In the heart of Ahmedabad, a vision came to life, blending cultures, generations and a deep sense of belonging. The NRI bungalow at Naranpura is a reflection of a family's return to their roots after years abroad, seeking comfort, connection and cultural grounding. Blending modern minimalism with timeless Indian values, this place was crafted to feel grounded yet global, honouring tradition while embracing innovation. This is one such dream crafted with heart and vision. The bungalow, aptly named Visamo, embodies the essence of relaxation and tranquillity, offering a serene sanctuary design to harmonise comfort, luxury and peace. It reflects a young couple's journey of returning to India after 15 years of successful IT career in the US, seeking to disconnect with their roots and instil culture values in their children. It symbolises a peaceful heaven where traditions and modern living beautifully coexist. Redefining the architectural excellence where every corner tells a story of innovation, luxury and timeless beauty. Welcome to the NRI bungalow at Naranpura, Ahmedabad. This south-facing bungalow, situated in one of Ahmedabad's most posh areas, is designed on a plot area of 7,330 square feet and construction area of 10,000 square feet redefines luxury living by seamlessly blending modern architectural elegance with nature-inspired elements. The plot is located in the corner of the society with 20 feet wide road. Also, there were adjacent bungalows on east and north facing, so the privacy too was to be considered while designing the bungalow. Thus, we planned the parking area and wash area with pergolas on these two sides, which maintains the privacy of the user. The south and west faces of the house were open, so we took an advantage of that by providing the open balconies and terrace gardens on that side, allowing the natural light and air to enter the bungalow, keeping the bungalow bright and airy throughout the day. The client envisioned a home that embraced openness and natural elements. The requirements included a spacious 5BHK layout with a triple-height courtyard and family sitting area, fostering an airy and calming atmosphere. They desired a home theatre for entertainment along with balconies attached to every bedroom to ensure a constant flow of fresh air and light. Additionally, the clients requested a dedicated mandir area for spiritual practices, a functional office space connected with common activities to cater to their professional needs, and a luxurious jacuzzi area for relaxation. The client wanted to embrace the energy of the sun in their new home, without the discomfort of harsh sunlight or rising temperatures. To achieve this, we designed a triple-height courtyard with a natural champa tree, ensuring a serene and sustainable living environment. The exterior of this bungalow is a stunning reflection of contemporary design fused with natural elements. The combination of grey rammed earth cladding and warm WPC wooden planks enhances the earthy aesthetic, while the smooth, neutral-coloured stone-crete textured walls provide a clean, modern contrast. Characterized by striking geometric forms, the layered façade with cantilevered balconies adds depth and sense of movement, while planters and landscaping softens the structure, merging it seamlessly with its surroundings. A sleek pergola and thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces, including a garden and sitting areas, provide opportunities for relaxation and gatherings. This design emphasizes functionality, sustainability and aesthetics, catering to the client's lifestyle while celebrating architectural creativity. The ground floor provides a seamless experience of living to the user, where modern spaces meet timeless elegance, featuring a triple-height courtyard with a skylight, a serene garden and functional zones like the office library and puja room, all designed for ultimate comfort and styling. The main door and safety door is designed in a full height, featuring a combination of rich veneer and fluted panels complemented by a vertical grille membrane, creating a soft contrast to the exterior cladding material and giving a grander feel to the user while entering. The combination of fluted panels with cement texture and black metal stripes adds a raw look to the bungalow. The semicircular mirror makes the user feel the hugeness of the space. The provision of a sleet above this area lets the sunlight penetrate and keeps the space naturally bright. The drawing room exudes warmth and elegance, featuring a luxurious tan brown sofa paired with a sleek corner table that anchors the space beautifully. The TV unit features a graceful curved design accentuated by a cementitious texture and wooden fluted panels that adds a modern earthy appeal, seamlessly blending aesthetics with functionality. The cement textured ceiling with thick wood stripes here matches with the overall interior of the space. This area is seamlessly connected with the central courtyard, creating a harmonious flow of space and offering a spectacular view of the sky lit feature. The triple height courtyard is strategically placed at the center of the bungalow, with activities thoughtfully oriented around it to honor and embrace Indian traditions. This provision of telescopic sliding glass doors maintains an open feel and provides flexibility to create distinct spaces when needed. This courtyard with a skylight serves as the heart of the bungalow, with the brick lading wall seamlessly connecting all the floors while filling the space with natural light and airy ambience. A saran champa tree with a beautiful water body and a charming double-sided wooden swing is placed here, creating a tranquil space that connects the user with nature. The west-facing family sitting area offers a serene ambience with a triple-height glass opening that captures the evening sunlight, creating a mesmerizing play of light and shadows. Perfect for quality family time or hosting guests, this space is seamlessly connected to all the floors, ensuring everyone stays connected and engaged. The L-shaped Italian leather sofa is set in front of the striking background of straighted textured MCM cladding, enhanced by an elegant metallic tree mural adding refinement and warmth to the area. The strategic placement of dining and kitchen besides the courtyard keeps the space bright and airy throughout the day as well as connected with the nature and family events. The exotic Italian marble dining combined with coffee brown leather chairs and railroad fluted panels in crisscross pattern in the ceiling creates a rustic charm in the dining area. The bungalow features two thoughtfully designed kitchens, a dedicated one for the maid or chef for extensive cooking and a dry kitchen for smaller quick preparations. This modular kitchen in the rear of the bungalow sounds like a slick and functional design with the marble printed quartz countertop and light gray cabinet shutters adding a sophisticated touch. The addition of a breakfast table with fluted panels in the base sounds like a stylish and modern touch complementing the overall design of the kitchen. The puja room in northeast corner designed with elegance and devotion serves as a serene sanctuary for spiritual practices seamlessly opening up to a semi-covered terrace garden that blends spirituality with nature. The partition wall is designed by the combination of hanging bells and wallpapers which gels with the overall interior theme of this space. The office cum library area is thoughtfully designed with a separate entry near the main door fostering an environment that enhances learning focus and productivity while maintaining privacy from the bungalow's interior. It is visually connected to the dining kitchen and family sitting areas adding a sense of openness for the user. The circular fluted table with cement texture in the backdrop and fluted console shutters complements the space in a unique way. The parents bedroom in the southwest corner embodies a minimal yet elegant design featuring a dark grey fluted bed headboard that pairs seamlessly with the backdrop adorned with decorative clay and fluted veneer creating a calming and classy ambience. A dark grey sofa has been added enhancing the minimal aesthetic. This room is connected to an outdoor garden sitting with pergola above creating an interesting play of light and shadow throughout the day. The italian marble is laid in the entire bungalow adding a touch of luxury. The staircase and lift are strategically oriented on the west side of the bungalow optimizing space and ensuring smooth vertical circulation within the design. Leading towards the first floor it houses three bedrooms, a lounge area with grey sofa and slick black center table creates a cozy space on this floor. Railroad fluted panels in the ceiling creates a warmth in the space. The glass bridge a striking highlight of the bungalow not only serves as a seamless transition towards the bedrooms but also overlooks the family sitting area and courtyard below offering a captivating visual experience and enhancing the sense of openness throughout the home. The large size east-facing master bedroom is uniquely designed by using combination of decorative clay and curvilinear vertical paneling in the backdrop of the bed with a tufted fabric headboard. It features a cozy sitting area with beige revolving chair and dark grey sofa. This bedroom is thoughtfully connected to the courtyard creating a harmonious flow between indoor comfort and outdoor tranquility. The walk-in closet design here is decorated with the reflective tinted glass shutters creating an illusion of infinity in the space. The bathroom is contrasted by using the combination of dark colored marble printed tiles and fluted tiles. The garden balcony attached to this bedroom creates a connection with nature to become an integral part of the room's atmosphere. This is also connected with the son's bedroom and terrace garden on second floor as well as the main entrance below. The son's bedroom is designed with a sophisticated leather finish laminate backdrop adding texture and depth to the space. The bed is accentuated with a bold splash of rustic orange creating a dynamic focal point that enhances the room's energy and vibrancy. It is complemented by a garden balcony providing a peaceful outdoor retreat that enhances the room's connection to the nature. The daughter's bedroom is a peaceful retreat designed with a soothing colors that creates a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The bed backdrop is soothing combination of veneer and marble printed PVC fluted panels which is contrasted with grey bed. Soft hues are complemented by natural light enhancing the tranquil vibe. A private balcony offers a personal outdoor escape. Wooden textured tiles in herringbone pattern on the floor and walls highlights the bathroom uniquely. A provision of u-shaped mirror makes the user feel hugeness in the space. The second floor house is a guest bedroom, home theater, jacuzzi, an open terrace connected with the courtyard on the ground floor. The guest bedroom is designed with a minimal aesthetic featuring vertical fluted paneling that adds texture and elegance creating a welcoming atmosphere. The home theater doubling as a children's play area is designed with muted colors to create a soothing and inviting environment. This space is thoughtfully laid out with curvilinear sofas offering both comfort and relaxation for family movie nights or playtime. A beautifully designed jacuzzi has been created offering a spa-like ambience. It effortlessly combines simplicity with luxury resulting in a space that is both practical and visually captivating. A slick TV unit has incorporated here allows the user to enjoy the favorite shows while relaxing in the bath adding a touch of luxury and entertainment to the experience. The open terrace garden offers a peaceful outdoor retreat where lush greenery and fresh air creates a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. It's an ideal spot to unwind enjoy a morning coffee with the surrounding plants adding a touch of nature's tranquility. We feel truly satisfied to have designed Visamo turning the client's dream into reality reflecting their vision of a home that embraces both their cultural roots and the lifestyle they desire after returning to India.
