Welcome back to our channel.
I'm Laura, German native speaker and German teacher.
Let's practice together today
to improve your pronunciation
and to train your fluent speaking.
With the imitation or shadowing technique.
What is it exactly and how does it work?
I'll show you now.
The shadowing or imitation technique
is really a miracle weapon
that helps you to improve your pronunciation,
to reduce the accent
and to speak fluent German.
Ideally without thinking for a long time.
If you have seen our video
in which I give you tips
how you can think faster in German
without translating everything into your native language
then you already know what I'm talking about.
Or you might even take a course with us
on our Deutsch Campus.
Because we also work with this technique there.
Then you are already a professional.
So how exactly does it work?
In principle, it's about imitating a speaker.
So to imitate exactly what another person says.
But it's not just about repeating the words,
but to pay attention to the pronunciation,
the emotions, the rhythm, the pauses
and the intonation.
And this imitation should sound as real as possible.
So ideally also at the same speed as the original.
And with that you not only improve your pronunciation,
you also increase your listening comprehension.
You learn to speak more fluently.
And you will have less problems in the long run
to follow fast conversations of native speakers.
We are now practicing this together in four steps.
I will explain to you step by step
what you should do exactly.
First you listen to a text.
Today it will be about a call at customer service
where a customer complains about a defective TV.
We listen to the dialogue for the first time together.
Turn off the subtitles if you have activated them
and really focus only on the conversation.
It's absolutely okay if you don't understand every word.
Good day, my name is Anna Weigert.
What can I do for you?
Yes, good day, Müller here.
I ordered a TV from you two weeks ago,
but unfortunately the device doesn't work properly.
The image quality is simply catastrophic.
And the sound is constantly distorted,
although all cables are properly connected.
I have already tried to reach the customer service by e-mail,
but so far I have unfortunately received no answer.
I would like the problem to be fixed quickly
or the device to be replaced.
I don't want to pay for such a defective product.
I am very sorry that you have such problems with the device.
Let us clarify this quickly.
I will immediately forward the case to our technical team.
Please first tell me your name,
the title and the name of the device.
In the second passage you will hear the conversation again,
but with subtitles so that you can read along.
Now you can also concentrate on the vocabulary
and check if you understand everything.
You can repeat this step as often as you want.
Good day, my name is Anna Weigert.

Yes, good day, Müller here.

but unfortunately the device does not work properly.

or the device replaced.
I don't want to pay for such a faulty product.
I am very sorry that you have such problems with the device.
Let us clarify this quickly.
I will immediately forward the case to our technical team.
Please first tell me your name,
the title and the name of the device.
Now we come to the third step,
in which you can become really active.
You now hear every sentence individually and repeat it.
Make sure not only to repeat the words.
Pay attention to which places are pauses,
how the intonation and the language rhythm are.
At the beginning you can like to speak in your own tempo.
Repeat this step so often
until you can speak along in the original tempo.
Take your time here too.
It is absolutely okay if you have to repeat this step 3, 4 or 5 times.
Good day, my name is Anna Weigert.
What can I do for you?
Yes, good day, Müller here.
I ordered a TV from you two weeks ago,
but unfortunately the device does not work properly.
The image quality is simply catastrophic
and the sound is constantly distorted,
although all cables are properly connected.

but so far I have unfortunately received no answer.
I want the problem to be fixed quickly
or the device to be replaced.
I don't want to pay for such a faulty product.
Now we come to the last step.
You now hear the entire dialogue again in the original speed
and your task is now to speak along in the original speed.
So ideally speak exactly in the same tempo as me in this case.
If this step is still too difficult for you, no problem,
just go back to step 3.
Good day, my name is Anna Weigert.
What can I do for you?
I am very sorry that you have such problems with the device.
Please let us clarify quickly.
I will immediately forward the case to our technical team.
Please first tell me your name,
how did it go, did everything work well?
Let me know if you liked this exercise.
Feel free to stop by our German courses.
We also work with this technology there.
And as you can see, it is very popular with our students.
It's fun and you really notice progress quickly.
The goal is that you make German your earworm with it.
That you have certain sentences and expressions so firmly anchored in your head
that you can pronounce them at some point without having to think for a long time.
You can also find some videos on our YouTube channel with this technique.
I will link them to you below the video.
Maybe we'll see each other again in one of these videos.
Take care!
