Hi, my name is Eric Mueller. I want to welcome you to the Aerie. I got to live on this land for 33 years.
It's time for someone else to enjoy what I got to enjoy, but I want to show you a few
special secrets about this place. So come on, I'm going to show you a few things.
I saw these posts carved in Czechoslovakia. They reminded me of a very Asian theme, and so I
figured out how they did it. So this porch is a combination of Czechoslovakian and a Tibetan
rafter tail rain gutter, along with the dragon flutes that suspend the points of the house.
Come on in. Let me show you some other things here. This door came from Afghanistan and was
brought out of Afghanistan before the war Afghanistan had with Russia. So we've had this
one for quite a while. Come on in. Here in this entry is a hand-painted ceiling. It's about 300
years old. Brought this one back from Morocco too, from the souk, from the spice market in Marrakesh.
Had to break it down in little pieces and reassemble it here. Not a big deal, but we
carefully wrapped everything and reinstalled it here in the house. This ceiling is pretty fun.
It was fun for me, and this was one long winter. I think it was my second winter here.
Probably didn't have TV cable yet, and I just spent every evening after my workday painting
the ceiling. This is done in the Berber style of the Atlas Mountains of Morocco,
though the symbology in it is, I've grabbed it from everywhere, from my personal experience and from
philosophical, religious, and mystical themes around the world. I want to introduce you to
Our Lady of Pioneertown, right here. Our Lady of Pioneertown is striking the Joshua Tree,
and water is coming forth to water the desert. I invented this technique here in the dining room
for getting maximum amount of visual and textural energy for a minimal amount of
materials and a minimal amount of labor. This texture on the walls was inspired by the Alhambra
in Spain, built by the Moors, and the place is finally carved. It's completely textured all over.
These walls are all concrete stamped and grouted with a texture that replicates
Moroccan tile. After the great fire of 2006 that swept through Pioneertown
and swept through this property, I planted all these orchards that are fully irrigated.
We have apple trees, pear trees, peaches, plums, apricots, grapes, cherries. Also in this area,
we have the solar trackers that we installed, which we supply all the electrical needs of
the home, and those trackers get 40 percent more efficiency out of the solar panels because of
their ability to track with the sun at right angles to the sun. This is the best, one of the
best hours of the day as the sun's going down, and so I thank you for letting me show you this
house and this property. It's been a great life here, and you can't help but feel like you really
won the big lottery in this golden light. There is really an El Dorado aspect to this property
as the sun sets on the red rocks.
