The Rolex Series returns to the DP World Tour as The Renaissance Club hosts the Genesis Scottish Open. This year is the fourth time this event has been co-sanctioned with the PGA TOUR as 75 players from both tours will compete. Robert MacIntyre returns to defend his title. While the top players in the world including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa will also be teeing it up in Scotland. Recent U.S. Open winner JJ Spaun is also in the field, meaning all four reigning Major champions will tee it up this week.
Looks perfect, he's a 7 iron as well.
He finished with three birdies yesterday.
Can it continue?
Oh, it certainly can.
What a golf shot.
What a golf shot that is my goodness me.
Stop it short of the hole.
Keep coming, keep coming.
Go. Go now.
That was a 7.
I think it went.
Excellent clap for Michael, right?
It's a wonderful day for under overall.
Rory flag on the right by the wall.
He's got another one.
What a start from Rory McIlroy.
Three birdies in the first five
holds McIlroy to five under.
With Victor Perez dropping his shot at 18,
McIlroy is within two of the lead now.
But right Jamie is looking a bit anxious.
Oh, nice bouncy, that was lovely.
When it's your day, it's your day.
How brilliant isn't it from Rory McIlroy?
What a start this has been.
He has got that to go four under
for his first six holes today.
Birdie par birdie par birdie.
Magnificent stuff from the Grand Slammer.
One go on, get over that hill and
then allows that with the windstone dead.
Tricky part.
Can you keep the momentum going?
Yes, he can. What the poor dog?
Good heavens, what a blistering
start from Rory McIlroy today.
Five birdies in his first seven
holes and McIlroy is in a share of the lead.
Third shot now into the opening
on the path or first I should say.
Where's too much spin?
Outside chance of his path.
He sizes it up behind.
Paints the picture in his mind
and then just tries to execute.
Rory McIlroy.
Wonderful forward look.
He loves the challenge.
Rory won't back off it, that's for sure.
It really has saved himself.
Quite a few turns over the last few holes,
so he stays at 7 under.
Very soft strike that looks straight.
Lifting the tux right?
He took a lot of that, so yeah.
He's played that extremely well.
Could easily have missed that slope on left.
First birdie of the homeward
knife of Rory McIlroy,
so he advances to 8 under.
Positioning himself very nicely.
Always looking a little anxious.
Yeah, we're about to find out
whether we can carry it or not.
Jamie, no, I don't think he would have done.
It's down the right.
That's fine.
One down the right one down the left.
Magnificent, that's perfect.
All that looks fantastic.
Honey was posing Jamie.
Straight at it.
So close to me so close.
That's a great part.
McIlroy stays 8 under par.
Three shots awfully with two holes of his
second round of the Genesis Scottish open to go.
No goodbye, excellent part was a long putt for birdie.
And it's around a 65 from Rory McIlroy.
He was 5 under through the first seven holes.
It's going to be a little bit better than that.
In the end, he had to battle hard for the score.
7 under heading into the weekend.
Four shots at the moment of the lead McIlroy in the mix.
Rory day to a 65 seemed like you got off to a really solid start
the opening nine, and then it became a little bit more difficult
in that second nine.
Give us your perspective.
Yeah, exactly right.
Yeah, I got off to a bit of a flyer.
The conditions were so benign this morning, hardly any wind.
And then the wind started to pick up a little bit on the on the back nine
for us, but still, you know, very, very manageable.
And yeah, I started to struggle a little bit, hit a couple of wayward drives,
but did well to scramble for pars.
Yeah, and then disappointing to drop on coming in there.
But overall, you know, it's a really good score and,
you know, puts me right into the thick of things going into the weekend.
You talk about the driver.
Sometimes you're seeing the other players maybe a little bit more held back off
the tee. They're hitting an iron.
You're getting the driver and maybe a little bit more aggressive.
You could perhaps give us some insight into your strategy off the tee
and what you are struggling with sometimes. Yeah.
Yeah. Like the first hole, which was our tenth, for example,
the two boys hit iron off the tee to stay short of that bunker on the
on the right.
I feel like if I had a good drive, I can get a pass there
and get a wedge in my hand, especially to a front pin.
So it really depends on the hole and where the pin is.
And, you know, if you feel like it's accessible with a mid iron,
then you can maybe lay back, but pin like the first today,
getting a wedge in your hand is is would be pretty nice.
But yeah, I you know, the rough isn't too bad.
So I feel like the more aggressive you can be.
And, you know, honestly, that, you know,
being aggressive off the tee on on Lynx golf courses
and taking the bunkers out of play,
if the rough isn't too bad, has always been a pretty good strategy for me.
So I'm sort of sticking with that for for the week.
And, you know, it's sometimes it gets you in trouble,
but but most of the time it works out pretty well.
You're in a great position heading into the weekend. Well done.
Thank you.
