This is day one. Thank you. Best mom ever. This is Tianfu. Hi, I'm Eliza Schlesinger. I'm a touring comedian. And years ago I decided I wanted a companion on the road, so my dog Blanche became my stalwart companion. Ever intrepid, she was there for me for eight or nine years on the road. Alright, time to go, Blanche. You're already in your bed? Ladies, it's time for a workout. And we reach, and reach, and we extend, extend. She was like my life partner. And then she passed away sadly. My heart was so broken. I didn't want to just get a new dog and not heal and put a bandaid over it. I just was like, the universe will send me a dog. And I was home, and I was making candy, and I ran out of sugar. We have a tiny store close by. And there was this woman there with some dogs. She was like, they're rescued. And this one was in the back, and she looked so scared. And the saddest part was, the lady told me, that when they found her she hadn't had any food or water. And I said, I want to hold that one. Because it's always like the scared ones that need the love. And I picked her up, and I just started crying. And I was like, I'll take this dog, she needs me. I got her off the back of a meat truck in China. Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like you to meet Tianfu, my rescue dog. Say hi. Say hi, my name is Tianfu. When I first rescued her, she was trepidatious, she was nervous. She did not trust anyone. She was terrified of my husband. He would come in the room, and she would growl, and she would hide. Noah's putting a trash bag in the garbage. She doesn't like it when we whip out trash. You're okay. There's nothing there. Hey, take it easy. And then over the months, she just started getting more and more comfortable with him. You are sitting like a baby. Two bellies. Just as beautiful. And now when she sees him, she only thinks it's playtime. Hello. She loves being the sheriff of the backyard. No. She loves fighting with our next door neighbor dog, who she's never met, but barks at ferociously through the fence. They're gone. Come here. But she does not really know any tricks. Doesn't really come when you ask her to. Tianfu! I'm not even sure she always knows her name. Are you Tianfu? It's really rewarding taking in a rescue dog and watching them explore the world and get comfortable. The one thing we can all learn from dogs is to love them when you're with them. Love comes in all forms. What you're falling in love with is their soul. And that's the part that matters. You holding my pen for me? Won't we do crossword? And look at that. Two inches.
