Cultural Significance of Ecosystem Services in Traditional Festivals Performance in Rural Northern Ghana

Layman Abstract :
This study explores how people in Northern Ghana, especially along the White Volta River, depend on nature for cultural and spiritual activities. These benefits, called cultural ecosystem services, include things like traditional festivals, religious rituals, and passing on cultural knowledge. Though hard to measure, they are very important for rural life and well-being. The research found that local customs and leaders help manage these natural resources wisely. Festivals in the region often involve prayers, rituals at sacred sites, and help strengthen community bonds. Yet, these cultural values are often ignored in policies and planning. Recognizing and protecting these services is key to preserving both nature and culture.
