Robotic arms have become essential in today's industrial landscape,
speeding up production, reducing human error, and improving consistency.
With integrated vision systems, they can locate, identify, and adapt to dynamic environments
across countless applications. But in fast-paced production, even the smallest delay can be costly.
Focusing, something seemingly simple, has become a major bottleneck. Traditional systems either
move the arm repeatedly or rely on slow mechanical lenses, leading to longer cycle times, increased
wear, and reduced efficiency. This is where OptoTune's tunable liquid lens makes a real difference.
OptoTune's tunable liquid lens consists of a sealed container filled with optical fluid,
topped by a flexible polymer membrane. A tuning ring above the lens is precisely
controlled by an electromagnet, adjusting the membrane's shape in real time.
This allows the system to instantly refocus at different depths without any mechanical movement.
Together with Techmin, we co-developed a live demonstration to showcase this solution.
A task designed to reflect the real-world challenges of modern production lines,
the goal is to inspect five points at varying heights and angles.
Since the actual motion is too fast to observe,
the following footage has been slowed down to 0.1 speed for better visibility.
As the robot follows a smooth, uninterrupted path, each inspection point is brought into the
camera's field of view. Without stopping, and without the need for mechanical repositioning,
the liquid lens handles the focus, near or far, high or low, capturing sharp,
high-contrast images at varying depths within milliseconds. This seamless coordination between
OptoTune's optics and Techmin's robotics reduces inspection cycle time while maintaining high
precision. Fewer movements, sharper images, greater throughput. That's how we redefine
efficiency for smart manufacturing. Powered by OptoTune, brought to life with Techmin.
