the smallest apartments and there's more of a chance to get a good job if they're staying in district 1 because they just live really, really close to each other. I'm told as recently as 2016 there was loads of heavy rain and a lot of the city flooded so they've actually built this dam here which kind of redirects the water into a canal. These are floating markets along here. A whole family was on these boats. Illegal. Oh really? Illegal. These families are illegal. And then they were staying here. They threw all the trash into the water. Six thousand four hundred families around this one, around the city. over 20,000 family still on the river like this so we suddenly took a tiny little narrow canal off the main river pulled up here and we're just being given the traditional Vietnamese hats now thank you thank you very much thank sweet I think that's meant to go around your neck obviously appropriate hats on we're gonna hop into some little rowing boats and go and explore where bigger boats can't go our guide keeps joking about crocodiles he's like you see a crocodile just grab it we'll have it for lunch if you see a crocodile to say hello don't actually know he's joking that he may not be I'm gonna go one by one for the balance of the boat you fall down that's not what I waiting for you but we have a different type of a sewer can soft and hard sewer can so we stopped off at a little farm now and there's 13 different provinces along the Mekong Delta and each one specializes in different things for farming so like fish rice fields like this one sugarcane like the one we just saw tropical fruits like mangoes telling us about the rice production that before they used to be better profit in it but because of machinery in the cost of fertilizer and things nowadays the profits actually down quite a lot but they used to them do one harvest per year and they'd have to carry a kilogram of rice each on their backs for two to three kilometers back to their homes and lay it all out to dry in the Sun it's all done by machinery nowadays you only get old people and children here in the countryside and that's because all the young people go into the city to study so just like in Cambodia it's the grandparents actually bringing up the children and then when the children get to certain age they go into the city to study or find it find a job so the people in them fields are actually burying people who have passed away it's actually illegal what they're doing we've just been told because you're meant to bury people in the public cemetery but that costs money to buy the land to do that so to save money they do it in their own kind of land and they're on their own farms Her name's Lisa She's one and a half years old One and a half years old 20 kilograms around Very lovely You see Anyone else? The snake was heavy and it was like sliding off me Thank you We've just stopped again at a local market We're going to go through now and explore They're offering it out I don't know what it is They're saying don't drink, you don't make friends No drink, no friends He's trying There's all these fish here that you can buy These are fish that look like snakes They do actually There's frogs here as well, much bigger fish in there She's cutting some up at the moment They're all just talking and laughing loads And Lucy goes, what are they saying? He goes, oh they're just saying that you look strange Monks look after orphans Thank you Just sat down for some lunch now Bringing out the spring rolls Something green Fresh prawns With garlic And seafood You're right there Must have been a chilli seed or something Stuck there Wow We've been treated to a bit of a feast here We've had pork, chicken, rice On the way, Latin language Difficult to say Vietnamese language A symbol Elephant ear fish Why does the chef look like an elephant ear? Fish Really nice No food, no home Please take one Thank you Bye Bottom up Go go go It's like a good wine Different flavour Alright We can sleep on the boat We look after all of you We've come to a place called the Glow Sky Bar And look at this So the menu is a lot more expensive here Than anywhere else we've seen Probably since we've been away But I suppose it's quite a posh place And you get the view with it But here's just an idea price-wise A beer is £5 And that is crazy Because that's how much it is at home in a posh place Pizzas and things are like £5-£6 It's all in a Vietnamese dong here So it looks like a lot But it's obviously quite a lot less So the waiter's done that thing Where he didn't write down our order And he's like yep yep I'll remember that Then he went to the next table and did the same thing So we're either going to be really really impressed That he would have remembered it Or he's going to forget it and mess it up But I'm pretty sure he's not It's a pretty simple order Wow the lighting is crazy Are we actually going to set the camera up To try and catch some of this lighting So you may have also noticed we're not fully on the roof That is because it is chucking it down with rain right now We're impressed though As soon as the taxi pulled in and the doors opened There was someone there with an umbrella like seeing us in And we got straight in The upstairs bit is actually Up those stairs so if it stops raining Hopefully we'll be able to actually go up there See the proper view but to be honest It's nice here and we thought it would be packed But there's hardly anyone here It's sober October guys Lucy and I have been drinking way too much So we've gone for a coke Wait we were drunk earlier Oh yeah we drank today Sorry about the gap in the vlog by the way guys We did our usual went back to the hotel And then just come back for dinner now How long ago does that feel? It was a pretty good tour though wasn't it Basically this place has got an amazing tour Yes I've said this already I've just explained My burger has arrived With three others You're in your heaven with your burgers And now I'm in my heaven with cheese Four cheese pizza Which is my absolute fave And I'm very excited We've also gone for some fries Come in a little cool basket with some sauce These were meant to be cheesy They've got some weird It looks like whatsit So it's got some cheese powder on it I wanted melted cheese and stuff But never mind We've just come to the top now It's raining a little bit but it's much better Just to have a quick look at the view It looks so nice up here Tomorrow we're actually going to a new place So we've got a bit of a Oh we're catching a flight tomorrow morning The first flight and then probably that'll be good We'll see you tomorrow Bye
